age limit

i think there should be more young people involved in these forums (and probably others as well)—because old folks are just too grumpy grouchy!
maybe Ron could set up some sort of limited acceptance to at least keep the ratio to…maybe, 4 – 1?
no one, mind you, should lose their membership, (don’t want to cut my own nose off) but just get some young people that haven’t already “had it up to here” with the world.
they’re so naive! and cute!

Hahaha. Thats funny. How young is young? Because I think I am fast becoming jaded and I am not all that old yet.
i don't know. i was just sitting here thinking how old are you when you've had it up to your hips?
It changes everyday, and if it was only up to my hips....

WOO HOO!
I'm old but not Jaded yet!!!
well as I'm ancient and have started back into childhood so I guess that means I can stay
I am young, probably one of the youngest active members. One reason I am on this forum is for the experience and expertise the other members can provide. So, while I enjoy other members my age, I'd much rather converse with those who have more knowledge than I.
:D I am young too (29 this month)!!! I joined here looking for good advice from experienced people with years of experience with this breed!

I truly enjoy reading through the posts and seeing the differing opinions on here. Everyone on here is so passionate it is easy to see how things can get heated so easily!

I hope to become more actively involved in the near future!! I just want to say thank you to all of you who spend so much time helping people on this forum!

My husband has been informed WELL ahead of time of my plans for Sheepiepalooza next year....Brosnan will be over a year old then and hopefully out of his chewing flesh stage!

I'm hoping this was all said in jest, because I'm having trouble seeing straight, what with the steam coming out of my ears. If you are serious, I feel sorry for you for not wanting to learn from those who have gone and learned before you. I personally don't feel I'm "too grumpy grouchy" JUST because of my age. Due to life experiences, anyone at ANY age can be "grumpy grouchy." Do YOU feel YOU'RE "so naive and cute" just because of your age?? Or are you one of those young'ns who thinks they know all the ways of the world already?

I have to stop here because there are SO many thoughts running through my mind that I'm sure would not fit in the "act like you're having a cup of tea with a neighbor" mantra.

And BTW, thanks SO much for saying I shouldn't lose my membership because of my age. How ADULT of you!!

Ooooooo your last "20's" bday....
I agree with Chris, I HOPE this was a joke.

If recent posts are any example it seems to me it is the young ones who have gotten cranky.

How nice that us "old" ones would be allowed to stay
Since Jill is so much older and wiser than the rest of us, she told me that it's not your 30th birthday that is so bad; it's #31. When you turn 30 you are just 30. When you turn 31, you are now in your 30's.

And I'm one of the younger people here and I'm also probably one of the more jaded. So age is not a good indicator of crankiness.

Absolutely true.
8O I'm confused by all of this. Was this a joke? If not, its pretty insulting.

As I said, I'm confused. Perhaps its due to my age

I have a feeling the original poster (peeps) is joking. At least I hope so. The last few days have been pretty tense around here. It's like a soap opera.
I am young 28 and well pretty dumb when it comes to most of the things on here
My "jadedness" fluctuates daily and sometimes inbetween posts  . Should we refrain when our jadedness is at a high rather than corelate it to our age? Or, are the elderly forgiven for their jadedness?- I prefer the later.
How does anybody even begin to guess anybody else's ages on a forum? Especially if you are new-ish? Just because someone has possibly been a member here for a long time doesn't equate to them being an older person!

Being involved in networking software on a professional level, I think it's hilarious to presume that there are more "older" than "younger" people on any forum! That's just not the way the demographics slice, sister.

I don't hear the sarcasm in peeps' original post...hope I'm wrong. I have all kinds of things I would say about it if it's sincere....except I'm just going to enjoy this lovely tea, instead. :D

(btw, I'm not "older", either!)
GOOD LORD!!! I hope this is a joke!!

I'll take my aged wisdom over the absurdity of youth ANYDAY!

In regard to recent issues, it is not just the old folks that are the problem, I've read some pretty offensive posts from the younguns!
debcram wrote:

some things are not worth commenting on.
True cynicism comes from the soul, not from age.

We actually did do a membership poll on here on age once. Let's see if I can find it. ..

Here it is: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=10461
I read most but not all of the posts as I'm about to head out, but....

while I don't mind if younger people populated this board, I rather things just as they are because there's one thing I seem to always run into at other board with a "younger crowd" ...and that's trifling immature behavior that leads to people making fake names to hurt others and a lot of excessive whining and fighting.
hhhmmm, well, im not ''young'' any more.

i have waay more grey hair than i think i should.

BUT, i still do ''young'' and ''stupid'' stuff like falling into the ocean on a bet and breaking my nose at weddings....

SOOO, ill give myself a pass...since i still havent learned quite how to be mature.....
ButtersStotch wrote:

I completely agree.

I am on the forum for support, advice, to learn, and to chat with my friends. Whether my friends are 24 or 54, I don't really care. We have somthing in common and I enjoy their company.
Are we referring to age or maturity???? I don't consider myself old (my kids may disagree) and I really don't see any reason to grow up...I'm having too much fun!

thanks! 8O, but that doesn't really express my feelings at all!
none of those little guys over there do.
the first few posters got it, and continued the fun flow. it almost seems like some folks want to argue and fuss!!!! by the way, if i have to use these yellow guys they're gonna be all over the post! or any, for that matter! some like to fuss, i like to joke.
i'm kind of like a Groucho Marx, black mustache and everything that i wax frequently ---now the mustache part IS a joke! (i difinitely wanted that clarified!!!) - they're just fuzzies!!!!!

i must admit, some of the posters had me chuckling. Steam??? why? i don't know anyone's age (which i think should appear next to their sign in name)or gender half the time, so how could it be a personal attack on anyone's post in particular? most of you just look like shaggy black and white critters that possibly have trouble seeing through your hair. i don't look like that, so i don't put up my picture for fear of ridicule!

just so you know, those that are older have had more time to have troubles in their life, so their fuse does shorten with age. the wise ones burn what's left with caution!!!! do i need a yellow guy?

It's not that I didn't "get" it, because I did start off saying that I hope it was a joke. And there are more than just "those little yellow guys" to the left. If you click on the "view more emoticons" you will find a host of different ones to choose from. So see? You DO need us to guide you! :rimshot:

As for the older ones having had more time to have bad things happen to them, again I disagree. Just because we've lived longer doesn't mean we're harder, more jaded. Just means we've celebrated more birthdays.

I'm not looking to argue and fuss, as you put it. I'm just defending myself from what was not fully apparent as a joke. :sidestep:
peeps wrote:

Why would it matter to you how old someone is?

peeps wrote:

This is meant to be helpful:

Emoticons exist because it is so easy to mis-interpret the written word, especially in an informal setting. I think most people...me included....just do not know how to read you. You're not communicating in a traditional forum style, and you're saying things that can be interpreted as insults or taken quite literally without the help of "a yellow guy".

You're wronger than wrong that older people have shorter fuses, because there is no hard and fast rule that applies to everybody. There are impatient young people, there are patient older people. But who knows if you're just teasing or if you really believe that? To me, it sounds like you really believe it. Coupled with the posts you added yesterday, you have a tendency to put people off by sticking them in the silos of your pre-conceived notions.

Maybe if you'd take a bit to ponder how your posts will be received, it would be helpful in getting to know you and make what you're really trying to say come across better to most readers.
I'm 55, in your world does that make me old, young, or somewhere in between?
i just viewed my last post. i crack myself up!!!
i have to like myself - i've nowhere else to go.

Ditto.

I'm not trying to ridicule, but please do remember when posting that people on the forum have all different backgrounds, education, and personalities. And while we all love a good joke, we can't see you smiling behind your teacup  , so a few emotions, italics, or a simple "HA-HA" is always useful!
Peeps; you crack me up! I guess we are on the same sort of wave-lenght, as I got your joke from the start. But I'm a wizened 38 years old, so I'm sure I'll be packed off on the first boat shipping the geezers outta here!

I've quit celebrating birthdays and now celebrate anniversaries. This month was the 21st anniversary of my 31st birthday. I find that with age comes patience that I never thought I would have. Peeps....I though the post was funny!!! It is so hard to tell how people mean things just by reading a post! And NO I don't think it is funny to pick on older people...please don't misread this anyone! :D

It is not so bad being old, when you get up in the morning and your bones ache at least you know you are still living, the morning you get up and they don't ache anymore well................ :D
As I read the initial post it sounded serious, but I sensed it was an intentional "mean" humor?? :?

No, I don't think its funny to pick on older people either. Period.
Don't get me wrong, I CAN take a joke, but our seniors are treated with so little respect now days that you stand the chance of really hurting someone's feelings badly when you make them feel excluded. :(

I can't tell you how many times I took my grandmother shopping and she was "next" in line, yet the cashiers would act like she was invisible and offer assistance to the person standing next to her.

These seniors you're poking fun of are due more respect than that, reguardless of whether you think its funny or not. Our behavior toward them is what teaches the younger generation what is, or is not proper behaviour towards them.

I know how this sounds but, I don't mean any disrespect so please keep that in mind!!! jmpo :?
