HELP!! Minnesota OES Girl to be PTS. URGENT!!!

Hello,

This is the same girl I posted about the other day.
After talking to the woman repeatedly and emailing, it was all arranged and they were going to ship her to me tomorrow or Sunday.

Now I just spoke with her and she said they weren't sure if the dog would bite me when getting picked up from the airport (stress of flight, yadda yadda).

Seriously, she just told me they decided to put her to sleep instead!

I was just calling to get info on the kennel size so I could call the airline and pay for the shipping (uggggh!!!).

her name is Bobby, she's been very very nice.
I thought this was my new baby, and now I'm tolds it's going to die instead. I was going to get the feather dog bed out of storage,
looking up how to go about beginning to show (I've always wanted to, she's AKC reg, intact, gorgeous!)

She's in Moorehead, Minnesota, apparently middle of nowhere.
they're going into Minneapolis tomorrow or the day after.

PLEASE HELP.

At this point, its a lot less about me having the dog, than about the dog being alive.

F!!!!!!

Her number is 1. 218. 236. 5711

URGENT: PTS is imminent.

Maybe they aren't being truthful with you and she has bitten before. You need to let the local rescue have her info so that they can talk to her.
OK, deep breath.

Consider this. The person was trying to place the dog, the person was willing to ship the dog, and suddenly she expresses concern that the dog will bite.

As hard as this is to phathom right now, not knowing the situation, she may be doing the right thing. Not all dogs can be saved. Many rescues will not place known biters. We won't. We're upfront about that.

Maybe the bitch is just very fearful and they are concerned flying and so on will tip her over the edge into bite territory. Have you told the woman about rescue? IF MN rescue is willing and able to take the dog once they know her full history and IF the woman is willing to surrender to them, that is probably the girl's best shot.

It sounds to me like the person is trying to do the right thing vis-a-vis you, at least: she's not having you pay to ship a potentially serious problem to you.

We won't talk about a breeder who sends an intact bitch off with registration papers to persons unknown (as far as she knows)

Just because a dog has ovaries and AKC papers does not make it a show prospect. If that's what you want, you have any number of excellent breeders out your way whom you can talk to.

As for saving her life, I think only rescue can do that at this point.

Do you have Nancy's contact info and did you/could you give it to the woman?

I may be able to get in touch with Dawn to see if she'd be able to help somehow if Nancy wants/needs help.

I'm at work.
Very very rattled and I don't have time to sort out why my password doesn't work right now.

Point: CAN"T get to my private messages.
I'm sorry. You must be so disappointed.

Something seems very hinky about this. I don't understand why this would only come up when you called her. Not to mention, you wouldn't put a dog down because it might bite-- no decent person, let alone decent breeder, would do that. It sounds like this dog either has major problems or has bitten before.

It sounds like this person is leaving out some important details or is one of those crackpots like the one in SC who leads people on with dogs and then decides not give them up.
All good things to consider.
For my mental health, I am taking this under advisement,
and rewording what I tell myself internally.
My mind thanks you.

As far as being a show prospect; granted, I get that she may not be.
But if i were to have the opportunity to get a dog that were at all a show prospect, and if I were to want to spend 10 hours (give or take 5-10 more) per week brushing it, and enter, pay fees, drive to shows, and so forth, knowing that it might not be a show quality dog,
well,
I guess that would mean that I've always really wanted to.
And if it didn't do so brilliantly, well, that's all there is to it.
Maybe it's about living life in a way that is all eagerness and love and honest effort. I don't thi9nk I'd actually enjoy any of the other junk that goes with having an intact dog (fights, bringing out the were-dog in every male dog you encounter, etc.).
As per getting one from a great breeder:
I would looove to.
The fact is that 1500 and then some is not an amount I can spend.
And I don't make a habit of creating limitations for myself;
sometimes amazing things happen, out of the blue, because it is meant to be.
Might I add, this doesn't preclude me from being an amazing dog owner; buying the >>best dog food,
and socializing and training your pup so it's welcome everywhere,
and always having a well-kept, clean, healthy pup
are things that don't actually cost a lot.

I guess i felt the need to justify myself.

And the woman had told me the pup had never bitten anyone.
And I do remember the post about the SC woman who offered the dog, etc.
and then how it ended as a wild goose chase and a sad ending.

I hope y'all are right.
Besides, I've done enough crying today.

I am so sad to hear this...I know how much you were looking forward to a new sheepie love. I just don't understand why someone would do something like that. I sent you a pm about a young male in Utah.

I just feel so bad for you and the sheepie you tried to give your love to.
In my experience, intact dogs (and bitches) if anything are a lot easier to live with then ones that were s/n as adolescents/babies. Don't ask me why this is. And where you got your OES (breeder) and how the dog was raised has a lot more to do with ease of living with than gonad status.

I have 11 of them at the house right now ranging in age from a 10 mos rescue to my 11 year old Perfect Dog, all OES,:three spayed bitches, two neutered males, one intact male and remaining all intact bitches. The spayed foster child can be a bit of an itch at times, but the rest, from an assortment of decent breeders, are all a piece of cake (5 mine, one a permanent visitor I "stole" from her breeder so I can do "stuff" with her, four that I'm babysitting for my vet). All slept loose in my bedroom last night including foster brat. No squabbling. They're just good dogs, period. That's just my experience. (And, OK, it DID look kind of funny as I glanced around before I turned out the light  )

Honestly, if you seriously think you may want to show, then you may want to talk to some of the show breeders out your way. Show homes are at a premium and you may be surprised what kind of arrangement you could be able to come up with. Some breeders place their young adults for a variety of reasons if you don't want to show and don't want to deal with puppyhood. I have yet to purchase a dog, let's put it that way.

Mind you, you have to be able to get along with whomever the breeder might be really well, and it takes time to establish that kind of relationship.

Then there's always rescue, of course.

I'm so sorry about Sara. Both for her and for the emotional roller coaster you've been on.

Your OES is out there.

Kristine
Thanks Mad Dog.

I appreciate your reply.

Several things: you are very rich in sheepdogs! very kingly.
How do you get to the bathroom at night? IME sheepdogs make lumpy carpeting

The thing about unaltered sheepies; I had no idea.
I just remember Vlad being a supreme jackwad when he became a man.

You might recall what I said about imposing limitations on oneself and how i don't. Ahem. 8O
I was pleasantly shocked to read what you said about show homes and arrangements. For me, that is obviously such a fantasy that I had never even considered that it might be a plausible reality. Thank you for telling me. I would have never even imagined. Of course, if you can't conceive of something, it's quite more difficult to make it happen.

As per Sara; I just keep telling myself that it's a hoax, is all.
I was getting my dog brushes back out, wondering when her flight would be.

Ironically, I was asking someone the other day how I could alter her name so that it would sound similar, but start with a Q, V, Y, X or V (personal quirk).
The answer: Que sera (what will be en francais).

So, on that note: Que sera, sera.
Whatever will be, will be. The future's not ours to see.

Ommmmmmmmmmmmm
(trying not to grind my teeth)
Ommmmmmmmmmmmm
I am sorry that you have had to go through all of this.

Que sera sera is Spanish, not French.
I am so sorry.
Sorry to hear about Sara.

By the way, both Spanish and French come from Latin.
I don't speak Spanish, so I'll take your word for it being Spanish.

Nevertheless, que sera sera is (in fact) French (in addition to being Spanish, I guess).
Thanks? For correcting me on that...
By golly!

In Spanish: que será será
In French: que sera sera

LOL I wonder which it was in the movie! LOL
Do you mean >Heathers<?

The movie was "The Man Who Knew Too Much", an Alfred Hitchcock classic. Doris Day sang the song. The movie takes place in Morocco, so it could be French or Spanish - they speak both there.
There has been some minor controversy about the reputed language in the song's title and lyrics. The phrase was lyricist Jay Livingston's own variation[4][5] on "Che sera sera," a fictional motto which he had seen in the 1954 film The Barefoot Contessa.

Que será literally means "what will be", and part of the lyric indeed says "what will be" rather than "whatever will be". Authentic renderings of the phrase "whatever will be" in romance languages include:

French
ce qui sera
Italian
quello che sarà
Portuguese
o que será
Spanish
lo que será
Catalan
el que serà

Per Wikipedia.
I always assumed it was French.
