I found a Dalmatian today.

Today, as I was driving back from Walgreens I pulled into our gated community and had just push the button to open the gates and I see a Dalmatian come running toward the gate that was opening, which lead to a busy street. I stopped the van jumped out and my hubby and I where able to retrieve the very friendly dog before he got to the street. phew! We glanced around and didn't see anyone he may have belonged to. He did have a chain collar on and an ID tag which said he was from Sarasota Springs....which is a long way from where we live.

We moved into this area only about three weeks ago, so we really don't know anyone. So we drove around the community and stopped and asked people whether this Dalmatian looked familiar and no one had. My hubby called the number on the tag, but it was a business, so probably not in until Monday. He left a message with his name and number to call.
We decided to take another drive around and as we where passing the locked gate we see a guy and a police car on the other side of the gate. So hubby jumps out of the van and walks over and chats with the Man and the Police...as it turned out...it was the guy's dog. He had the dog in the back of a PICK UP TRUCK AND THE DOG JUMPED OUT IN TRAFFIC! So the Dalmatian was returned to his grateful owner.....The Dalmatian was so happy to see his owner his almost wiggled his tail off. Violet, China and Asia did not have an over night guest after all. lol

I hope that moron put him in the cab this time!

Thank goodness you were there to get him off the street.
You and your husband are heros! That beautiful Dalmatian would have
been in danger without your intervention.

Hope the police wrote up that owner for having the dog in the back of
the pickup truck. The dog was lucky to dodge traffic and to
have you both keep him safe.

Big hugs to you both!
WOO HOO! Another pooch saved!

Thank you for caring and doing a <strike>good</strike> GREAT deed!
thanks for being a caring person :D
I cannot believe someone would put their dog in the back of the pick up! Poor puppy! Good thing it had a happy ending - thanks to you and your hubby! :D
Thanks for helping the dog Helen and Chuck.
I hope the owners change their ways.

Not sure thats a crime in florida - people can drive back there as well from the looks of things.
We live in Georgia and see this all the time. It's heartbreaking to see these dogs hauled around in the backs of trucks and subjected to the heat and humidity to boot. A law took effect last year that requires them to be tethered, but I am not looking forward to the story of some poor dog jumping out unnoticed and strangling to death.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAVING HIM
What good samaritans you and your husband are! Thank you SO much for rescuing this dog from almost certain tragedy :clappurple: !!
Thank you so much for saving this pup - - In rural Montana it is pretty common to see dogs in the back of trucks - I so hate it and used to get crap from my husband's ranching family because Winston has ALWAYS ridden inside with me - -some people just don't get it!

Thank you again - I hope this pup's family realizes how lucky they are to get him back healthy and safe.
Glad to hear a happy ending.

I met a guy that let his dog ride in the back of his truck. I didn't see a problem with it at the time. It was only on his farm, and away from the dangers of the road and traffic.

I had bred my girl to his male, so when I called to inform him about the birth of our puppies, he informed me that their daddy had been killed, and HE did it!

The dog was in the truck, and for the 'first time' he decided for some unknown reason to jump out. The man had no idea he was out of the truck and backed up over him, killing him instantly.

A horrible waste! He was such a beautiful OES!!! The man loved that dog dearly!!! He couldn't believe it happened, and was devastated by both the loss, and the fact that HE did it!

I think part of the problem is that we don't think 'of all' the possible dangers, until we're saying, "I should've known better than that! That was so stupid!!!" Of course, then it's too late.
I have never understood putting people or animals in the back of a truck. The day we found the Dalmatian it was 95 degrees out and sunny. The owner was sitting in the nice a/c cab of the truck. People always say we need laws for this and laws for that. Whatever happened to "common sense." How could someone not figure out that evenually a dog will probably jump out of the back of a pick up? All it takes is once. The owner was indeed lucky that we found him and did care enough to catch him before he ran into the busy street....Sad to say it wasn't a lesson well learned because he put the dog in the back of the pick up truck and drove away when we returned him.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts on the Dalmatian Rescue.....I hope that nothing else bad happens to that beautiful animal.
