Wellness Core Dog Food

Has anyone tried the new Wellness Core brand of kibble? I'm not sure how new it actually is, but it's a wheat and wheat gluten dog food. We're still trying various things out with Fozzie and haven't purchased this one yet. Foz currently has various supplements added to his food whitefish and potato. We add Animal Essentials digestive enzyme/probiotic powder and Proform which is supposed to firm up his stool. I really haven't noticed a difference yet but the Proform has only been about a week. With all this stuff on it, he still thinks his food is great!

Oh no.. please don't tell me anything bad. Yuki has extreme allergies, and we just switched to Wellness Simple Food Solutions (the one for allergies) yesterday.
I have had great experience with the Wellness line. I started giving my cats the core feline food, and they love it. I just today bought my first bag of Wellness Adult food for my pups, to start mixing in with thier puppy food.
looking at their website, they have a new "Large breed adult" formula. I might see if I have my receipt for the bag I bought today, and go and return it for that. I'm sorry to only now see that they have introduced a "Large Breed Puppy" as well. I'd have used that if it have been available sooner.
Jo...I think Stacy meant wheat and wheat gluten free food.
WOOHOO! No more messy poops! This food has done the trick although now his poop is a little too firm (can you believe it?)

For two weeks, Foz has been eating the Wellness Core Ocean formula which is wheat free and gluten free. I haven't noticed any change in his allergies but the change in his poop is remarkable. I'm going to need to add something now to loosen it up a bit. never a dull moment.

We tried it and had excellent results in the firm poop department. However, something in it caused Barkley to have an allergic reaction so we had to switch back to the Purina Vet Diets LA formula.

Glad to hear that you've had more success!

Oh no! What type of reaction did he have? Just want to know what we might need to look out for. Foz is still biting at his feet and I know he needs a bath, but I haven't noticed him get worse on this food. People and vet have mentioned to rotate food every once in a while. I can't believe I'll be rotating to homemade food!
FOZZIE POOP UPDATE: Fozzie's poops are 100% firmer since starting this food about a month ago. Since he was a pup, he's had soft or runny poops. We've gone through so many wet wipes and felt so sorry for the poor guy. If his poop gets any firmer now, we'll need to add in something to loosen him up a bit.
yay! I'm glad to hear of your success, Stacy!!!

I'm trying something new as well; as Luna and Fozzie seem to have the same "wet-wipe" addiction. California Natural wet Salmon and Sweet Potato seems to have done the job, when added to the Wellness Large Breed Puppy kibble.

I do love Wellness.

Hey, Allison. Did this food work for you? Foz can't eat anything with sweet potato. It's causes major runs. We're still going strong on Wellness Core

Not in the long term, no. We ended up graduating from Wellness Large Breed Puppy to The Wellness Large Breed Adult dry food, and are using assorted Merrick wet foods along with it. The girls are doing much better, and I have to wonder if they just didn't need to make the step from puppy to adult. We still have the occasional loose poop; but its alot less frequent than it was.
Why did you change the food?

Betsy was eating it and enjoyed it. But lately she would rather eat the other dogs' diet kibble. Since I am nearing the end of this bag of Wellness' large breed puppy formula, I have been pondering what to switch to since she is only 5 months. I am not wild about the smell of this kibble, but I have always had good luck with Wellness. I am not certain if it is the size of the diet kibble, which is much smaller or the flavor.

We also use Merrick's wet foods as "sauces" - those people understand their demographic and they market to us well! :D
Just an update on Foz and Wellness Core...

Due to the rather unpleasant smell of the Wellness Core Ocean variety, we tried switching Foz to the chicken variety very slowly. Almost immediately his poops became quite soft again. It could be the chicken ingredient or the fact that the chicken variety has 3% lower fiber content. So, back to the ocean variety without a hitch. Although it is $10 more per bag. Oh well, it's worth it :D :D :D
Mine don't have food/dietary issues, but they do love the Wellness - and they like the fish one by far the best! :D I agree - it really is smelly!
