working OES downunder

No, good guess, but they're not herding. This is a different gig, though at least a couple of them are agility OES. There were a total of 13 of them used for this Dulux commercial.

I grovel. Finding a dozen or more trained OES in the US would require flying them in from all over

Enjoy!

Boy if that isn't a true statement!!!! :D
That was beautiful!!! :D :D
I am in love with that clip! How cute!

Speaking of trained sheepdogs...I have a favor to ask you Kristine. I need some clips/pictures of Sheepdogs doing performance (every aspect if possible). You can send it to my email. I have to make a Power Point Presentation for my Computer Technologies class and we have to do it on something we are interested in. So why not sheepdogs doing stuff?? 8O

If anyone else has some they would like to share I would love it. You can PM me for my email address.

I want to donate the presentation to you and others with performance oes, to use as needed to promote our great working doggies.

p.s. martha is going to try flyball this morning. I have my camera with me so I will post some pictures later today :D
I agree that was beautiful. AGAIN I LOVE the tails :D
WOW! That is a commercial I might actually watch over and over.

If that were shown here, maybe people would realize sheepdogs can be trained and should be trained in obedience, advanced obedience, etc.

Too often owners and instructors assume they are untrainable.....or aren't smart enough for advanced work. Yes, they tend to be clowns at times, but they can be serious about their job, if given a job.
that made my day. I'm emailing it to everyone I know!

Edit: I've just watched it for like the tenth time in a row, and its bringing tears to my eyes, its so beautiful! Can you imagine a world with herds of sheepies running places? :hearts:
honestly, that is one of the coolest commercials that ive ever seen!!!

THANK you! When the AKC ranked them at number 69 for intelligence, I was stunned. I've always known OES to be smart, though I have found training to be a challenge. Not un-trainable, just challenging. Sheepies would rather goof around and be silly than be obedient (in my experience). But that doesn't mean its un-achievable.

Well, they sure do seem to enjoy life to the fullest! Maybe they are really smarter thn AKC realizes! I think they have the inside track to information that us humans are too busy to see & we overlook it! Now just how much fun is training & competing if we can't laugh about it now & then? :?:
I think there was only one trained dog and lots of computer generated dogs (and a few computer generated tails!).
From another list that I was on...there are actually 13 dogs in that video...no CG Sheepies.

wait WHAT? You mean to say they took 13 dogs and filmed them over and over? Color me VERY impressed!!!
No. There are 13 different dogs in the Dulux video. They are all obedience trained, obviously, but it isn't just one OES.

Yup, 13 - all obedience OES, some retired. All but one of them, I'm told, (ultimately) came from two breeders. Not too shabby :D

Obviously the huge herd of OES was computer generated based on those 13, but one of the women whose two OES took part (Karen Sheedy - some of you saw the video clip of her Breaker doing agility) said the best part of the filming nonetheless were the scenes where the 13 of them were running together. She also said it took four days and one night to film.

Kristine
I thought turning them loose among the orchestra looked like fun,
Posted the new ad in General Discussion did not know was already here.

Just to add to this they had 8 weeks of pre-production training before filming started

I get a huge thrill out of this new ad as knowing a lot of the OES & their owners and trainers in this one makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, to think they pulled it off with such a great group of clever OES is Awesome. :cheer: :D :D

Who ever thought OES are Dumb needs to re-think any survey saying they rate low in the intelligence department. :rimshot:

I couldn't agree more!!!! I got so mad when I saw the AKC rank them as 69th for intelligence!!! :x I can't fond the link for it anymore, but this website has them moderately better at a 63...

They're not ranking them based on raw intelligence, they're essentially ranking them based on a "willingness" to work and trainability. If you look at the top ten, they're all "yes, m'am" dogs.

Know many OES who get up in the morning wondering what they can do for you? No, me neither.

Know many of them who pop out of bed ready to take on the day and make you do what they want you to do for them?

Yup! Me too

If you want them to work for you, you have to make it worth their while. Otherwise they have better things to do.

Is that dumb?

Naw....don't think so.

Kristine
That is one super awesome commercial! Bravo to all those wonderful sheepies, breeders, owners, and trainers. That work really paid off is spades!! :clappurple:
that's awesome! i think Buffy is television material... i wonder how can we get it to this business :) any ideas?

There is some kind of weird karmic thing happening in my dog world.
I have owned 2 dalmations and they are rated dumb in all the surveys but lots of them do agility etc. Well not herding or sledding but hey, not bad.
I have always said they are just dogs with attention deficit disorder :) You can train them but it has to be just a bit at a time or they lose focus.

Now I have an OES as well, I'm wondering what attracts me to energetic beasties. You should see this place in the mornings as we get ready to go for a walk - its MAD!!!

I have decided (being an expert  ) that sheepies are the hyperactive dogs of the dog world, you can train them but you just need to keep them really busy or they get creative and amuse themselves in ways you could NEVER imagine 8O

So I agree they're not dumb, just not YES-dogs. As my husband says "they have spunk, I like a dog with spunk".

Step 1: train dog.....

As I recall most if not all of those dogs were obedience and/or agility titled. Probably a majority are breed champions as well. Used to all kinds of commotion and being fawned over   8) Thereapy work would be another useful prep.

There are a number of OES who have done (or do) advertising work in the US. I think the way they fell into it varies. A friend is a professional photographer herself who has had obedience and agility OES for years. Her last four OES at least, including her latest puppy, have all worked professionally and she loves it. I get a kick out of it when I'm in a store and an OES on the box of say a babygate looks like family, so I call her up to find out that it is indeed cousin Isaac. Things like that.

Her UD bitch Lacy did TV commercials as well.

Maybe Buffy needs an agent? Some glamour shots? A resume including some titles? Can't hurt to try!

Kristine
Hey, I always thought the OES picture on the baby gate looked familiar!!!!
   (need slap head emoticon too)
