California here I come! What do I wear?

I can't believe how quickly the time has passed since my son moved! We talk about 3 times a week, and that has been a great comfort.

Stefanie (daughter) and I are going to see him Friday morning!!! It will be a very short trip, Friday thru Sunday.

I'm obviously excited! Not only will I see him, but we will be seeing my brother-in-law and his new wife on Saturday (my sister passed away in 2003). They are both wonderful people and have really taken my son into their hearts.

I hope Darcy is ready this....being a midwesterner (and an accountant), well I don't have great fashion sense. WHAT DOES ONE WEAR IN LA???? I'm sure its not my standard Dockers and loafers. Do I bring jeans? Dresses? I still can't wear heels very well (back problems). Remember, I'll only really be there 2 days, and I want to only bring a carry on.

We will be staying in LA at a hotel called The Farmer's Daughter. Apparently its across from the Farmer's Market and the CBS studio. Anyone know it?

As you all may or may not know...I HATE FLYING, but the thought of seeing Tony makes it all worthwhile..plus, I have meds for the trip

Clothing suggestions please!

This is one of my favorite on line catalogs and was the store I'd take Mom to in AZ when she lived there. I've URLed one particular page as I think it show more what the "west" is all about. Loafers, probably not but the Dockers are probably fine and jeans within reason. Calif is light and airy....plus it will still be warm there. http://www.drapers.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=1771&path=1%2C2%2C4%2C110%2C1771

Now if you were 21, you'd be in short skirts and dresses with a lot of leg showing. After 35/40 one need not compete with the younger set displaying your wears. You've got cunning on your side.
deb, id bring jeans and tops that you can layer....

it may be warmer during the day but nights will be chilly...we are getting a cold front moving here thru az, so id assume that cali (on the coast) will be even chillier....

shoes...wear anything but sneakers...lol....well, you can wear sneakers, just wear them with a joozie sweat outfit....and carry a starbucks coffee.. :D

i dont bring anything dressy to california...comfortable and cute...

my personal favorite outfit is bermudas, long sleeve top or sweater and hi heeled wegdes....but you can do loafers, flats or sandals......

have fun....why didnt you get a layover in AZ??????? sheesh!
Next weekend in LA it will be mid 70's and low 60's/high 50's at night. Mid week will be warm due to high pressure over Nev/Utah and the famous Santa Ana winds from NE over desert.

Funny re: Starbucks and running shoes, Darcy. You are indeed a shoe maven, us old ladies need studier shoes for our orthodics if you expect us to be walk much.

Being a midwesterner?! Ouch!
Jeans, a sweater or a light jacket, and whatever else you want to wear. Dockers are ok too. This is California...anything goes. I used to go to Farmer's market a lot when I was younger. You will be in my old stomping grounds.

It is most likely in the 70's to 80's next weekend...possibly 60's if Fall ever comes. Not too cold for you, and it never rains here. Wish I could come and see you...too bad you won't be here a bit longer.
It will be a rush visit, but I'm hoping to plan a longer stay next summer. Lots I want to do in CA., and lots of people I'd like to meet (Wendy, you are one of them!)

I was talking to my son about my clothes, and he said, Mom...you can wear whatever you like! When you're in CA no one really looks at you.

I don't know if that's good or bad.
It's true Deb. Unless you are a total freak...it's all normal here. Especially where you will be staying. Hollywood is the big fruit and nut bowl. You have to just learn to enjoy the free entertainment.

I used to live in Hollywood in my 20's, and I was born there. When I lived there last, Nicholas Cage was living in the building and parked his car next to mine. Rumor has is that Johhny Depp was there at the same time...if I saw him at that time...I wouldn't have noticed. 8O 8O 8O I wasn't a fan until Edward Scissorhands.

I do hope to see you next time.
Where is LA? I hear fires have started up again in southern cali.
There aren't any fires near where Deb is going...as of now. The one bigger one is North in wine country...Napa. The other one was in Lake Elizabeth area...and that is near me.
Could you plan a longer trip? Maybe in March?
We'd love to have you at SheepieFest of the West!!
no black for sure:)
Are you kidding...I wear a lot of black...and I have lived here for (eek!) 50 years. 8O
:) It's an inside joke that my family makes about my husband's family from Canada. They had a huge misconception that everyone in California wear black (true that everyone wears black all over) but at my wedding, they all showed up wearing black.

I think I wear black more often now that i've rooted in the east coast than I did growing up in California.

Sigh- I do miss California!
Black is always slimming...that is my excuse. I really like punk/rock/goth clothing too. Sigh...will I ever grow up? I use my artist status as an excuse now. My friends and family are close to sending me to the "what not to wear" bunch. I still refuse to grow up. :P
We had a wonderful trip! It was great for the three of us to be together. My son is absolutely lovin' life in LA, although, LA is not for me.

Here we are at the Farmer's Market...I look so little next to my kids! I must be shrinking!

And at dinner Friday night...Can't remember the name of the restaurant, but it's in the Grove.

It was a great trip, too short, of course. And I miss him terribly.
