Guess what Chewie did?

Yep, he went swimming.
Not in a pool.

In a river.

We were out for a walk, and it got really warm. He was getting hot. We were at the dog park out walking on the hiking trails. We were at the tail end of our 2 miles, and it was along the Minnesota River, on a beautiful woodchipped path. He was looking longingly at the river for the last 100 yards or so.
We got to a nice overlook, and it was sandy all the way down into the water. So, I told him OK, and he happily slid down the bank and waded out about halfway up his body. He was soooooo happy and I could just about see his body temp dropping. It was about 86 degrees out here today, so I was actually jealous!

Then, he waded out of the water......
and under all that nice sand there apparently was this thick, black muck!!! 8O 8O

Oh my, and just a mere 2 weeks from Nationals!!!

So, we finish our walk, pretending for all the other people that I wasn't the least dismayed with my filthy dog.
I knew there was a kiddie pool and hose up at the fenced dog area.

But, the pool was shattered and full of holes. So, I hosed and squeegied off his legs and underside the best I could. The hose had real good water pressure, so he got pretty clean. Thankfully, I still had an old comforter on the seat in the back of the Element.

So, tonight he got his good bath, and he actually looks OK. No stains or anything!
He is up on the table, with the dryer on him as I write this. 8)

Dawn, I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me. When we go to the dogpark there is this little creek that runs through the fields...They go in and play and splash around and have a great time. I look at them and wonder who's getting in the tub first. People look at the dogs, shake their heads, make comments. I just shrug my shoulders. I really don't mind(too much) because they are having fun. We come home and they dry of and most of it brushes out....note:I don't have show dogs.

Last night Simon had to have a bath, he wiped out in the mud and his whole side was black with mud...what fun we had :x

Aww bless Chewie. He must have been thinking, as you looked at his temperature dropping, "Mmmm this is lovely... and mom doesn't know my feet are all sticky, hehe"
It's OK Chewie. A boy has to be a boy once in awhile. Helps with the psychological issues....you gotta do what you gotta do. You washed up and all is well again.

Good one, Wyn!

He loved it. Guess I just felt a bit sorry for him w/ all that hair. He was being such a good boy - what I didn't mention was that he was off lead for the whole walk. He was so nicely asking me for permission to go cool off.
I felt he deserved some reward for being so well behaved. And I didn't want heat stroke!

He is all nice and clean, and the start of bathing the whites and staying clean until the show has begun. Kind of like a kid and his last fun fling before school starts. :D
I wish we had "after" the swim pictures.

Chewie is such a good boy he deserves to get yucky once in a while.

I am going to bath Harry only a day or two before we leave. Of course no one will be judging him on the way he looks. But I would like him looking as nice as possible as he knocking the bars off the jumps.
gooey chewie...hahahaha.....

what a good boy though for an off the lead walk!!
oh how they like the river.... this was Sami at 10 months last year

Sami's river looks a whole lot cleaner than Chewie's!

I was actually wishing for my camera - even before I saw the mud. It was a gorgeous walk. The park trail in now linked to the trails that go along the dike - I will have to check it out some other time. :D
LOL I missed this post at first!!! I suppose it eventually dried and fell off? I would have loved to have seen pictures!
