Puppy training in AK?
Does anyone know of any good puppy classes around here? I was hoping to get Luna in one right away ... so she'll get some training and hopefully a little puppy socialization! Thanks in Advance! |

Does your puppy have all his/her shots? If not, they'll want your dog to get those. Petco has obedience training, and if you look in the yellow pages... the most known one here is some german Shepard one. They take other breeds, ...or at least were going to take my OES. They're top notch, but I can't remember the name of them. However, with a few phone calls even talking to the puppy trainer at Petco... I'm sure they know the name of it. It's for more advanced dogs though, so Petco may be your best 1st option. There's an awesome dog agility on the back road you have to take on the weekends when you can't go down the glen (it's the road they take you on as a detour to their construction or the road BEFORE you turn to get on the highway if you're coming from boniface/elmendorf) ..and anyone is invited sundays 10-12. It's impossible to miss since there are so many dogs that come and at a baseball field/park ...and there's even sheep herding in wasilla. BTW, there are a few anchorage OES members here. Ravenmoonart has 2 and I have one ...although I'm leaving in a month. /insert fake frown  I'll miss ravenmoonart though. Her OES' are the sweetest. I'm sure she'd love to get together for a playdate. There's even an OES breeder here, but she doesn't post.

| Thank you for the info. Maybe I will try petco until Luna gets a little more advanced for the other one. And I will have to check out the agility thing when she gets a bit older.
And you're right, I do not have her yet, but she is coming in 1 week and 6 days (I'm a bit obsessed right now because I'm so excited)! I had to get her from the lower 48 because I couldn't find one here. I was able to find a breeder/rescue for OES in AK, but she said she was the only one and she spade her last female and did not have any rescues. 
And I got to say, I'm a little jealous you get to leave AK. We moved here 2 years ago from IL and I miss the warm summers in Illinois! I hoping one day that we'll move back! We're actually going back to IL in Aug. to see family and make arrangement for the wedding ... and we're hoping on taking Luna with us (my family back home really want to see her)... so if you've ever flown with pups before ... if you have any wisdom on that ... I would def. Listen! |
