Where are you?
I am in the Freeport Pennsylvania area. I love my sheepie she was given to me for my birthday and I have lost soo much I can not afford to surrender her as well. I need a foster til November. She is utd on all her shots I am willing to pay for all her food and she is house trained. She does well with cats and other dogs and she is sooo loveable!! :D
We have several members in PA; I hope someone will be able to offer you some suggestions.
I'm sorry to hear about your house. I am glad you were able to save your dogs. I'm sure someone will be able to help you soon.
Hi it's me again and I am still looking for a FOSTER home for my sheepie. I have a call into my vets and the Butler Humane Society but no one has called me back. I even emailed the OES rescue and they never responded to me. :( I don't want to bother anyone but if anyone has any ideas that I have not thought of PLEASE let me know! Have a great day and thanks for reading this.
There are 3 phone numbers for Pennsylvania on this page:
Old English Sheepdog Rescue Contacts
It lists them by state. I am sure someone out there can help you...they are usually very busy...but a temporary spot for a puppy should be an easy one. Best wishes for a quick solution.
thank you Wendy I will give those 3 a call!!! Thanks again for your ideas I was really starting to get depressed. I love my sheepie so much and I don't want to traumatize her anymore than she already has been with the fire.
I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out a way to help you, I am only a few hours away. But I just can't come up with a plan. I'd take him in a heart beat but am an EMT on the weekend and take the dogs to the firehouse with me, one more just wouldn't work. :(
Don't forget to let us know what happens. Keep posting updates. :D
you are very sweet b/c of the fire she is totally petrified now of fire trucks, whistles anything that has to do with a fire. It was a very close call for her. I am going to call the 3 from the OES rescue and see what happens. I did email the 1st one twice and never got a response back but maybe a phone call will be better. Ya know this is the part of my sheepies life that I am supposed to be enjoying and showing her new things and then this happens............. well it could have ended differently so I am blessed.........
Thank you for your thinking caps !!!

I will definatly keep you posted
Please don't give up on rescues. Many are run by volunteers, so they might not be able to get back to you ASAP. And definitely phone calls are the best--you know how e-mails can get lost!
Good luck to you. I am so sorry to hear of the fire, thank goodness all got out safely.

If I were only closer...
Any luck contacting someone to help you yet?
Hi fellow sheepie friends no luck yet getting a hold of anyone but i'm still trying. If I have to board her I will b/c there is NO WAY I am getting rid of my baby it is just not an option!!!! A girl at my work offered BUT I'm not sure if I trust her ......... Ya know? I figured out how to add my baby so ya all could see how cute she is
i wish you were in fla i would take her for you in a heartbeat
i was going to say the same thing but i'll be in florida too

oh well

zoe
Freeport isn't to far from Ohio I seem to recall. So don't rule out the Ohio rescue contact for possible help too.
Maybe we could work on a transport to FLA????
Can you find a place that allows pets for a few months. I know if we took her in we would not be able to let her go. I lost my friend of 11.5 years this week. I really miss her, I am glad your girls were able to get out of the house and they are safe.
After we lost our first guy (the one under my name) we fostered for four months. It WAS hard to let go (how do people who foster children for years do it???) but it was very very rewarding and we'd do it again.

Maybe you ARE the right people!
I know it would be hard to give one sheepie up after you get attatched so that is why I stressed that it is only TEMPORARY. I'm not sure if I could give one up but I have no other choice. I am trying to find a house temp but in my area it is really tough.

A co worker was going on vacation and I love horses as well as sheepies and he has 9 horses that needed to be taken care of , he didn't want to ask me b/c of the fire and everything else I had on my platter but he could not find anyone to do this and I of course said I would LOVE to do it....I thought it would keep my mind off of the fire and how much I lost.

Saturday morning was my 1st morning to feed and when I walked into the one stall low and behold there was a 4hr old baby!!!! He was 1 month early the owners never even discussed this with me. I knew the mare was pregnant but it was her 1st and no one thought she would have it a WHOLE MONTH early!! Well my 12 yr old daughter was so excited she just loved him!! It was a nice surprise after such a bad month! :!:
Are you open to allowing the dog to be fostered somewhere besides PA? If you're willing to do transport, perhaps something could be worked out with a foster home a little further away?
Since it is only temporary Ohio would probably be the farthest I'm willing to let her go. My old land lord is wanting to rebuild and he says November it should be done I think that is wishful thinking but stranger things have happened :?
Have you tried the dog's breeder? Most reputable breeders would be glad to give one of their dogs a home for a few months until you get back on your feet.
I am the person that lost my girl not even a week ago. I live near Philadelphia. Again I dont know that this makes sense for us since it so soon. we have 4 cats - 4 birds and a Polish lowland sheepdog. Annie misses her sister and if we bring someone new in temporary, I am concerned about her. I am looking at the web site and considering a rescue but really dont know what I want to do at this point.
but I just lost my OES of 11 years (love ya Vladdie-o),
and I'm looking for one to temp foster or adopt.
Thing is, I'm in SF, Cal. Waaay far, I know.
Well, I just thought I'd put that out there as an option; though maybe not a brilliant one.
The pup would get to go everywhere with me (work as a personal assistant, my local bar is very dog-friendly, complete with big velvet dog-OK couches, the beach, the park). And of course returned once you've got yourself settled to your satisfaction. (and you're right to go with gut instinct; I've had people try to keep Vladdie before.)

Although I'm sure you'll find an awesome spot for her close to where you are. I feel for you and wish you the very best of luck.

Blessings...
I wish I could help I have a five mo old too. My husband would KILL me. Can your breeder take her in until November. Can you get a temp dog allowing apt until then? I'm so sorry for your loss. So happy you and your doggie friends are ok.
HI my new Sheepie friends!! I think I have MAYBE found a place for Holly til November. It is with a vet tech from a rescue group. I have to call her tonight but this may work!!

I want to thank ALL of you for caring and offering such great ideas. I am learning as I go but the number 1 thing I learned is that my sheepie is my rock and my clown!! She just brings a smile to my face when I think of her and I start to feel down about my situation. I hope she does not FORGET me for the few months she will be with a foster!! :( That would just kill me!!

Again thank you for your prayers and kind words you all are the BEST
There's no way she'll forget you.
She might be miffed or give you the cold shoulder for a minute,
but you're her fairy dogmother.

I hope it works out for y'all...
No way she will forget you. Glacier remembered us after 5 years! Actually she remembered the house and the other dogs, I think we were her third thought!
they have long memories. i stopped by dog park yesterday (dogless) and a doodle I hadn't seen in months came running across the field to me and checked the pocket i usually had treats in. and she is a mama's girl who doesn't venture far away.
I have been wanting to get an OES for a long time and have been considering the pro's and con's of finding a wonderful rescue dog vs. a puppy. I don't have any recent experience, but we did have 3 OES while I was growing up and I just loved them.

We live on an acre lot with lots of room for a puppy to play. I have 4 children ages, 5,8,10 and 12. We also have an indoor cat. She is 3 and pretty mild.

My youngest just headed to Kindergarten a few weeks ago so I am home alone and would love a companion. I would love to help you out of your situation and I understand how much you want to take care of your dog. I know that from coming to this sight and reading, there are so many people out there with a lot more experience at being great parents to these wonderful dogs, but I would sure love to help you if you were interested. I completely realize that there is a great deal of trust involved with something you love so much. But, I just wanted to put myself out there in case you thought it might help until you were settled.

I completely understand if you don't feel it would work and I realize you just don't know me, so I would not be offended at all, I just want to give you an option.

Because I'm so new on this site I really don't know how to give people contact information if you would like to privately email or phone me. If you let me know I'd be happy to speak to you privately by phone or computer!!!
Please let me know your thoughts.

Did Holly's potential foster situation work out??? I've been very concerned, but too far away to help!
Hi Everyone,

Sorry it has been awhile since I last gave an update on Holly. First let me address Gina, Thank you so much for offering to foster Holly but Tennessee is too far :( I want to be able to see my girl but thanks so much that was a very kind offer.

I am working with Madeline who is the OES rescue in my area and she might have someone who is willing to foster her until I get a place......I hope it works because the couple is not far from where I am and they have had 40 years of experience with sheepies!! So if everyone could say alittle prayer for us and hopefully this will turn out ok.

I will let you all know when Madeline calls me hopefully with good news.

I am so glad I stumbled onto this forum b/c I met some really nice people with great ideas and big HEARTS!!
This is the first I have really been on-line since bringing Winston home two weeks ago - so I just saw your message for the first time tonight. Please keep us updated on the process. I sent you a personal message. I do not live far from you at all - basically 15 mins away. Maybe we can figure something out together if you are still need someone to foster your sheepie until November.

Kim
Kim I'm also new to this site and I am not sure how everything works so I apologize in advance for being dumb about this but I don't know how to get to see your personal message? I am waiting to hear from the people I contacted them last night but haven't heard anything yet.
Look at the top center of the page. In the third line down, it should say "You have #### messages." Just click that and you'll get it from there.
Butterscotch thank you sooo much I had alot of messages and to all that replied I am sorry I didn't answer your kind offers , I didn't know they were there  I am blond can ya tell :D
I keep checking back. Winston's mom sounds like a good one...and she already has a puppy, so you know TEMPORARY will work over there.

Good Luck!!!!
I was wondering how things are going with the foster home for Holly?
Is everything okay with Holly???
She is still with me.The OES rescue gave me a number of a woman who was thinking of fostering her but the woman wanted her shaved if she took her and then when she found out I bought her from a backyard breeder she lectured me about how I supported puppy mills and my Holly would have all sorts of problems with her hips and personality....... I was so MAD  How dare someone judge me or my puppy I was just asking for help not a tongue lashing. I am trying so hard to hold my little family together and I will. I hope where I am staying right now the landlord doesn't find out! I'm so sorry I vented but that woman just really ticked me off!!!

Thank you for asking how she is doing :D I wish she had a yard to run in but I do take her to a park every morning and nite and she gets to run there. Hopefully soon it will be better it has to be. :!:
Man, I wish that woman wouldn't have said those things to you. I apologize for her. Please don't let this skew your view of rescue. Some people just get so passionate about educating people about responsible breeding that they forget that that wasn't the time or place for a lecture. If she wanted to talk to you about that, it definitely didn't need to be done like that.

I hope that you have luck finding her a place soon.
I love my sheepie! I found this "breeder" on the internet. I thought she was ok she seemed knowledgable and I saw the mom and dad and I liked both of them. She wasn't even going to breed again but she received a few responses from some other people about her last litter that she agreed to do one more time. I had 1st pick and everything just seemed to fall into place. Holly was everything I wanted in an OES and I would not trade her for the world. She is smart as a whip she is loving and is a BIG clown everything a sheepie IS!!! Her coloring is what I wanted ( a white cap) and she is nice big boned. I feel I made the right decision for me and I did not need a snobby woman telling me about puppy mills that I DO NOT SUPPORT!! ok I am truly done venting this time so sorry to unload on you all :(
Feel free to vent! Your sheepie is a cutie... We also purchased Cosmo from someone who sounds much like your breeder. Basically, we found an adorable OES, fell in love, and purchased him... the breeder claimed it was her first and only litter, then later on decided to have another due to demands. We'd never support a puppy mill either. It isn't until you have an OES that you start to become fully educated in responsible breeders, grooming, the nature of the dog, etc... You love your dog, as does everyone else on this forum, and that's the bottom line. I wish you ALL the best!!!
I am so sorry. do you think the woman even realized that the time to lecture someone about where to get a dog is BEFORE they get one - or was she just that clueless?

FYI - having her shaved would not have been that big of a deal - she would have loved it and they grow back soooo quickly :o
thank you  I just adore her and I do love this forum I have learned so much! I thought I knew about OES but I am constently learning and that is a good thing. I want to be knowledgeable about the breed and like you said you just keep learning once you have one. I would not change a thing that I have done. boy it does sound like we got puppies from the same breeder. :?

I just love her long though :D she is like my big stuffed animal that breathes :!:
Hi ravenbrook! I just found all your posts and wondered if you ever found someone to foster Holly? Or if you still need someone to care for her for you? We live up in Warren (PA) and have a 2 year old male who would love to have some company for awhile! If you still need help, let us know! Hope all has been working out for you down "south". ;)
