More fun on "What is Clayden"

So.... I got the analysis summary by fax. The full report is in the mail. It listed 5 significant traits of breeds.

My reaction of reading each name of breed is as below:

8O

8O

8O

8O

8O

Pretty much like what Jill warned me

Just as I said I would still get some fun out of it, let's play another game on guessing what these five breeds are.

Hints: I don't see any recollection at all. Make a guess as wild as you can.

So, let the fun begins...
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
Ok... I'm going to guess:

1) Bearded collie

2) portuguese water dog

3) springer spaniel

4) poodle

5) golden retriever?
Hehe...You got to go waaaay off track to make the guess. No 5 is on the right path...something you don't see even remotely likely in Clayden
Would newfie be there?
1. Lhasa Apso

2. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

3. Cocker Spaniel

4. Affenpinscher

5. Border Collie
1 Bearded Collie

2 Lovable

3 Adorable

4 Hugable

5 Dependable (especially at mealtimes)

He is so sweet, whatever 1-5 is, he
is uniquely Clayden :cheer:

We love him!!
So golden, poodle, shih tzu or llhaso, something and something?
Hmmmmm.....

1 labrador retriever

2 dachshund

3 dalmation

4 keeshond

5 basset hound

:D :D :D :D :D
Ohhhh Dawn...you got one right!!! :clappurple:
1 Wolf
2 Doberman Pinscer
3 Labrador Retriever
4 Smooth Collie
5 Holstein

I have no clue...
So you said Golden Retreiver was on the right path... so I'll go with
1) Labrador Retriever
2) Bichon (just a wild guess...looking for a white dog)
3) Some kind of terrier maybe
4) Spaniel?
5) Have no clue

So if your dog is purebred, do they tell you that too?

I look forward to hearing what Clayden is.
Lab
Dachshund
Beagle
Lhasa Apso
Jack Russell Terrier

I can't wait to find out! Even though it may not be reliable, it's still fun!
And the answer is:

I made a "cut and paste" of the pics of the breeds

Ron and Elissa are the closest. Ron got the Lab and Collie while E got the Lab and some kind of terrier

But seriously...Whippet???? :twitch:
I wonder how much collie is in the breed to begin with? is that a beardie or a tibetian in the second pic?
Here is what is said on the summary fax:

Clayden is unique, unlike any other dog in the world. Results like Clayden's are found in about 70% of mixed breed dogs in the U.S. Clayden's ancestry contains distant traces of Border Terrier (BDT), Collie (COL), Labrador Retriever (LAB), Scottish Terrier (SCT and Whippet (WHI). There also faint signals from other breeds which are not strong enough to idnetify.

Levels of Detection: WISDOM Panel MX detects the presence of different breeds at varying levels. The information below indicates the likelikhood of you seeing traits from these breeds in Clayden.

There is a chance of seeing traits from Border Terrier, Collie, Labrador Retriever, Scottish Terrier and Whippet.

I think if the traces of breed do not show on his look, rather, on his personalities...he should have traces of "Squirral, Monkey, Persian Cat, Beever and Koala Bear"
Kerry,

The second pic is Mr. Clayden himself. I put it there for comparison
that's so cool! I love border terriers...
I guess it's got to be accurate, but I just don't buy it. I mean... seriously. Just the chances of those breeds which aren't necessarily the most common compared to others and then mixed together? I can't imagine what people will say when you tell them in passing now. lol

How much does your dog shed?
I have to say.....the results make me question whether these folks did more than pick the breeds out of a hat.
All breeds come from a mix of other breeds, and before that simply picking a different pup out of a litter because it had something humans liked and wanted to keep going.

OES aren't a very old breed really, and they have at least 9 different breeds in their recent (genetically speaking) DNA.

   I read that and busted out laughing!!!!
I definitely think Collie and Lab would make sense as being the top breeds.
He's got the white scruff like a Collie and the soft, soft coat.
The lab would make sense if it was a black lab.
I said Terrier because of the way Clayden bounces.
The Scottie could account for the black color too.
Whippet..... well I think you'd need to shave him down to see any evidence of that.

I think a Collie slept with the neighborhood mutt.

Whatever he is, he's still a Sheepie a heart.
I put in smooth collie because I needed some long hair, I put in "Holstein" (A COW  ) to get the black and white, and I copied Labrador Retriever because you said got sheep got one right.
Fascinating! I'm amazed. That is very cool.

Does anyone happen to know what the breeds are that went into creating the OES?

Does anyone want to volunteer to get their purebred OES tested just to see what they come up with? I'd sign up Maggie but because she is a rescue, I am not completely confident that her heritage is pure. . .
Ron, I think it was a great guess to put HolyCOW" in your pick

So, I received the "booklet" today.

Not much more information in it. Basically 2/3 of it is introducing the five breeds they "found" in Clayden.

However, there is this part that got me wondering:

Levels of Detection: WISDOM Panel MX detects the presence of different breeds at varying levels. The information below indicates the likelihood of you seeing traits from these breeds in Clayden

You should see traits from : -----
You May see traits from: -----
There is a slight chance of seeing traits from : Border Terrier, Collie, Labrador Retriever, Scottish Terrir and Whippet.

The report really used colored bond font on those words.

And on the chart, it shows the trace amount detected for Border Terrier, Collie and Whippet is at LOW CONFIDENCE.

So...I think I spent $150 to find out that Clayden SHOULD BE ----, or may be---- but there is a slight chance that he is a Scottish Terrier mixed Lab with a even slight chance with low confidence that he has Border Terrier, Collie and Whippet in him.

Soo...Clayden is mainly a ----- mixed ----
:lmt: That is really informative...

Being known to be stubborn, I am thinking of getting another DNA test from another company. Just for comparing notes!
I'd call'em (or write'em) and ask them what that means!!!
ESPECIALLY for the amount they charged!!
