Nola Needs A Home

Hey Everyone - this is my first post to the oes.org forum. I've visited many times, and I think this is the right place to come for help with our issue. Amy and I have a 3 year-old female OES, Nola. Nola came to us from Janet in Montana, and we will be working with her as well to resolve our issue in the best way possible.

The issue is a little complex: we currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area in a house that is very old. We cannot control the temperature inside beyond opening a window if the weather gets too warm. We do not have AC, so the house gets very hot in the summer. The windows are original, and the house does not stay warm in winter unless we run the old heaters full-time. This wouldn't be such a problem if it were just Amy and I. However, and this is a very good thing, Amy is 2 months pregnant. We are SO happy. Unfortunately, we cannot, and will not, allow her to be pregnant in this house this winter, nor will we bring a new-born home to a house we cannot control the temperature of. So, we will be moving residences in the near future (1-2 months from now).

Being in the Bay Area, we are limited in our options. We rent, we don't own. And we won't be buying anytime soon. We just can't right now. And my job won't allow us to pick up and leave for a cheaper part of the country. So, we are looking for another place to rent that is newer, and more suited for providing the right environment for a pregnant mom and a new-born. However, and here's the heart of the issue - we can't move because of Nola.

We would like your help in finding Nola a new, better - yes, better - home. Beyond needing to move, Nola simply needs a family that can be more involved with her, or allow her to be a more active member of the family. Because of our schedules and certain work-related restrictions, Nola's just stuck at home all day, everyday, with a garage and yard to roam in. No one stays home with her - we both work. And when the baby comes, she will get even less attention.

We still have her because I am selfish and know it will make me sad to part with her. However, we know we have to do what is right, not only for Amy and the baby, but for Nola as well, and that means not just keeping her around for the sake of my feelings. This is not a decision we're taking lightly at all, and that is why I'm posting here. Any help or feedback is welcome.

A little more about Nola - she's well-adjusted (for an OES!), apparently happy, and doesn't exhibit any behavioral issues. She's been to the vet for her regular check-ups, gets groomed regularly, and takes her heart worm and flea-preventatives regularly. All-in-all, she's normal and healthy. We can provide pictures if necessary.

Thanks for your time, and for this forum. Nick, Amy, and Nola.

You should have a contract with Janet that states that she will take Nola back should something like this come up. Please check with her first.

Even if you find the perfect home for Nola yourself, Janet needs to be made aware of this. An OESCA breeder needs to approve of the home and will usually rewrite the contract for the new family.

Thanks, MMIV. I will definitely reach out to, and work with, Janet. For the sake of Nola, and absent really unusual circumstances, I wouldn't put her into a home without the backing of OESCA. Knowing that the OESCA and Janet would know where she is will make the process all the better.

Thanks Sheeps over Aces! Any chance you can put me in touch with VelcroVoodoo? Is VV someone familiar with OES's?

Best wishes on finding the perfect home for Nola :hearts:
Hi,

I'm being nosy and wanted to know what the outcome was of this story. It seemed a perfect match to me and I hope things worked out for all parties involved.

Nosy here too. Anything???

Hi Everyone - thank you for your expressions of concern. OESs are a special breed, and I'm amazed at the level of involvement from some people, especially when it involves one dog. We've most likely found a home for Ms. Nola, near LA, California, with a family who recently had to put down their female OES. Nola's breeder is involved, and was instrumental in linking us with Nola's new family. A sad time for sure (for me!), but a great resolution - which makes all the difference! She'll most likely be rehomed in the next month or so.

Thanks again
I am so glad things worked out for all of you :D
Let them know about the OES.org. It will be a great way for them to stay connected to our giant OES family and we can tell them about Sheepiefest of the West in March. Palm Springs is not too far from L.A.
YAY!!!
Nola's new parents contacted me about the Sheepie Fest of the West.

I was actually in contact of Nola's former parent because I was thinking about adopting Nola. I wasn't picked but I was actually very excited when Nola's parents told me he has picked someone else over me...because the new parents are perfect for Nola in every way. They will give Nola a better home than I can...and the best part is...they live in Palm Springs!!

They will get Nola next week and they would like to find out about our gathering in P.S.

First and foremost... I will ask them to join OES.org and I will also give Elissa their contact info.

YAY!!!!
WOO HOO!!!
YAY!!! Another local Sheepie 8)
