Is this some e-mail scam?

Every few weeks I get a "chatty" e-mail like this from Harry. I don't know Harry, don't know Shirley and certainly have no idea why I need a coat for Fenton. Is this some sort of scam or phishing? Needless to say, I don't reply.

Hi Paula;

Shirley mailed you a coat for Fenton - no special reason except that she thought it might fit. If not, just give it away to a charity or whoever might use it.

How is everyone?

Did you google them???? Just saying?

who is Fenton? Your horse? and how would they know a personal name from your history....? That really seems odd. Do they have a lot of personal information about you? I would actually consider contacting the police, if you don't know them and hey have personal information about you and yours, I would be very suspect of them.... Also, did you or have your received the coat???? if so, do they have your address???? I would be very concerned. I was recently the victim of ID theft and now I suspect everyone, period....

Paula, that is just weird.
Paula, it could be a mistake, or who knows what. Just don't reply. If it is a mistake, Shirley will eventually call whomever she sent the coat to, to find out if it arrived, and they will all have good laugh at it.

If its who knows what....if you don't reply, they will stop.
I would also say don't click on an dopen the messages - if it is spam or phishing or whatever that can send a signal back that the address is live and more crap can come your way.
I have received e-mails from "Harry" in the past. Nothing personal, just stuff like "I saw Jonas today (I just made that name up). I'm guessing they know my first name because my e-mail is my first and last names.

It's very bizarre. I know nobody named Harry, Shirley or Fenton. I have received no packages, no strange phone calls. I think it must be some weird scam or them trying to get info from me.

I usually don't open e-mails if I don't recognize the sender's e-mail. Now I won't ever open unknown e-mails!
I occassionally receive emails from people that are clearly meant for someone else. I replied to the latest one because I thought it could otherwise lead to a misunderstanding. Here was the message:

"hello my love,
weather has turned a bit on the cold side time to break out the winter wear. Thank God I can put off another season of not working out. Any Ideas for hagathas birthday? miss you love m"

He was really glad I emailed him. He had gotten his GF's email wrong. She had the same name as me.
I just looked on anywho.com and H.W. Petersen does live at 5214 120th Ave. as he put in his e-mail. So now I wonder if, as Val said, he's got my e-mail mixed up with someone else. But I'm not going to reply just in case it is a phish or a scam.
Yea...I'm telling you, if they don't get a call about Fenton's coat, they will call to find out why...and find out the email when astray.
That was my first thought-that they are legitimate people who have the wrong address by mistake. I wouldn't reply or anything, but I wouldn't be too worried. If it was phishing, don't you think there'd be something to answer about?
