In the ear itself or on the flap?
no its deep down...ive just been cleaning what i can see..im afraid to dig too deep.....it does not smell like anything other than dog ear......
I periodically use an earwash on all the dogs. It is one that I buy OTC at our local pet supply.

I warm it a bit in the microwave 1st. Cold liquid in the ear is not fun! Just make sure it isn't too warm.
Then I hold the earflap up and gently fill the ear canal. I do both sides. Then I gently massage and work it in. This loosens the crud. Then I let go and step back - and let the shaking begin! The shake sends the liquid and junk flying out. (For obvious reasons, I do this only in the tub while bathing, or outside in the yard!)
Then I wipe down the ear flap and what I can easily reach with a soft cloth.
If needed, wait a day or 2 and do it again. That should help. :D
Our vet said to use aout a third vinegar to two thirds water. he says the vinegar helps to dry it out and is less abrasive than the alchohol. seems to work.
Frequently we have found excessive wax to be a precursor to a full blown ear infection. We still aren't sure if the beginning of the infection causes the wax, or if the wax causes the infection.
For just regular ear cleaning now I'm using an otc ear cleaner called imREX. It's fantastic. Then I use R7 ear powder after to keep them dry and it's great to use before plucking ear hair too.

If there is an infection (which Dancer used to get so frequently) I use a home made solution of boric acid powder, gentian violet drops and witch hazel. It works better than anything the vet has prescribed.

Ditto. Oliver's first and only ear infection began with excessive wax.
Summer gets wax build up. I use ear powder for a couple of days and then a damp baby wipe to gently clean the inside of the ear. She sort of moans at me when I am doing it, you know like when you have an itchy ear and you cant quite get at it!
This stuff works well too- K9 Ear Solution

If the wax is down deep in the canal, you may have to use whatever you're using a few times to loosen it up. I fill the ear, massage it, then let them shake it off (outside or in the tub as mentioned is a VERY good idea :D).

Ditto too. If you have not seen this problem before...an ear infection is probably in it's beginning. When Violet was a pup we delt with ear infections quite a lot. According to Dr Oz ear wax is a natural cleaner/protector of your ear. Be careful you don't push it into her ears however. The alcohol is not a good idea it dries out the ear, which you don't want to do. I found the more I cleaned and messed with Violet's ears the worse they seem to get. I no longer even have the little hairs pulled out and have not had an ear infection in years. (yes, during the ear infection days I was working along with my Vet to get her healed)

Poor Panda plez giver her a hugs from us.
