The Stuff

Anyone know where I can get this?

I use this product as well. I purchase mine at either a dog show, Pet Supply House or Rens. You can order it online through the Pet Supply House or Rens.

Just a word of caution......don't let any overspray get onto your floors! We learned the hard way....my hubby nearly broke his leg walking past the area I was grooming. It leaves the floors very very slippery.
You can also get it at petedge.com or cherrybrook.com
Pam - I have to ask: what do you want it for?

Someone gave me some once, I forget what for, I think I used it once but can't for the life of me remember why. I know I never used it again, can't remember the why's of that EITHER

I do recall the slippery warning though.

I used it on my Beardie.... I applied it per the instructions....BUT..where ever she laid became very slippery--This was a while back and they may have changed it since then....
I like to use it on their undercarriage. Seems to help with the pee mess.

Kristine, its for matts. Sadly I haven't kept up on brushing and even the short hair I keep them in get matts.

This is what the groomer uses and suggests for keeping ahead of the dreaded matts. I want to try it to see if it works. Simon is the matt monster and if it works it would be worth it.

That being said I'm not going back to her again. Simon went the other day and came home with his head still dirty and his muzzle had matts. One I was able to brush out and the other had to be cut out.
Oh, OK, that makes sense. Thanks!

Don't feel too bad about not being able to keep up with the mats. Everyone around here is battling this right now and we've been asking each other why since it hasn't been particularly hot and humid. Try getting anyone to do anything. "Sorry, no time. Too many matted dogs!"

As for the slippery effect, if you think that's bad in dogs...we used to put something on horses to bring out the shine in their coat (not for mats, obviously) that had a similiarly slick effect. A friend of mine did so out of habit right before a show, forgetting we were both entered in a bareback jumping event. You can imagine what that was like...

Groomer, yes, better to do your own grooming. Sunny worked with me on and off all weekend to show me the fine art of scissoring and I even had the scissors I'm not allowed to own sharpened, with Sybil lined up as a guinea pig. Once I get the seven thousand mats in her out.

Off to shave Che...

Hang in there.

Kristine
Another thing that works good to help ease mats out is "Silk Spirits". Put just a small bit on your finger tips & rub it into the mat & you should be able to brush most of the mat out. Works particularly good on those smaller mats they get on the lower portions of their legs, feet, muzzles & behind the ears. 8)
Is Silk Spirits available at cherrybrook or petedge, too?

I usually get it at the shows. Any vendor that handles Chris Christensen products should have it. You can also google up his website & order online. I paid $16.00 for an 8 oz. bottle about 18 months ago. It usually lasts me over a year. I bought it mainly to use in areas where my dog's hair was breaking off (due to him dripping on it when he pottied). Now I use it for the shawl area (after done grooming) & if I find any smaller mats in those "hard to grow hair" areas. Saves coat in the long run.

That's a really funny mental picture... I hope no one got hurt!
Pam:

I can buy it locally in Madison at Animart - don't know if you have it locally in Milwaukee. Also, I like the stuff to help keep dirt off. For matts I like Isle of Dogs # 61 Detangler. For us the detangler worked better on the matts but I think it depends on your dogs coat texture (ect.)
