What is Clayden?

A while ago, E told me about DNA testing when we talked about I had no idea what Clayden really was.

So I went online and did some research and found Wisdom Panel. I chose it because only they have OES and Bearded Collie on the list of breeds that they are able to verify. The catch is that they do not have Do-It-At-Home-Kit. I need to look for vets that provide Wisdom Panel DNA services and just so happened my vet is the one and only one in the area that has Wisdom Panel Testing. So a few weeks ago, I took Clayden in. I was told that result will be back in 4-6 weeks. That means in about 2 to 4 weeks, I will find out what Clayden really is...any OES in him all? Or he is just a giant Maltese?

Are you interested in guessing? You can check out my album for his pictures.

Some useful info...He is about 2 years old. He is tiny, weighs about 30 pounds, shoulder height is about 20 inches. He doesn't has undercoats.

He looks like a beardie mix to me, or maybe Portuguese water dog?

Cute either way... it will be really interesting to see what the results are :)
I'd say bearded/tibetan mix
I vote for "All American"!!! :D
I am so excited that you did this. I can't wait to find out the results!! You must be so excited.

Whatever he is, he's absolutely adorable and has the softest coat I have ever felt.

One of these days I would love to have Rags and Lacey tested. I have always thought that Rags may not be 100% OES. It would definitely account for her crazy ears.
I know Lacey is mostly Yorkie, but would love to know what she is mixed with.
Don't have a clue but he sure is cute!! (Do KNOW he's not maltese  )
I would do it too!!!
Very interesting - make sure to post the results. Clayden is such a cutie!!!!
I don't know if any of you watch that show "Flipping Out" on Bravo but that guy did it for his dogs and it looked like the results were totally made up. Some of the things that they said his dogs were made up of seemed nearly impossible. In the end, he felt like they just ripped him off. Who knows, though? Just thought I'd share as he's the only person I'd ever seen get that done.
I think he looks like a PON.

E, my untrainned eyes told me Rags is a 100% OES. Her ears are just like human beings with tea cup handle ears  still 100% human  And if you are interested, my Vet is Dr. Terry Hicks in Palm Desert and the total cost is $150.

 I will remind Clayden that  especially when he tries to squeeze into my armchair I am lounging in and plants his butt on my shoulder :?

Jill, I actually thought of that too but I finally decided that if the result came back with very bizzare breeds, I can use it against Clayden  e.g. Point at him and say "Chihuahua...mwuhahaaa" And just get a good chuckle out of it

Kerry, I had thought so too. I acutally tried to sign up a PON yahoo group but I was turned down. The Mod told me they only accept pure breed members  I had politely asked her if she could point out how she could tell Clayden was not a PON from his picture, just for my education's sake. I specified that I was not challenging her. I was just respectfully asking for her professional opinion. She didn't reply me.

Anyways, Clayden said thanks to all for calling him a cutie. He agreed to take the DNA test only after I reasurred him people here will still welcome him even though we officially find out he doesn't has ANY OES in him at all  [/quote]
it doesnt matter what he is....he is the sweetest and cutest cuddle bug out there!!

spoiled spoiled spoiled too!
Wow. They denied you interest to a Yahoo group? What if you just had an interest in the breed? That's a pretty exclusive club!
I got turned down for a yahoo group once because I did not have a specific subtype of a disease. I wanted to know about testing for it. I guess they don't want "newbies" or to help anyone but themselves.

Odd world we live in.
I've mentioned this before, but we have a maltese site that is like that. Most of the people on there only want questions about that breed and not others. The site (largest for the breed) sucks which is why another was made where people can post free. You get banned if you steer off topic even a little.

aww, come on....nothing like mixing cancer, ghosts and sheepdogs....they all go together
I was thinking about puppyfind and reproductive threads, but ok! :D
I just called Wisdom Panel and they told me they have already mailed out the report to me last Friday ( a book of report 8O ) and I should be getting it in a week. They have also faxed a one page report to my vet. And of course, I called my vet right away, a very nice nurse promised to fax it to me shortly... :plead: I hope it is really, really shortly....
Cool! Can't wait!
He is just adorable! :D
whatever he is he is adorable and look at the size of those paws
