W Philly 6yr old m w/ Issues

Hi all,

Pasted the whole text in; and in defense of 'normal OES behaviour',
there is nooo way on earth Vladdie would've snapped at me upon being corrected NOR been at all aggressive or sketchy with kids.

this is sam. a pure bred neutered 6 yr old male OES.
its totally breaking my heart right now to do this. i have to find sam a new home. i have to move to europe for grad school and while i have assumed id be flying him there, its obvious i would not be able to spend enough time with him while in school and that the move would be difficult for him.
he is VERY expensive to care for, old english sheepdogs are, so only people with financial abilities to do this will be considered. He can also not live with children, although he is not necessarily bad with them.
he gets along with other dogs at the park, but really, the only time we tried living with another dog it didnt really work out. the other dog was hyper and bothered him though, and he likes to be THE dog of the house. hes calm much of the time but is also very lively and excited often.
He is such a sweetheart and eager to please. The behavioral problems he does have arise from general old english sheepdog traits. Therefore i would prefer someone who has had an OES before. He can be stubborn, and growl and get scary if he is made to do something he doesnt want to, but this is a rarity and easy to deal with for someone experienced with this. He does not want anyone touching his collar when he is being difficult and he COULD bite someone. He hasnt actually harmed anyone, but because of this I WILL NOT ALLOW HIM INTO A HOUSEHOLD WITH CHILDREN. the breed is not recommended around children anyhow...
his character is actually VERY gentle, loving, calm and sweet. he is buy far the sweetest and most mild OES i have ever met. He bumps into things and when they move gets very scared and looks at me confusedly. That is normal sam behavior. He is scared of thunder, and many other things, and babying him only makes it worse. He needs a human companion that makes him feel safe by assuring him things are okay.
I got sam as a rescue 3 years ago. He was 3 and had been moved around 4 times! He ran away from a breeders, was found in the woods all matted, neutered and shaved which meant the breeder didnt take him back, taken in by family for which he "got too big," taken in by some older retirees who after a year, needed to give him up.
When i got him he was very insecure and nervous about abandonment. This is particularly why it breaks my heart to do this, and why i will be extremely careful about who sam goes to.
If you think you can provide for him then please write about yourself. thanks.

I know that girl! I've met Sam. I knew about the difficulties she had with him. I hope she finds a good home for him.
I am sorry you have to give Sam up....I guess there is no one in your family that would take him?

I feel bad for both of you. Have you considered the OES rescue in your area?
I hope there is someone out there that can give SAM a forever home!!!!

Good Luck!

(sorry, I have NEVER heard this about the OES. I have 2 and 4 grandkids and they all get along great!!!!!)
As do I ...
hence my posting of the above.
I figured this would be a solid place to find people good with sheepies.

sorry....  I misread this....
No worries:
I'm the one one looking for my next pup,
and incidentally passing on other sheepies I see who could use homes
(since I've become obsessed with looking for them online).

:)

Congrats on Fuzzy status! Very exciting to be moving up in the ranks. . .
A rescue volunteer in Philly has been in touch with her.
They are wanting to rehome the boy themselves but, will
take referrals from rescue.
She wants to meet the potential new home.
(sharing info from the oes-L)
Awesome :)
Thanks for the update...
