Masked Intruders Broke Into My House!

It was 1 am and I heard noises from the downstairs rec room and even tho I was upstairs, I heard Daisy emitting a low growl. Daisy, my 8 year old kitty is pretty imobile these days as she either suffered a stroke or some neurological problem is affecting her back end. She doesn't walk without a wild swaying of her tail and backend resembling a "cat walk model." Test have proved inconclusive so far as to what is the cause of her swaying walk.

Back to the story.....

I saw the intruders..two masked bandits..happily partaking in a meal of cat food and other goodies. What a mess!! You've probably guessed by now that the intruders were not in the human form but Racoons. One immediately ran out the now damaged cat door. The other was trapped between Daisy and myself. In fact, it even jumped right beside her on the couch. I was praying , Please don't move Daisy as her mad twitching could cause the racoon to attack her. I backed away and that intruder also ran out.

I survey the now gaping hole in my door where the cat door used to be and decided to sleep on the couch as I anticipated they would return. I couldn't block the entire door as three of my cats in panic had run out the door and still hadn't returned. I didn't want to leave them out all night.

3 am......I hear bangs and clangs. I jumped up immediately and was halfway down the stairs when I see the racoons decided to invite friends and family to the feast. OMG!!! 1...2....3.....4...possibly more!!!

The biggest one started hissing and snarling at me when I made loud noises in hopes they would run out the way they came. Nope they scattered and it wasn't until 5 am that I was able to get them all out of my house.

What was Merlin and Panda doing you might be thinking? Well originally Panda also emitted that low growl informing me of intruders. However both dogs didn't even bark as if they knew these things were dangerous!
Fortunately I had the baby gate up and the dogs didn't go downstairs.

I'm still at my former place and currently spending time between two homes until all the animals are acclimated to the other place. Grumble why couldn't these racoons visit when I had all the pets moved over to the other place...grumble , grumble.

Sorry you're going through this, Glad you and the dogs are OK!

For the first time since I moved to this house in 1992, I saw a raccoon in my backyard about 5 or 6 days ago. At first I thought the neighbor's cat was ill by the way it was moving, but then I realized it was a raccoon. I clapped my hands and it took off running.... bunny hopping sort of.
How Rude!

Not only were they univited guests in the first place but they then have the cheek to return with friends!

They probably went back and said"we've found the best restaurant in town you gotta try it"

Glad you are all ok.

Hope the move goes well!!
I hope they didn't do too much damage. :(
My friend Mary had some visit her deck last year and she foolishly fed them.......

Maggie the coonhound would have been going crazy if that happened at our house!!
When I lived in Michigan, I worked for an Oil company and one night, at one of our gas stations a racoon found his way in. Well when the Manager arrived the next morning, the Racoon shot out the door, but had left the whole interior torn apart. It is amazing how much damage one little rodent can do.

Marianne, I am glad you where able to get the Family out of your house.
Oh my goodness gracious! What an experience! I've never had coons come up to the house. They eat behind the house in the woods, but they've never tried to come up to the house (that I know of anyway  ).

I do remember one year my cousin had a female give birth and raise her litter on her screened-in back porch. My cousin had several cats, too. Wonder if that's a natural attraction? :lmt:
OMG Marianne!! I cannot believe it jumped up on the couch. Brave one! 8O
Then he had the nerve to come back with his friends and trash the place some more.
Sorry that happened. :(
Did your cats come back?
