Unexplained weight loss?

In the last 8 months I have lost about 30 lbs. I didn't try or change my deplorable eating habits in any way and am not drinking an unusual amount of liquid. I do get slightly more exercise than I used to, don't sleep much, and am always tired. I do consume a large amount of sugar and caffeine and rarely eat "real food". I really don't want to lose more weight since I'm beginning to look sickly. Any ideas? Besides the obvious go to the doctor :D

I'd look first to check for diabetes. Have you tested your blood glucose levels? See if you can find a friend who has diabetes and ask them to do a fingerstick test on/for you... or see if you can find a diabetes screening clinic.

Is your skin darkened unnaturally, like you suddenly have a tan, especially around pressure points and mucous membranes? Have you had any acute flu-like symptoms (vomiting, the runs)? Do you crave salt?

Do you have any autoimmune issues like hypothyroid or Sjogrens?

Aside from chatting about it on the 'net, if you're losing weight like this and not trying, it is time to see your doctor!!!
I have a weight problem also . I did weigh about 104 but now am down to 90 lbs . I didn't eat very good meals, love cookies and chips LOL and take B12 shots every 2 weeks but just can't gain weight even though I'm really trying to eat proper meals 3 times a day.. I was told yesterday that I have the start of COPD and the weight loss and exhaustion are part of it
Aw, I'm so sorry Jean. It it something that can be managed?
I am sorry you guys are having these issues. I would seek out a Dr's advice at this point.... because it seems you are not doing anything extreme. Maybe it's time to get it checked out.

On a side note-- WISH I COULD HAVE THAT PROBLEM! HA HA HA I could easily stand to loose some weight! And to do it with little change or effort sounds fantstic!! LOL
I think it's time for the doctor. It could be something like Addison's, or a food intolerance issue, which would prevent your body from using the calories and nutrients you are taking in. Whatever is going on could have long term health ramifications if you are not able to absorb calcium and other nutrients.

Please get checked out, and keep us posted.

Other than telling you, yes, it's time for a doctor's visit, I don't have any advice. But, I do wish you better health, and a better quality of life for yourselves. Hurry, find out what's going on, so you can heal!
You need to eat-- regularly. I've been with you enough to witness your lousy eating habits. You need to force yourself into a regular schedule of eating even if it's weird at first and it needs to be more than chips and candy bars. :(
Indeed it is time for a doctor's visit. If your deplorable eating is mostly carbs you could still be diabetic. Addison's was another good call. Overactive thyroid is another thought. We could guess, but how much easier just to go to the doc and find out. If nothing nasty is found, have them refer you to a dietician for some sound advice on forming an eating program that fits your lifestyle.
Well, all the tests are back and they found nothing wrong :cheer: . No thyroid, diabetes, nada. I have gained six pounds though, and have leveled off at 125. I am making an effort to eat food that requires a utensil.
I have lost 28 lbs since having Archie, I am now down to around 200lb, I put it down to the extra exercise he gives me, because if anything I eat even more now!

I am 6'3" though- no doubt I am still way overweight!

6'3"? I don't think you're overweight at all at that height. Depending on your frame, you would fall right into the high end of the normal range for that height.

Excellent!!

Eating with utensils still isn't necessary with a lot of fruits and veggies,

Actually 200 isn't bad. 185 might be better, but if there's a lot of muscle involved, 200 is right there.

That is great news about the test results.
Good luck with the new eating plan. :D

Does that mean you're eating chips with a fork then?
