Sheepie & Pyrenees Mix - Mississippi

I was contacted today to see if we could possibly help place or even with fostering.

Mississippi Pyrenees Rescue has a sheepie & pyrenees mix. She was in the vet's office for 5 months where her owner brought her to be put down because his new wife didn't want her around. She said that Bonnie growled at her but I can't see that with her. She is a very sweet, gentle soul.

Since I have 17 pyrenees here already, I can't give her the attention she needs and really don't know enough about the breed to know where to start to help her. She is extremely shy and will run from you if you try to walk up to her. If you are sitting down she will come right up to you to get attention and loving.

If anyone is interested in either fostering or adopting please pm me and I will give you the contact name and phone number. She looks like an all white sheepie with a tail.

This poor girl is still looking for a home? We discussed her a on a Komondor forum I belong to a couple of months ago as they thought she may be a Kom mix but we set them straight! She's such a pretty girl, I'm surprised no one has scooped her up already.
I have room if anyone is traveling west.
oh no it looks like my derby:(
Dog with her is a Pyr, the bottom companion looks like an Akbash. She is beautiful, fortunately no more room in the inn here. If her foster family is who I think it is......this little girl is more sheepdog in behavior than Pyr, better for an urban family.
If she needs help with any transport westward, you can count on me for part of Kansas, although we may be too far north.

What a doll!!!!!
Aweee.. hope that one finds a home. Way too cute!
Well this is quite interesting. Just received an email from the president of MS Pyrenees rescue - turns out this is not a sheepie mix after all it is a South Russian Ovcharka - a very rare breed. But if you go to the website - wow they look so similar to a sheepie it is scary. 8O Here is the website to learn more about this rare breed. That rescue group is on there way to pick the dog up.

Wow, makes one think maybe they are the start of our sheepies, they sure do look alike
Wow! The really do look like sheepies. I have never heard of them before...but they are beautiful!

How did they come to that decision? Did they learn more about its background? I ask because I still think its coat is incorrect for an SRO and tail is way too plume-like. Maybe an SRO mix? A lot of people in that area like to cross breed their live stock guardian dogs so it wouldn't be a shocker. For awhile, some guy was purposely breeding his Komondors and Great Pyrenees to make "ultimate guard dogs."
I'm always suspect when someone claims a dog is some rare breed. Unless the previous owners have the papers in hand to prove it, why would a dog, worth thousands end up in rescue?

Yes, this girl appears to be the SRO, but she also has qualities that can be attributed to a rather easily crossed OES x Pyr. Unfortunately the temperment in Pyrs (independent streak) doesn't help with SRO id.

If this is truly a SRO, WOW, otherwise it is a cross between two known breeds.
oh my that is scary i just read up on the dog and all of those traits were in derby .. very scary casue that is the probelms my derby is having now .. where did they find the dog? hope not close to ky..

I feel like that, too. It's like that saying "when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras." But, then again, I'm the girl who wound up with a purebred Komondor puppy through rescue and he was misidentified, too until Kom rescue got involved and learned his backstory. The rare breed groups are small communities and word gets around and back pretty easily. And, of course, people can be idiots, which they prove over and over again by basically throwing away their animals-- all money aside.

Sometimes I look at Bear while he's lying in my lap and I'm playing with his cords and I wonder what would've happened if he had wound up with someone else who adopted him thinking he was a mix. I wonder how long they'd try brushing him and how many shavedowns he'd have gone through already, lol.
Our Donaghey was at our best guess an OES/Pyr
He was the kindest, sweetest soul.
He would never hurt a fly!
Unless it was bugging him!!
Sad to say there is a "breeder" in the Atlanta, GA area
crossing the two!
There is also one on Petfinders!
I have one that I placed a few years ago that looks just like
this one!
Poor babies!
I am sure the stubborness of the breeds is going to land alot more in shelters over the years!
*sigh*
I too have noticed a fair number of OES x Pyrs in the South. That's why SRO is less likely..........but you never know.
