We are between sheepdogs right now but will be picking up our Windchyme pup in about six weeks. It has been some time since we clipped any of our dogs ourselves as we could get it done locally for $20.00. Our local groomer was injured and may not return to grooming so we are getting ready for a do-it-yourself operation. We have an Andis AG2 super speed clipper. We used regular #4 blades in the past but I see they also sell a skip tooth blade. Has anyone had any experience with them or are they needed at all?

Hello,

Skip tooth blades are typically used on animals with very thick coats, or if they are matted. They do not give a very even cut (slightly longer sections left behind) due to the lack of teeth on the comb, but do remove large amounts of hair.

They are not meant to be used for the final cut. You would switch to your #4 or #4F blade to finish.

Don't forget to clean and oil your blades about every 10 minutes to keep it from going dull prematurely. A Cool/Lube type spray is NOT a substitute for oil.

Hi
You should not use a skip blade on this type of cot at all. Use the standard ones either the f or ceramic.
