Just dropped Allie at Groomers. Help!

Well I just dropped Allie off and she was a wreck! She was trying her hardest to leave with me. I felt so bad leaving her, but she needs her puppy cut for the summer :(
Does anyone know of a medicine or some holistic type drug that will help to calm and relax her, before I take her back?
She breaks my heart! I only plan on taking her for her cut and maybe a bath or 2 a year, will also bath at home. Which she still does not like, but I can tell feels more relaxed because she is with us.
I also notice going to the Vet does not both her at all....Just the groomers.

Hi Chris, Interesting that she is not bothered by the vet but is by the groomer. Perhaps she goes to the vet more and is more accustomed?

I am not one of the experienced members on the forum, but, will suggest something that helped me- for me the visits where to the vets.

Is it at all convenient to go to the groomers to visit? If the ultimate goal would be to have the groomer take the leash and your pup be comfortable and you walk out of sight then I suggest breaking down the process into as many smaller steps as needed.

Perhaps start by driving to the groomers and just going in and treat the pup when it is calm and then leave promptly. I would do this as many times as it is convenient for you until she associates the groomer with getting there, being calm, and getting a treat, followed by a prompt exit.

Then, and only then, add the groomer greeting the pup from a distance, when the pup is calm, treat and retreat.

Then, and only when you are getting a calm reaction, have the groomer approach the pup and maybe even having the groomer treat the pup when calm. Again, treat and retreat.

I guess by now you are getting what I am trying to explain. Break the process down in small increments as needed and add a step as you get a calm (or happy or positive...) reaction from the pup.

It might only take a few trips. I don't know how inconvenient this would all be given your schedule.

Others that are experienced might have a better solution.

Let us know how you and the puppy are doing.
Thanks for getting back to me Dee. At the Vet, I think she is more relaxed, because I also stay there?

Allie really does not enjoy even being brushed, which started after her 1st time to the groomers. I am sure they are not hurting her. (there is even a viewing window, so you see what is going on) I wonder if it is just the noise of dryers/clippers that makes her a wreck? She seems to love being with Cheryl, the groomer, out in the waiting room. Loves her up. It is when I take her to the door of the grooming room, that the breaks go on and she trys to high tail it the other way! My stoamch has been in knots since I have left her! Cheryl has groomed her the last 3 times, says she is real good on the table......So why do I worry??

But maybe trying the steps you mentioned, would give her a more relaxed state of mind? I would have posted before going, but she did not seem this bad last time, it is getting worse each visit.

Do you brush Allie at home? How does she do when you groom her?

Same concept here with the noise. Have her associate the dryer noise with relaxation and a treat. Can you get her into your bathroom if you have the dryer on?

Yeah! Good head start!

My stoamch has been in knots since I have left her!
Sometimes they sense the stress all the way up the leash. If you are non-chalant and relaxed (fake it) she will be also.

Hurray again. This story will have a happy ending.

So why do I worry??
Because you love Allie and don't want her to be stressed.
Yes, I brush Allie at home, every morning, sometimes in the evening if she has played with the neighbor dogs. I also keep her matt free, by raking and cutting. She sits for me thru all this, but is also trying to get away at the 1st chance. I give her a special treat everytime she is groomed, so I think that is why she tolerates, which also made me realize your suggestions will most likely work

She is home right now, looks and feels so nice and soft. She is playing with her BFF, the boxer behind us. Does not seem traumatized at all. So also makes me realize you are right, she probably sensed my anxiety about taking her!

I know I could learn from everyones help to do this at home, but I figure at least one time a year, to be shaved, at least 2 other times for bathing, all the profesional plucking trimming that comes along, they do a better job.

It's kinda like going out to dinner knowing that you can cook yourself something. No dishes, no clean up, someone else is the slave...
Even when you can do all of it yourself nothing beats a treat now and then (says the sheepie in me).
I have a mobile groomer that comes to my home. I met her several times before I used her and hung out my upstairs window peering in watching how she handled my boy (Dees nephew :) ) Do you have one in your area?? Dee I love your avatar!!!!!!!
Yes, actually we do! I was concerned though, how hot and crowded it is in the back of the van, while they are grooming? What was your thoughts on it, after the job was done? An older couple around the block always have their small white dog done in the mobile groomer.
Guinness is 3 and I have used her three times once last year when my mom was ill for three months I was so busy with her I had Guinness put in a poppy cut. I used her about three months ago to groom him just a bath and brushing (it was 150 bucks he had some matts) and about a year ago for a bath and sissir clip to undo my botch job. I have not used her in the hot hot months I would think the unit would be air conditioned for the groomer as well as the animals being groomed. I really like my mobile groomer but scoped her out for about a year before I used her. Get a reference from your neighbors and ask the groomer if she has had OES experience My groomer has about 4 she does but said Guinness is the nicest sheep she does by far. Hope it helps It is hard when they are scared. maybe just get the Mobile groomer (if you use them ) to brush some first visit to get her comfortable. Guinness was fine and he is a velcro dog . Hope this is helpful and good luck. How did she do????
Chris, you could try some Rescue Remedy, if it doesn't help it won't hurt. I always wonder if it's kind of like leaving your kids with a babysitter, they cry and carry on until you're out of sight and then they're fine
How is Allie after the grooming experience?

What is this? Is this something that will calm them down?...And if so, why didn't someone tell me about it during Puppy Obedience?

No, really, what is this?
Bach's rescue remedy is a flower botanical known for it's calming properties. It originally started as a people thing, but tons of dog people use it with their dogs.

I have a brand new unopened bottle, and I have used it a few times in the past with rescues.
That would be a good idea, just to give them a calming effect before they go...Huh, will have to order some.

Allie has been fine since I picked her up! She even looks great. Usually after I pick her up from the groomers, she ignores me for the rest of the day. This time when we got in the car, I was telling her how pretty she looks (Like I always do) and she gave me about 4 big sheepie kisses
