Rewiring the brain

It sounds like the stuff of science fiction. Lots of recent newstories in mags and on the news. Does it work?

Well I've become a believer as I started my new Inner City Secondary School position in Sept. One of the duties included being sent to workshops to learn about Fast For Word - a computer program that is based on years of research by Neuron Scientist at Rutgers University. It's called Fast For Word. My job at the school was to start 8 teens on the program and in less than 28 days many have increased their reading/comprehension level by over one year.

Our school district believes in it so much they spent 200,000 setting up the program. It's had amazing effects on kids with Autism, kids with Learning Disabilities , or anyone else that wanted to try it. Schools all over the world are starting to use the program and have seen amazing results in terms of speech/language and reading success.

In a nutshell it's been recently discovered by neuron scientist that the brain like any other muscle needs excercise in order to function at 100%. Unlike previous thinking where they believed the brain functions stopped in childhood it's found that the brain is plastic and can be "rewired". Brain scans have proven that parts of the brain that were non functioning are now building bridges of neurons by doing the Fast Forward Excercises.

Other brain computer programs are being implemented in Seniors Homes which have had amazing results and some have increased their memory skills by as much as 10 years off their age. Check out you tube vids on brain plasticity as well if you are interested.

It may sound like the newest fangdangled hocus pocus stuff on the market but I've seen the results first hand. If those of you are interested - please check it out.

:D Very interesting! I'd be very curious whether these programs can reverse some of the brian damage caused by adolescent use of some psychoactive drugs.
Wow, Marianne very interesting stuff !
