Something I forgot about puppies...

They don't sleep all night like my awesome big boys do. I haven't been up before 6 since, geez, I don't remember when. The big boys are mad at Owen right now though because they want to sleep. Poor Bear has been tolerating a lot of chewing on and he finally gave Owen a swat to the head to quit and that just made Owen even more excited. If puppies could giggle, I think I heard Owen do it. I finally had to gate the big guys upstairs to give them a break!

He's been so good though, playing and napping on and off so I can't expect much more than that. His outside skills have been amazing. He goes immediately as soon as you get outside and give him the outside command. The big boys are good role models. We made the crate a little too small and I can never get the divider out without hurting myself so serious crate training begins tomorrow (after James gets up and fixes the crate!).

Uh oh, Owen looks like he's ready to nap again so that means I can, too!

When does James do early mornings then?

Make the most of him., lots of photos please, they grow up too fast, just like the grand kids!

It is shocking to me how many of you are up before 8 on a Sunday. What is this world coming to? I'm unfortunately wide awake now since I've taken Owen out a couple of times and it's pouring. Nothing like a two cold showers in the morning to wake you up.

And, Ginny, you don't have to watch a baby to make sure he doesn't chew the dining room chairs or pee on the floor. Babies are contained, lol.
That little guy is the cutest thing! I have been sitting here, staring at your Avatar, getting more jealous by the minute! :D

You got your "baby" in the Toddler stage.
Those of us with 15 month old sheepies are just waiting for the "when can I trust him/her stage?" We remember the no-sleep time...although Val still has to deal with the early morning part. For most of us, it doesn't last too long. He is just too cute to get mad at him.
He is definitely like a toddler- except he sleeps in shorter increments, I think. ;)

He really is too cute to even get frustrated with-- and he's not bad at all. It's just a shock to us since we're really spoiled with Bear and Clyde. Clyde had free run of the house at 9 months and Bear had it at 6 months. They're so trustworthy and so in tune with our schedule. I never realized how good we have it with those bozos. I think Owen will follow in their footsteps, we just have to let him grow up.

He's a really good puppy. In the same time period of getting Clyde as a puppy, I think we had already gone through most of a bottle of cleaning solution for the Little Green Clean Machine, countless paper towels and a shoe. So far, Owen's only in for about 6 paper towels!
man; that first month; mostly sleepless, which I was unprepared for. It was brutal but oh so cute! I highly recommend napping with your new puppy. Its the best ever!!!!

Heck; I still do it. Some mornings I stagger out and go back to sleep with the girls on their bed.
Gosh, Jill... he is SO adorable! :hearts:
Do you keep pinching yourself to see if you're just dreaming?

It takes a little time to get settled into a routine... at first Bumble was waking up at around 3am to potty. Now we pick up the water at 7pm, I let him out to potty again at 9 or 10pm, give him a small drink of water and he sleeps in his crate 'til Jim gets him up at 5am for breakfast. (It's harder to train the husband to sleep in ) I love that he's a whiner/barker when he has to potty 8). Takes some of the guess work out of it.

The big dogs really do need breaks from the puppy. Puppies are usually pretty obnoxious as they learn limits.

I know! Speaking of dreaming, am I imagining it or did Bumble double in size already? In your avatar, he looks so big. That look in his eyes is just priceless. It's that look-how-sweet-and-cute-I am look but I'll bet it's not all sweet all the time!

For sure! We're still learning about him right now and letting him explore while still trying to keep the floor clean. He whined and paced both times before he had accidents so I'm starting to think he's telling me something. I still have Pee Machine Clyde flashbacks so every time Owen moves, I've been taking him out and James finally told me to stop since we'll never learn a schedule if I keep just taking him out out of fear of cleanups!

Poor Bear is being terrorized. Owen can't help himself when it comes to Bear's tail. Thank goodness the last 6 inches or so isn't actual fleshy tail, just cords, so he tolerates it well until Owen works his way up and starts yanking. That being said, I've never seen Bear so stressed. I know it'll get better but it's tough to see him like that. I've been trying to give him a little extra attention. Clyde's already pretty well settled except for meals because we're trying to switch everyone over to set feeding times, which is not our normal schedule. Then again, it won't hurt Tubby to drop a couple of pounds.

I knew it was coming but, wow, it hurts! How quickly I forgot in four years. Heck, if it weren't for naps with the puppy, I wouldn't have slept at all last night!
Butterstoch, I know what you mean :D I have Jazz upstairs in his crate in our bedroom, I have lost 2 lbs. in 2 wks. running up and down for potty breaks  Jazz is also a whiner which is good, he lets me know between 3:21 and 3:30 am when its time to go, at least he is consistent :D He keeps going underneath Elliott looking for a nipple 8O it is so funny to watch Elliott trying to look underneath himself to see what Jazz is doing. All in all things are going here also, I just forgot how tiring puppies can be. :)

We should start a club

I was severely told off by Bally this morning for trying to have my first sleep-in in the past 2 weeks. Congrats on your little bundle, he's just beautiful :D
We should start a club! Too bad we all aren't in the time zone. We could all pop in chat in the middle of the night when we got woken up!

That line made me chuckle
Owen is so cute!!!!!!!
I am lucky with Finn that I am a night owl and
Marty gets up early so no lost sleep!!!
I love sleep :hearts:
WAIT TILL THE TEETHING STARTS !!!!

Amazing what they can find to chew on

Gotta luv puppers 8) How is the potty training going? No floods yet ?

Sleep what is that with a new munchin in the family, hope you and the boys dont get too sleep deprived.

Tell Clyde and Bear to look after there new little Brother and teach him the ropes (oops Bear is doing that already with his coat) of the house. :D

Welcome home Owen
Eek! How exciting! I can only imagine the chaos in your house right now with the 3 guys! Poor Bear. So do you think Bear looks more appealing to Owen b/c he's all dangly and stuff?

Since I wanted a puppy but got a baby instead I'll need to see lots of pictures of Owen to get my fix! He's adorable.

It took Kaytee over a year to be truly housetrained... and Panda had that bladder defect that took about a year to get fixed. (Someone upstairs must have thought we needed an easy one this time!) Bumble's had 3 accidents in the house (wee) in the past 3 weeks... my fault because I hadn't yet learned what he was telling me. He's the first one to make his needs understood by barking or whining at me. BUT... he was also 2 weeks older than Emma, Darby and Kaytee when he arrived which can make a big difference in potty training abilities.

Yeah, who'd a thought that such a little pipsqueak can cause so much change  Just give Bear plenty of time to adjust. Crate Owen if he gets to be too much for Bear or use a leash on puppy in the house to help control interaction.

It's never too early to begin training... think of how many things we repeat each day that can be used as a mini-lesson to teach puppy like- making puppy sit to get his food; (trying) to have him walk nice on a leash as you take him out to potty; beginning to teach him to potty-on-demand; daily brushing; etc.

Definitely not for show dogs but I take a palm clipper and I leave the guard on the blade. I run it all over Bumble so he will get used to the vibration of an electric clipper. Jim did this with his electric razor each morning with Emma, Darby and Kaytee when they were pups if they came to watch him shave. I honestly think it helped them get ready for haircuts later on.

New puppy parents- other ideas will be GREATLY appreciated!!

 I looked at a couple of the pictures I took yesterday and I'd swear the same thing but he's only gained a few pounds... he's 14 weeks old now! http://oesusa.com/index.305.jpg

In a couple weeks you're going to look back at Owen's baby pictures and say, "Wow! was he really THAT little?". Same thing with Jazz, Finn and Bally... have your camera's close by so you can capture the very brief moment! :hearts:
It would be nice to be able to chat in the middle of the night, I wish we were in the same time zone
