Hello I have two Oes and one of the dogs head coat (white head) behind ears is a dark pink brownish color and it seem the rest of his head is turning a light pink.
The pink is faint but as each day goes by its seems to be spreading and getting alittle darker.
Any help would be great seeing vet on fri.
Could it be yeast coming from in the ear and kind of seeping outward? That can turn the ear hair colors.
Feeding a Tums tablet daily can help with that.

Chewie prefers the quick disolving smoothies - in assorted fruit flavors! Cool

What is it from??
Paddy did this on top of his head.....just one streak and
it faded on its own.
I thought maybe one of the other dogs mashed a berry
on his head. Laughing

The streak may have been something external.
The stuff by the ears, eys and mouth seem to really be helped by the Tums. A vet (and OES breeder) recommended it to me and I have seen a big difference in Chewie (he wasn't bad, but it still made a difference).
It really helps LeAnne's Clay. When she stopped for awhile, it came back. Now he is back on the Tums again.

I'm not sure how it actually helps (?maybe by changing the pH?), but it is easy and simple.

It has something to do with cutting the acid in their system. I have done this with my show dogs & it helps to keep the beard a bit whiter. I've never had a really bad problem in that area but anything that is safe & helps keep that area whiter is fine.
I'll have to try this for Rosco, he has a faint pink tinge.
That's very interesting. I am always learning something new around here. Smile
How long before you see any results? I'm been giving Rosco a tums each day but nothing yet Sad
It takes awhile - the new hair that grows out will be whiter. It won't remove the stain on the current hair, just prevents it from happening.
If you do some serious washing, you can lighten it though. At least it won't be getting as stained.

When Chewie's was growing out, it reminded me of hair roots growing out after being dyed!
I was so happy to see the new, white, unstained hair growing. Very Happy

How many are you giving him? I gave my adult dogs 3 reg. strength in the AM & 3 reg. strength in the evening. If you aren't comfiortable with that number you could cut it back to 2 in the AM & 2 in the PM. It should help pevent the discoloration on new hair growth.

Really?? We only do one tab daily. They are the extra strength - 750mg ones. It even worked on Clay - he gets the worst without it.
Remember, I was using reg. strength & this was 10 years ago. So I am sure the tabs are stronger now & you can use fewer.
I don't know how strong the regular are - maybe 500 mg?

I remember standing at the store in front of the shelf - who ever thought there were that many Tums choices?!
I like the smoothies fruit, so that's what I bought. We all share! Very Happy
Will this work for pups? Jasper came to us with a stained beard and he is a really sloppy drinker. So we are loosing the battle on a clean face.

I gave up and shaved Morgan's hair and cut out the stains on Marley's eyes (this was before she got the buzz cut look too). my point is one reason I got the clippers out was I had NO idea there were so many choices!!!! I have never used these for myself so I couldn't even default to Dawn's favorite method
