Poop accidents.....

In the last few months there have been several times when I found small lump of stool in Taskers bed. I wasn't sure if it was the proverbial "wet fart" or perhaps a "cling on" brought in at night after last call.

This morning I got the boys up to go out and while I was putting my shoes on I noticed a small lump of stool on the floor behind Tasker, still warm  , he looked oblivious to the fact that he had just pooped on the floor.

We went out and he did his usual poop and pee.

Is this another part of the "aging" process :?

Our ten year old, Portage, has started having some problems with poop in similar ways. He used to run out to "Poo Corner" and squat down and let it out. Now, sorry for being so descriptive, little plops (multiple) come out as he runs down the path to that area. He doesn't squat down, and doesn't seem to let them out intentionally. It's like when he stops actively holding it they just let loose. He rarely has a problem in the house, but when he does it's the same thing. If his dad ignores his pleas to go out, and eventually calls him to let him out the door, he'll run to the door as they drop out.

He's horrified when he watches you pick them up. It's as if to say, "Did I do that? Oh my goodness, I'm so horrified."

Our vet said it was part of the aging process. Also he's had several bouts of graphic gastric problems, and has lost three or four pounds each time. As a result he's lost lots of muscle mass and has some weakness at the back. It is possible it's part of that.

I'd check with your vet anyway. Just to be sure.

Yes, it's part of the aging process. They lose sensation back there....why, could be several reasons. Just love him and forgive him, he knows not what he's doing. As Tracie said above, they are mortified.

Crumpet got to where she'd lay out a long one while sound asleep. Real nice when one has company and she's asleep in the middle of the living room rug.
Tasker has not yet realized that he's doing it (he would be mortified), I ususally scoop it up without him even realizing it. Luckily because of the food he's on his stools are small and firm so it really hasn't been a problem.

We have a Vet appointment on 9/2 for his six month Sr check up, we'll make sure all is well then.
Ginny I am having the same problem with Kelsey, I find a "Gum Nut" trail from her, yes it is the aging process and the weakness in the back end.

Had it with my previous Oldie too, they just don't have the controll they use too.

I find when she gets up if I am not quick enough getting her out the door, PLONK, Gum nuts. :? And occassionally on her bed in the morning too from a sound heavy sleep and her not realising what has popped out to greet us in the morning

I don't make a fuss of it, thank goodness they are Firm and accident is on tiles not carpet, so I just pick it up and don't worry about it as they can't help it.
GUM NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh gosh, it's not funny but I'm laughing hysterically. Can't think of a better way to describe them!!!
Oh, I can relate.

Poor basset Simon, climbing the big stairs at the River Centre in St Paul for the Land O'Lakes Show last winter. He was exerting so hard a poo piece came out! 8O

We don't have Gum Trees in Upstate NY!!!

I just remember the song we used to sing when I was young"

Kookaberra sits in the old gum tree, mighty mighty king of the bush is he.....
