Temp Foster or New Home Avail: I just lost my Sheepie

(

And as heartbroken as I am about it (the 22nd of July, and I really feell like a physical part of me is missing
;he was amazing, beautiful, loved, and made me a much better person),
I would like to help a large dog (a person with a dog in transition or a dog without a person)
who needs either a temporary foster home or needs a new home.
In a perfect world, you would know of an Old English Sheepdog that needs a new person. And you would act as a matchmaker between that OES and me. You get good karma, the pup gets an awesome new person with a fun, active life, and I get my new family. I miss looking into his wise blue eye and knowing that we were meant to be together.

I'm not interested in an in-depth application followed by a several hundred dollar "rehoming fee". I'm open to a puppy or an older dog.
I don't have a yard, but my world revolved around Vladimir,
and that's worth a lot more. Besides, they get awfully messy as well as lonely in the yard ... "helloooo, where are you? what did I do wrong?".

I'm great with big dogs, grooming, only feed high quality food, have trained about a dozen dogs, and know the value of an afternoon in the park or at the beach.

If it's a temp foster, I would welcome some monetary contribution for my help.

The fact is that the pup will get to go most places with me as I have a job that allows it.
We will go to my favorite chill, dog-friendly bar together, to the park, on long walks, to the beach, and generally will get to share my time with me.
Most of my time with me.

In order for this to all work out beautifully, the pup

needs to be amenable to social situations.

I can help socialize the dog and/or train it, but I can't handle an aggressive pup. Please do be quite honest about any habits or tendencies your dog has...

And as much as I was in love with Vladimir (miss ya kiddo =),
there were times when I could've used an offer like this;
so if you or someone you know has a lovely beast that could use some help, let me know. Thank you...

Why don't you find a rescue near you and see if you can help them out!

I am sorry for your loss.
I thought maybe I should go ahead and share more words about the sort of lifestyle I can provide. This is all based on my time with Vladdie... who I still reach out to pet in the middle of the night...
hmmm. It's very disorienting, not having him

I just recently lost my beloved Vladimir on the 22nd of July.
I had had him since he was just a wee pup.

For starters, I want a dog who can go with me wherever I go.
A true companion and buddy, and yes I realize the socialization and training
and patience and consistency on my part that goes into creating that.
I want a dog who is social and adapts well to different settings (city and country,
OK around other dogs, animals, kids, though I don't have children or other pets).
For instance, Vladimir and I would start the day by having breakfast
(he always had top-of-the-line dog food mixed with meat sometimes), then on to the first walk of the day.
Whenever possible he would come with me to work (I work as a personal assistant for several clients).
In the evening, he would have dinner and then we would usually go to a dog park where he could ruckus properly.
Sometimes we would go to my favorite pub (dog-friendly, with big comfy couches)
and hang out, watch some pool, chat with friends.
Sometimes in the late evenings we would take very long walks in the city,
when it's quite and the fog rolls in, looking at the architecture and so forth.
I taught my pup how to swim and we would often go to the beach or a river with a nice swimming hole.
He was on voice control, knew lots of words, and I would generally have him off-leash
when appropriate.
He had a beautiful life and, as much as I miss him, I would love to have another
exuberant, friendly, social and lovable OES to share my life with.
Agility training is something I'm very interested in.

I have in the past done work out in the country for people, in which case
he was able to provide a lookout and mind the perimeter.
Normally, though we were in the city (San Francisco).

I will be looking for my new love until I find him/her.
So, if you know of a potential partner for me, please don't hesitate to let me know even if some time has lapsed since my last post.
Thank you to anyone who can help...
I am so sorry for your loss. It is obvious that you and your Vladdie had a very special bond. It also seems to me that you are very sincere in your request for a rescue--

However, in this day and age, I do not know of any rescue organizations that do not require 'in-depth' applications.

It's apparent you love the breed so I am sure you can appreciate that rescues have to be certain the person adopting or fostering an already scared confused sheepie be the 'right' person for the 'job'.

Since I have only rescued from the Humane Society, here in St. Louis, I do not know about the 'several hundred dollars' for 'rehoming fees' or 'monetary contribution for help', but I am sure if you contact one they will inform you of the costs ( and reimbursements) involved.

I think your first step would be to contact the rescue organizations in your area and talk to someone who can go over all the requirements.

Again, I wish you luck in your quest for another sheepie friend and please keep us posted.
Point well taken, of course I understand the necessity of making sure the sheepie isn't just jerked around from sad situation to sad situation.
And, yes, I have contacted the breed rescue in my area (thanks Pam =)
as well as posted on craigslist.org.

And, I did in fact pull my text at the very top directly from a post I wrote for craigslist... so it's not exactly true to what I'm seeing as the spirit of the forum. Apologies if I come across as unreasonable or unaware.
I'm neither.

But I am patient and I know that their dispositions vary a great deal; the right sheepie will come along, and I will be exactly the right person for him or her.

This is just a means to facilitate the inevitable.

No ill will intended...

OH..no...you did not come across as either, IMO...You came across as really wanting an OES to love (again). Most of us on this forum have been where you are and I can certainly relate to what you are going through..That is why I suggested you contact a rescue and 'go through whatever process they require..so when a sheepie becomes available all you will have to do is go get him (her)....

None on this end either.... I sincerely hope you find a wigglebum to call your own in the very near future.

(I assume that is Vladdie as your avitar...what a sweet, handsome boy---I know how much you must miss him....)

Again, please keep us posted --
I agree with Val. Contact the local (or not so local) OES rescue groups (OES rescue contacts http://www.oes.org/html/oes_rescue.shtml ) and fill out their application. See if you can arrange to get a home check done (if required). Let the rescue know how far you are willing to go to get your dog and that you are open to an older dog (also let them know if you are ok with special needs such as a dog that is deaf or blind). That way, when the right OES is available you will have been checked out and there won't be any delay.

Also let the local OES rescue know that you are willing to foster a dog. Good foster homes are always in demand :D

Most rescues are on tight budgets and have an adoption fee of $200-$300. This may (but probably doesn't) cover the veterinary costs incurred when the rescue picked up the dog and took it for the initial vet check.

Many of the rescues don't put all of the dogs that they are looking to place on their websites or Petfinder. Also, most rescues try to match the dog with the home so the more the rescue contacts know about your situation, the better a match can be made.

And...as hard as this is to hear...have patience. Your dog is out there.

Good Luck,
Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Abby
I am very sorry for your loss :( I think the sheepie who finds you will be a very happy :D pup.
the right wigglebum will come along for you (it did for me) and when your heart says yes, you won't even think twice about the cost, you will be just like me! excited, emotional, remembering OES gone while looking into the eyes of a beautiful trusting OES in need......and your heart will turn to mush. :hearts: :hearts: :D
good luck with your search for a new friend.
Have you seen the post in the forum that is titled "Chewie still needs a home"? Seems like it is a match made in heaven. And Chewie is really a handsome guy.
Still on the lookout for the 'one'.
If anyone knows of a person who has grown tired of the puppyish antics of their 75 lb ball of fluff (or perhaps matts?)...
Or just can't keep theirs...
Or a show prospect that won't make the cut...

Perhaps we could help each other.
That is to say, it would be my pleasure...

Have you contacted a rescue?
Yes, I have... I'll recontact.
VV, someone just posted about a 10 year old female in Fresno that was an owner turn-in. Check it out!

http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=22137
Thanks for pointing her out!
I also got a couple of PMs about this girl.

Petfinder says she's already adopted, but I'll call them tomorrow to verify.

Thanks for looking out!!

Much love,

VV

:D

And I also wanted to thank everyone who chimed in in General Chitchat when I was considering the pup ... further pics don't show the roly poly-ness that
(to my mind) is the hallmark of a properly bred OESie.

I know I seriously lucked out with my boy, but I'd be a fool to roll the dice again on that one. God knows when his hips gave out it was heartbreaking.
and heavy... very heavy

I thought I was to get a girl shipped out from Moorehead, Minnesota this weekend. According to the email I just got, they decided to put her down instead.

I'm trying to be reasonable (hopefully this is just some prank),
but
it feels like a giant cut has been reopened and lacerated some more,
just for good measure. For what it's worth, she was my new baby.

my heart feels pretty heavy right now...

I'm not even interested in hunting on petfinder or cl. ....
I just hope that it's not true, above all else.
VV,

It is really a tragic situation. My thoughts are with you.

Hang tough, Hun. This too will pass.

hugs,

by the way, if anyone knows/hears of a sheepie that needs a new home...
(yes, I'm overstating the obvious)
I am
looking.

Not to be a jerk about it,
but one of these days a BYB is going to get a reward
from me for doing their amateur thing they do;
breeding non show quality oes out of untested parents.
Maybe I will roll the dice again.

Maybe I just can't stand this gaping hole in my life for much longer.
The size of the void would be perfectly filled by
(approximately speaking)
90 lbs (+/- 20 lbs) of gray and white bouncy fluff and attention.
Likely to have one blue eye (or both).
Naughty habits that need correcting are something that I can work with
(though by no means desired, per se).
Other attributes would include a smart aleck attitude,
equal parts bounce and swagger,
a sunny outlook and willingness to do fun things,
great love of long walks and frolicking,
patience (trying to leave the house for half an hour, repeatedly remembering I forgot something),
and athleticism (the better for agility training).

Feel free to repost this, pass it on in whole or part,
or contact me either via this thread or PM if you know of a likely candidate for the position.

Cheers
