Bunnies, Cats and Dogs - Oh My!

Friday, was officially my last day of work! Whooo Hoooo! Summer break and not due back at work until Labor Day.

I went to a posting meeting and decided to vy for a position at a school only 4 blocks from my home (ironically it's the school where I started my career at many years ago). I got it!! Means starting in Sept - I can come home for lunch and check on critters. It was difficult as there was a job opening at a school also 4 blocks away from the house I want to eventually purchase. I eventually decided it will be a few months anyhow so might as well try for the school closest to me at the moment.

ESL school called and said your new full time hours are starting Monday...nooo! I told them I was fine with my current 3 days a week. After 2 jobs, sometimes as many as four, 2 kids and up to 30 odd critters. Plus a gazillion renos over the years. I need a break! 8 years I've been doing this.

Yesterday - Mama bunnies and babies went to the vet yesterday and all are very healthy except little Runty needs eye drops. Vet is amazed the babies survived without Mama for an entire week.

Monday: Carpenter coming over once again and we are lowering the elevated playhouse to ground level and extending bunny palace yet once again. It will be 20 feet by 40 feet aprox. Sod and gravel laid down so my now 18 bunnies (this includes mama and babies) will have lots of room and be under shady trees with grass and can dig tunnels up to 2 feet. (wire mesh is underneath so they can't dig further). The whole thing is enclosed so all will be safe.

Tues: Panda going in for sedation and complete health check plus shave.
Ole Blue is also going in for a checkup and shots for his hips.

Wed: Merlin going to the groomers. The groomer is a women in rescue who has numerous dogs herself so I feel confident Merlin will be okay. He's getting shaved down.

I work Tues, Thursday and Friday but next weekend I'm going to relax in my yard for the first time years! Seriously!

I sat down today in the back of my yard (this was after dismantling the roof of the playhouse to catch my breath) and thought OMG - I don't think I've sat down and did nothing in years. I looked around the yard and saw the cats lounging in the sun while Merlin, Panda and Blue were close by, the fish in the pond, the birds eating from the feeders, bees and butterflies flittering about and thought "this is heaven!". I should sit down back here more often and so I plan to do so this summer.

What a busy life you lead!!! I hope you have a few moments of down time to catch your breath this summer!!!! Speaking as someone who just spent a week catching up on sleep I can tell you "down time" is ALL it's cracked up to be
Your "oasis" sounds lovely. Just thinking of your backyard, with the dogs, kitties, bunnies, and birds, all enjoying each other's company, sounds so peaceful. You should take time out to relax every once in awhile!
Enjoy that beautiful backyard of yours.... it's about time.
Marianne, good for you for taking a well deserved break and doing nice things to rejuvenate your spirit. Just relaxing in the back yard can be sheer bliss. My husband put our inflatable pool up the other day. It is only 12 ft round but I bobbed around on my floatie while the dogs played in their kiddie pool. Fun for all and so relaxing in the heat of the past few days . I basically read my book and ignored them but they were just thrilled I was with them !
Plus it was just too hot to do much more .
You deserve a break....
Nothing gets better than lounging
with a yard full of furries!
Enjoy!! :D
