Preperations for a trip to the UK

Since we have had our first sheepie we have been in the OES club of Scotland, over the years I have been wanting to show at one of their club championship shows, either through one thing or another I have never been able to manage over to my disappointment.

This year after talking to a friend I have decided to enter Zorro in the championship show at the end of March 2009, this is a long way away but coming from Europe you have to follow various regulations and decide how you are going to travel.

So I have started the procedure and hope to have everything ready in plenty of time.

1) the dog needs to be chipped. He is.
2) the dog has to be vacinated against when we got him with 19 mths he had never been vacinated for rabies, in between times he has been vacinated twice.
3)A blood test has to be made no later than six months before the intended date of arrival and the dog has to have passed this test. We are waiting or the results.
4) The dog has to be treated for worms and ticks 24 hrs and no later than 48 hrs before entry to the UK. Okay we have plenty of time.

Due to the regulations you are only allowed to enter certain ways and I have decided I will go by the Euro Tunnel as it seems the best way to travel, I will drive to Calais the evening before, stay overnight in a hotel and start early the next day to continue my journey to Glasgow, Scotland.

There is still a lot of time before I leave but time flies and I do travel a lot in my job so I have to plan really early.

Lets hope it is all worth the effort.

:D :D that is so exciting I wished I lived in Scotland and you could stay with us!
I am going through that process as we speak. I have already sent a female to Scotland, and I have another going in October (that is when the 6 month waiting period is over)

Just to let you know one glitch we had when I sent Kaede over was that they required a "Microchip Certificate". There is no such thing here, so this time my vet made up a certificate stating the date, etc she was microchipped. Just thought I would let you know so you don't face any delays like we did.
I will come to see you at the show if you let me know when and where nearer the time.

It doesn't take me that long to get to Glasgow from here and it would be good to meet you and the sheepies!!

Thanks Amber for the tip, although the chip no is included in his innoculation pass that we have in Europe so there should be no problem.
The microchip was also included in ALL the paperwork from my vet, including her vaccination record. Apparently they wanted a seperate "Certificate". I dont fully understand what they were looking for so this time we made sure by not only having her microchip # on every piece of paperwork, but we also made a seperate certificate.

I hope your journey goes smoothly, as I am hoping the October one will for Jesse and her new owner.
Amber if I can help in any way let me know, I do not understand why they want that, where is the pup flying to London ?
Well i shall see you there i always go to watch the sheepie i enter my girl nfc so she gets to come along too..
Good Luck to you Stuart. I went thru this twice now... last time was when i brought Delilah over to be shown at CRUFTS. I actually started getting all the paperwork done 1 year in advance.....

The one thing we forgot was the time changes for us.....I flew to Dallas to Delilah's breeders home 2 days before we left, as she wanted to trim Dee up before I left. We took her to her vet in Dallas the am before we left for her tick /flea treatment. Then we flew into Paris where my husband met Dee and I. We rented a car and drove to Calais..... and had all of our Eurotunnel reservations made....... It really is VERY streamlined and easy..... you drive up to the small building and take your paperwork. They scan the chip and match it to your paperwork.... and if all is in order you then drive your car up into line, up onto the back of your railroad flatbed and the ends close up and away you go! approx. 45 min later up you come into England...

In our case, due to forgetting the time change, we were told we had 6 hours more to wait..... and we were (all 3) exhausted... there is a 'micotel' right there so we went in, got a room and took turns sleeping as we didn't have an alarm clock and were afraid we would miss our train.
At our appointed time, back to the little building, rescanned (they had made notes that was all we needed) and off we went arriving in the UK around 1 a.m.

If you need a B&B to stay at on the UK side before you come back that accepts doggies, let me know. We found a wonderful one (in a snowstorm) big old victorian house. Wonderful breakfasts........

GOOD LUCK
That sounds like an exciting trip! We live only 45 mins from Dover so if you need anything on the way there or back, just give us a yell. PM me nearer the time, we will happily take you in should you need it, sheepies and all :D
Get your vet to verify the chip still works, it would be aweful to be refused entry after jumping through all those hoops.

We are waiting for the test results to return, before the Vet took blood he checked the chip was working and could be read.
So folks I am glad to say the vet phoned today and Zorro has passed the blood test so there is nothing now standing in our way, Blighty here we come !. Of course for me it is back to the roots and I am really looking forward to showing at home. Probabily make a fool of myself, but never mind as long as we have a good time, I hope to be able to meet some of you who live nearby. So now the waiting begins.
Great news on the test results. It sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun returning to your "roots." Best of luck to you/Zorro! We'll be rooting for you! :cheer:
Great Stewart!!!! You will have to let us know when the first U.K. show is.
After him passing the test we now have to wait six months, we are going to the Scottish club show end of March 2009 to hopefully pick up points. :D
Hi, I have just booked Ted and George in for their rabies jab on Wednesday. We will have to wait 6 months but plan to travel to France in our caravan, we are so excited :D WE will probably go by Euro Tunnel too Stuart.
A tip from me if you do not mind, if you go to the south of France with the boys take them for a blood test about four weeks after you return home, in most of the Med countries they have illnesses which we do not have in the UK for example and if caught in time can be cured. We always do this after being away with our dogs.
Thanks Stuart, good advice.
