PET BOTANICS OMEGA TREATS FOR DOGS (DUCK)

ANYONE TRIED THE PET BOTANICS OMEGA TREATS FOR DOGS. I PURCHASED THEM AT PETSMART BECAUSE THEY ARE LOW CALORIE AND RICH IN OMEGA 3 & 6 AND FATTY ACIDS. THEY ARE MADE BY CARDINAL FOODS BUT MY CONCERN IS THAT IT SAYS IT IS A PRODUCT FROM CHINA. IM A LITTLE HESITANT ABOUT GIVING THEM TO MY DOGS BECAUSE OF THAT. ANYTHING FROM CHINA IM ALARMED ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE HEALTH OF MY DOGS. IT'S TOUGH TO FIND A HEALTHY TREAT THAT IS LOW CAL. AND STILL FULL OF VITAMINS AND GOOD INGREDIENTS. THEIR WEBSITE SAID HOW GOOD THESE TREATS WERE AND THEY USE 100% FOOD GRADE BUT IM SURE IT SAID THE SAME THING FOR THE FOOD THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY RECALLED. IF ANYONE HAS TRIED THESE PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THEY WERE NOT CHEAP AT $10.00 FOR A 14 OZ. BAG. I ALSO PURCHASED THE NUTRO LITE SNACK FOR THEM BUT LOOKING FOR ANOTHER POSSIBLY SOFTER TREAT.

my only experience with pet organics brand (appears to be a pet smart brand) was an emergency purchase of rolled food (ms marley has decided it is the only thing she will eat and I couldn't get to the healthy pet store to buy our usual).

She survived. However, I am very cautious about buying any food stuff from China after the contamination issue and now with the government preoccupied with the earthquake recovery. I wouldn't chance it. but that is just me.
I wouldn't feed my dog anything from China. I also happen to be one of the people who lost an OES at 4 1/2 yrs due to the pet food recall. Obviously it has made me neurotic about pet foods, but I think we need to avoid all Chinese products until we have some control over what goes in to their products.
I JUST RECEIVED THIS EMAIL RESPONSE FROM CARDINAL FOODS.......I understand your concern. I can assure you that the Pet Botanics Omega
Treats are totally safe.

We wanted to make sure that these treats were produced with care and
quality, so we had our personal nutritionist spend time in China at the
plant to oversee the production. He was there during the time of processing
to make sure that everything was done to specification.

Also, the plant that we used in China is one that manufactures human grade
products and they have a good reputation and have had no problems.

I hope that this information relieves your concerns and your dog can get
his/her treats!

BTW, I give my dogs the Salmon flavor and they love them!
That's good to read, but what I might want from them is a statement/Certificate of Analysis that they have had the food tested for opurity after importation to the US.
I am with you Ron.
"Human grade" is actually just a marketing term, too. There are no real standards for what is human grade and what isn't.

Actually some will claim that pet food has higher standards for processing than that for human consumption
WELL I TOOK THE TREATS BACK AS I DIDNT WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE. I LIKED THE IDEA OF QUALITY AND LOW-CAL BUT WILL HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE.
I've noticed that the term "human grade" a new catch term that I have heard at ALL the Pet Food stores, as I am looking for food that all three will eat. China, recently has become very picky about what she will eat so I'm on the hunt for something pleasing for all. I wish they where all like Pearl and Violet...the two of them will eat anything.
I was looking at these too until I researched and saw they come from China.
Sooo... I haven't tried them but I have some other "healthy" treats that made both my dogs sick.
Turns out the chicken, carrots and sweet potatoes came from China. I checked the FDA website and discovered that the problem is ongoing with dog foods & treats coming from there.
If it's from China.... I won't buy it. I won't eat anything from there myself and I won't feed it to my dogs.
Some websites will tell you they have to meet FDA/USDA regs to get into the country but we all know that hasn't been good enough since they've been making dogs sick & or killing them for a few years now.
It's your choice of course...but I won't risk it!
I don't see why these same treats can't be made by ingredients grown/raised here in the USA and manufactured here in USDA/FDA facilities. If they cost an extra $1.00 pkg-- my dogs are worth it!

I purchased a case of these treats at a Groom and Kennel Expo because
several trainers told me they used them in their classes and the dogs all
loved them. They are a good size for training treats and the price was good,
so I bought them.

When I offered them to my dogs (who pretty much love ANYTHING offered
as training treats, all of them turned up their nose and walked away. THEN
I read the label and noticed they were from China. Tossed them without
hesitation. My dogs were telling me something, I think.

Just read a post on another list from a woman who gave 5 or 6 Pet Botanics (from Petsmart) treats to her poodle. She went to his crate and found him dead. Not sure how much time passed between his eating them and dying. He was only 7 years old. Traces of arsenic were found in the treats and the treats were determined to be the cause of death. She went to the Petsmart and asked them to pull them from the shelves and they refused.
I trust no pet food from China and have returned treats I thought were USA made. Food is another no-no and trust very few companies any more since I learned some Smucker or Knotts Berry jams were from China....I forget which. Also farm raised shellfish and fish from SE Asia is also off the menu.
My vet suggested years ago to use the raw baby carrots as treats or pieces of the kibble food my dogs ate as most treats were so fattening. Both loved the carrots and I can say carrot and Lucy runs to the fridge and waits. I would not feed anything to my pets from china either. I also have a cat that likes corn on the cob, go figure. I don't let Lurch have much, just a nibble so I can laugh at him.
