Awaiting Puppies......

Well Virginias temp has FINALLY dropped! This is her first litter so I am really excited to see her babies. I am thinking she is alot like her sister Panda, since she is now overdue and has really kept me guessing as to when she would finally show signs of labour.

Now the wait.....I'll post pictures as soon as I have some news. :D

 And it seems like everyone else's puppies grow
much faster than the one we're waiting for.
Here's a quick update.

She had her first puppy at 5:45am. So far we have 5 big healthy pups....3 girls and 2 boys. Her belly has barely shrunk so I am assuming lots more.

Will keep you posted, and take pictures once we're done. I'm exhausted!
You are exhausted what about Mum!
Will have to keep logging on low for updates....
Woohoo! :)
Sounds great!
How are things going now?
Last I heard pup 7 was being born! :)
It's been 24 hours, what the final count? Are all well and mommy too?

the puppies.

WOW 8O
Well, it was almost 2 hours between #8 and 9, and unfortunately, girl #9 was in the canal too long and did not make it :( I tried to revive her but she had so much fluid in her little lungs it was just too late.

So now I WAS thinking she is done...however I have a doppler and I am still picking up a puppy heartbeat, so we'll see. It has now been well over 2 hours since #9.
sounds like Mom is pooped, hope the last one makes it out.
Just returned from the vet. I knew there was still one pup in there, and she just wasn't having the contractions she should have been having. So off to the Emergency Clinic we went. When we left here, I could hear the pups heartbeat through the doppler, so I was hoping it would be a happy ending. Unfortunately since the vet is so far, and by the time he x-rayed, etc, it was too late. The little girl did not make it. On a positive note Virginia did not end up having to have a c-section for the last pup. The oxytocin helped just enough for us to manipulate the pup into the proper position to have her born naturally (she was breach and upside down)

So the final count was 10, 5 males and 5 females, with 2 females at the bridge.

Im absolutely exhaused, but I promise to post some pictures as soon as I have a brief rest and some dinner.
Happy happy happy happy happy happy happy happy sad sad day, so happy for the 8, so sorry for the loss of the two pups. :(

I hope this means that momma will be able to fully support 8 at the milk bar?
Eight healthy pups is wonderful and the fact that Virginia is doing
well is a relief. So sorry for the loss of the two baby girls.

I don't know how breeders can stand the roller coaster ride
they take in bringing these beautiful dogs into this world...
way to go virginia and Amber............. you both deserve to have a rest......

Too bad about the last 2. :(
Thank goodness Virginia is OK, and the other 8 look great. Nice looking litter!
Beautifull newborn babies, lovely markings too. Look forward to seeing pictures of the bubbas as they grow. :D

Good Girl Virginia, well done sweetie and well done to you too amber, hope you get some rest after the marathon. :D
They're adorable!!! Sorry about the two you lost.

My vet sold me the oxytocin to have on hand when mine were pregnant. I had strict orders not to give the shot until AFTER the first pup was born.

Never had a problem with it, and it did help speed things up a bit.

I have it too - in a 50 ml bottle - for the sheep. The dose is just 1ml - a little goes a LONG way! It has saved our ewes with a labor that stalls out more than once.
Congratulations on a job well done! Eight puppies is a fabulous litter. I am sorry about the loss of the two little girls--I know it must be hard to lose a puppy. Fortunately you will have your hands full with 8 beautiful ones to look after and fuss over.

Thank you for keeping us posted--especially for the picture.
That picture is just the cutest thing. 8 is a long way to go well done. Sorry about the 2 little angels, they were too good for this world.
That has made my mind up hubby is definitely not breeding Summer I couldn't bear it I would be a nervous wreck.

TFS xx
congratulations on the new pups. way to go both of you.
