What do I need to buy for tile floors?

Is a swiffer the way to go?
Anything else to take care of it?

Trying to figure out what to add to my amazon cart esp if it's free shipping as I purchase lil J's big boy carseat.

I use a swiffer but why would you want to buy it to be shipped to Alaska?
I'm not. I'm sending anything w/free shipping to my mom's house :D

litter boxes
litter
cat scooper
car seat
refills for diaper warmer
refills for cat fountain
swiffer refills/swiffer starter kit

....a million things. My poor mom.
Don't bother with a Swiffer...I have one and it is ok. I find just using a mop and floor cleaner works the best. I do use a Sconsii (hot water sanitizer) weekly. I do wash my floors daily.

Good luck!
oh we disagree:) And I am beginning to see a trend - you was your floors daily and your dogs weekly hmmmm.

I have three swiffer wet jets one on each floor!! they are great for quick foot prints, spilt water, puppy mishaps you name it. a nd I was the floor with them at least once or twice a week :)
A swiffer will only work well on flat tiles.
We have handmade tiles in our kitchen that are raised and the swiffer was worthless for that floor. It would just glide over the top and miss all the dirt.
So I was only using it in the master bath which has flat tiles and the entryway. The main bath also had the raised handmade tiles.
So at some point I ended up throwing it out. (After Hayley ripped some vital pieces off it.)
You will want a grout sealer tool. Grout sealer, too.

Ditto that. Swiffers are super if your tile (or linoleum, even better) are flat and even with the grout. If they're textured or the grout line is more than maybe 1/8" lower than the tile, you will only get the tops of the tile clean. I have the old fashioned black and white checked linoleum in my basement rec room, and I love the swiffer for that. Can't stand it for my kitchen or bathrooms, though. Have to have a thick sponge mop for them.
Ron, any specific brand you like?
I do like the Swiffer wet jet for quick small messes, though. It smells really clean. For a whole floor though, I think you go through too many pads.
What is a grout selaer tool? I've just used a kid's paint box size paint brush to avoid getting the sealer on the tile - especially the marble.
I have a Shark Floor steamer (hard floor), I would think it would work GREAT on tile.
I can't find a separate tool. I suppose just buy the bottle of sealer with the little wheel already on it.

DO NOT use aerosol spray on sealers unless you wanna die from a sealed lung.
I was suckered into buying the plain old swiffer with
the pad on the bottom. I went through so many pads-
by the time I had done a 5x5 area the pads weren't
wet enough to clean anymore. I still use the swiffer, but
I am using old washcloths on the head now instead. I
buy new washcloths about once a year and use the old
ones for cleaning. They fit the swiffer head well and I
don't have to shell out money for the pads every week.
I just use a mild Mr Clean solution - and the best part
is the texture of the washcloth cleans much better than
the pads.
For dry or dust mopping nothing beats those
disposable cleaning wipes. ( the kind you buy in big packs-
they are really thin, and usually striped I think - you just
pitch them when you're done, and they are super cheap.)
They really pick up the dust and hair- just
attach them to the swiffer head like you would a pad.

It really just saves me getting down on my knees every
day, and does a decent cleaning.
Tile is easy- just make sure the grout is sealed- and preferably
isn't white!

About a month or so ago I purchased the H20 steam mop and its the best thing I have ever used for cleaning floors. It not only cleans, but also disinfects and uses no chemicals whatsoever, which is important to me since I have young children and dogs. It is absolutely safe to use on all floor surfaces, even my hardwood floors! Another thing it works well on....cleaning the bathtub. I highly recommend it.

I could not live without my H2O mop. I absolutely love it. The covers are washable and it comes with two, so you always have a spare if you need. I bought mine when we put in our laminate floors and it does a great job on them.
Take a look at the Bona mop. I think it is much easier to use than either a Swifter or a sponge mop. It comes with a microfiber pad that attaches with velcro strips.

okay, i know you all are going to throw something at me....but, nothing cleans your floors better than your own hands...on your knees....buy knee pads, bleach, rubber gloves and a steel brush....go to town.... :sidestep:
That's what my mom says, and I've always hated how mops never get "everything," but as much as my kids [this includes grown ups] spill stuff, I wanted to have something for quick spills or tracks from outside.

I can't wait to see what the house looks like with tile. :D
