Aggression or Dog Chatter and the Bone

I am new and have a couple behaviors that puzzle me. The one that worries me is my 2 year old OES Bailey who we feed in her crate will bark and snarl at Bogie, our 16 year old toy poodle. We feed her in the crate because Bailey gulps the food quickly and Bogie picks at it for up to an hour and a half. If we feed them both loose, Bailey eats her food then Bogies.

Usually, Bailey is submissive to Bogie. Bogie gets first drink from the water bowl and Bailey stays away from Bogies bed though Bogie will claim both beds. Bailey will not even nudge Bogie, but Bogie barks orders at Bailey regularly. This is just food behavior.

Bailey has never barked or growled at my wife, daughter, and I when we are around her food. So it does not sound like the food aggression I typically read about. Is this a behavior we should watch and address, because it might get worse, or is this just normal dog communication. Bailey may be saying she is submissive -- but don't push it with the food Buddy!

The other is a single special toy. She has a raw hide bone. She also has a basket full of other toys. We keep the toys in the basket, and occasioally she puts her toys back in the basket when she is done with them (I never had a dog that cleaned her own toys before).

However, the bone MUST be in the exact center of the floor. If we put it in the basket, she will immediately come behind us and take it out again. We have buried it in the bottem of the basket and she diggs it out and puts it right back into the center of the floor. We have hidden it when she is out of the room and she will look around until she finds it, and back to the center of the room it goes.

I was just wondering if this is significant or if it is just her sense of humor.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

You silly humans, the bone goes where Bailey says it goes! :D Some times our dogs sense the weaker of a pack and they will just try to show who is top dog. Females love to be alpha.
