Back to Agility

Tonite I'm going with the dogs to a "new" agility class. The class is run by "Take The Lead" and I've been in contact with the person that runs the class. My concerns were that I'm not sure where Simon would fit in and that Gar has been to beginners class but was he ready for intermediate class.

They are combining the Tuesday class because there are only three dogs, one thats a beginner, one thats intermediate and one that needs work. Well heck, that works great for me. One, Tuesdays work well with my work schedule and two, I can work the boys in where ever they fit. The bad is that they would both be in the same class and they tend to feed off each other so that will be a challenge.

Wish me luck...I see lots of good treats in my future.

Oh yeah, Randy will work Gar...I can't handle both dogs at the same time.

Have fun. Harry loves going to agility class and is always happy when it starts up again.
Oh my gosh...I'm soooooo impressed. Tonite's class only had 2 other dogs in it because of illness so we were able to spend more one on one time and this trainer is sooo knowledgeable and patient and smart. We, Randy, Gar, Simon and I learned so much.

At the last class the trainer told me that Simon and I were out of practice. End of conversation. No giving "hints" of what I was doing wrong and how to correct it. Just doing jumps in different formations. In this class we did do jumps and weaves and tunnel. She brought the weaves out so the dog ran down the middle and this teaches them so much better.

I'm so glad I did this!!!!

We too switched trainers after a year and it was the best thing I ever did. She explains everything and is open minded to each individual dog. I totally love her.

That is the channel weave method. Harry was trained on the weaves with gates and wires at the first place and they left them on too long for the other dogs so he was in a weave rut. He could not figure out the entrance at all. But then I was introduced to the channel weaves and I would never go back. I am using it to train other dogs the weaves when I do workshops.

We are on our third set of weave poles. The first set (totally PVC with wires) is not a channel. The second set I invested in is a channel but the base uses bolts for the pegs and the wild beast was too hard on them. I was constantly having to replace the bolts because he bent them. It would work fine for a less intense dog. So I just ordered a more sturdy set of channel weaves - unfortunately I could only afford six. I am going to start squirreling away some extra money so I can buy six more for a complete set of twelve.

In the meantime I will be cleaning up my two old sets and list them for sale in my area.
