Another case of separation anxiety!!!!!

Hello to all!

This seems to be a problem with a few people and Sheepies right now! I just read the post about Linus, and I can relate, and I am sorry that you are going through this as well.

I rescued an OES about three months ago! And once I get my behind into gear, I promise I will put the pictures up of her! I posted questions about possible seperation anxiety on the rescue forum, and I thought I had things under control.......haha, no such luck!

Here are things that I have tried, with no luck as of yet....

1. The Doggie appeasement pharmone....she could have cared less...
2. A kong with peanut butter (she loved the peanut butter, not the knog, she is a bit lazy and had to work to hard to get to it!)
3. Tried taking her out of the kennel, free roam of downstairs (came home to a barking panting dog who peed and pooed everywhere!)
4. Tried conditioning her, a few mins at a time over and over, no luck..
5. Called the vet, got her some light sedatives to help her cope, and some meds for her tummy (to stop the dierrhea!)
6. Sedatives helped a bit, stopped the barking, but not going to the bathroom all over the wool rug. Never ever on the hardwood or tile, and I have no idea why!
7. I read Cesar Millans book, nothing in there about this problem, but still a good book. I am no dog whisperer yet, but I try!
8. Tried putting her back in the crate a few days ago to save my floors, and there was an explosion of poo, and a very upset dog when we got home!!!!

I think I have covered it all. I understand why she is this way, she hasnt had the best life up until now. Of course when I am home, she never, ever leaves my side. Which is fine with me of course. And the only time my hubby and I leave is for errands, or to go out to dinner with friends. Anywho......If there is someone out there in this forum that has had this problem, and was able to fix it please let me know what you did....

I know that she is capable of learining, and she is housetrained, when we are here. I also taught her recently how to fetch with a stuffed pid toy, so I know that she can be taught!!!!

Thanks again... Now let me see if I can put her picture up here....

how old is she and do you know if she was houebroken before?
She is about two years old, although the vet thinks that she may be a little younger. And yes, she is totally housetrained, when I or my husband is home, there are never any accidents, and she even waits for me to wake up in the morning before asking to go out... So no problems there!

She is a great dog, I just fell bad that she is suffering this way!!!!

Thanks
my duffy is going through this now.. i feel you pain.. i am trying d.a.p. and that is not working either forget the kong too ..
try small amounts of time in the crate - with a special treat when you are home - like 10 minutes for a shower etc. You can cover the crate if you need to.

you can build up to longer times. in the mean time - when I havew an issue I put some linoleum down from the home improvement store and use and Xpen to make an enclosure if I think there will be poo. In cool weather it can go in the garage, summer time in a larger room or the basement. and I always leave safe things to do - something to make it a fun experience.
