Hudson took a tumble on the stairs last night.

I have never heard a dog make a more heartwrenching sound! :( We have a small set of carpeted stairs to the second floor (only eight steps) and he missed the third one and crashed down. He definitely sprained something and couldn't get up. He wailed and screeched as I ran to get him. I gently helped him get his footing and he wouldn't put one of his back legs down. I carried him (carefully) with his leg sticking out and put him on the floor.

He howled and howled.

Nothing looked broken, swollen, or out of sorts, so we gently put him in his crate (we had a house full of people over for dinner/for the evening). An hour later he was scratching to come out and we let him take a few steps but kept him pretty calm for the rest of the evening. Mostly he sat in my husband's lap being petted and spoiled.

This morning we woke up and he was a hundred percent back to normal. I've checked/moved/twisted/tugged that leg in a dozen or so different positions and all seems well. No limping...and he's already blasted around the house (and romped wildly during his walk). So all seems fine. I'll keep monitoring it just to be sure.

I had several dreams last night that included that awful howling sound. I cringe when I think of it. Poor little guy. Either he really wrenched it badly or he's one major drama queen or maybe a little of both!

I don't think I'll be able to get that sound to stop looping through my mind anytime soon.

I hate it when they make that sound. I had a yorkie that used to do it at the slightest thing! When she was a baby she did cut her pad quite badly whilst we were on holiday. So we carried her about with her bad leg sticking out. I swear that for the rest of her life if I told her off she used to limp a bit...
Poor Hudson!

Poor Mommy!

Glad he's feeling better; the secondary howling was probably just the aftershock of it all and fearing hurting it again.

Give one EXTRA rub for me, please.

we had an Eskie who pulled a groin muscle as a puppy - I swore she limped only when she was in trouble after that too.
How is Hudson doing today?
