Sheepiepalooza 2008 - Thank You!

Thank you, St. Louis OES Rescue for such an amazing weekend! I hope everyone is arriving home safe and sound.

A special thanks to Judi, Val and George for heading up the weekend and organizing the events. I'm still bummed about missing the Friday picnic, but we had a really great time the entire weekend! The best part was meeting so many folks from the forum that I've been chatting with for several years :D It's great to put "live" faces with everyone.

We arrived home a few hours ago and Foz seems to be getting back to himself. He really wasn't feeling well; guess it was too much excitement for him. Mom brought Annie came back home so all is "normal" again :D

I want to say what a great bunch of people I have met!!

Thank you to EVERYONE for coming!! It was great fun!!
 :cheer: :go: :high5: :excited: :yay:

Julie & Addie
Thanks, Judi, George and all the wonderful members of the St. Louis Old English Sheepdog Club!!! It was an amazing weekend, even for the"walking wounded" such as myself. The weather cooperated for the most part, new friendships were made, old friends getting the chance to meet... Great food, fun and fellowship. It was ALL GOOD!!!

:ghug:

Nita & Nelson
We got home about an hour ago. We too wanted to say thank you to Judi, George, Val, Vern and the other members of the St Louis OES club. We had a fantastic time and the dogs loved it.

I loved meeting in person so many of the dogs I have been hearing stories about and seeing pictures of them. Oh yeah - I did enjoy meeting their parents too.

Having 4 dogs - we didn't take many pictures. (It is very hard to hold 4 dogs and a camera steady to take the picture.) However, I know that there were a lot of folks there that did take tons of pictures. I too can't wait to see them.

Thanks again to the St Louis OES Club!

P.S. Val - those dog treats taste really good at 3 in the afternoon driving home from St Louis! You will need to share the receipe.
You guys really did a great job putting everything together-- thanks so much! Like I told everyone at Purina Farms, just the fact that Bear was too wiped out to protest all the trimming he was getting was well worth the trip, lol. :)

I'm also looking forward to pictures. I didn't really take any either but I know all you guys got some good ones. I'm especially looking forward to seeing one of the ones that Nita took of Clyde on the --get this-- agility equipment!
I just got home a couple hours ago too. :D

Chewie, Simon and I had a wonderful time!
Thanks to Judi, George, Val, Erica and the rest of the "locals" who worked so hard to get this all organized again for us this year.

I will also post pics later, I need to unpack a bit 1st......
2 major road trips in 10 days has left everything here kind of a disaster. Oh, well, I had fun, fun, fun!!!

Also, I am pleased to announce we have 8 new OES who are AKC Canine Good Citizens. :D :D :D :D
Yes!! What a fun weekend. My little group had a blast!

I have to see those :D
I can only add my thanks to all of the rest.

I've had the good fortune to attend a few OES nationals and even help organize some events here and there and I have never, ever seen a group of people who worked harder to make things so much fun for the rest of us. What an absolutely incredible club and what an unbelievably amazing event. The WI club could learn a lot from you.

Sign me up for volunteering to help next year (once you've recovered which I know from experience takes an average of five months   ) and a special thank you for your initiative to offer the OESCA Health & Research a fundraising opportunity in addition to your generous donation to rescue.

Sybil and Mad Dog would offer a special thanks to the person who dreamed up holding the performance events and picnic at Purina Farms - they were especially impressed with the cow patties and sheep poo and hope this will become standard equipment for agility rings every where. Seriously, it was a beautiful setting. I can't remember when my dogs or I had more fun. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

And Jill, I swear I saw something in cords on the mini A-frame as well. No pictures of him?????

Kristine
WOW!!!! What a weekend....This was MY first SHEEPIEPALOOZA and because of the forum, I felt like I knew everyone already..I had so much fun talking to you all. Learning about rally and agility. I have been going over in my head the activities and all the beautiful magnificent sheepies. I was in HEAVEN!!!

I best part, aside from meeting and actually talking to all of the people who have helped me with the 'issues'....(there you go Judi....) with Heart :hearts: --- I was able to see her and Pearl have so much fun!!! Playing with all their new friends, watching them in the events and watching everyone in "the ring"....

I am seriously thinking of going to Nationals with Heart.
First and formost to see everyone again and also, I really think she will have a ball!!!! But I know I have a lot of work ahead of me to get us ready!!!

Thank you all for coming to join us for SHEEPIEPALOOZA!!! I know many of you had very long rides to and from--- and the STLOES Club really appreciates your support. All of our members were so excited about this year and we all want to thank Judi for her remarkable organizational skills and direct approach to putting all this together...without her guidance there would be no SHEEPIEPALOOZA....(hope you are not TOO embarressed, Judi   )

Can we all say...JUDI C. FOR PRESIDENT??????? :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :yay: :yay:

I know Nick is working hard to get the pictures up quickly. He just emailed me that "some" of the Sunday pics are loaded on his site...and there will be more in the days to come. When he left yesterday, his comment was, "Boy...that was fun!!!!....now comes the hard part. Deciding which pictures to post."

Poor Pearl has been sleeping ALL day....it's heck to get old!!!!!

Well, I'm a LITTLE tired just like everyone else... I'm off to bed and tomorrow back to work and reality!!!!

(Now when I read posts from you guys, I have faces to go with the names and memories of a great SHEEPIEPALOOZA!!!!!!)

I guess you're suggesting that Stloes host a national?
Hi All,
I would also like to add my thanks to everyone at the OES Club of St. Louis!
A special thanks to George for hosting us on Friday night. The whole weekend was a lot of fun, well planned and well run!

Again thanks to everyone for their time and effort to make this such a successful event.

Was I that transparent?

Actually - YES. You'd need a lot of outside help from the other midwest clubs, just because. But you have what is in so many ways the perfect setting both for an actual national as well as being as accessible as any place in the country could ever be, relatively speaking. It's a performance mecca and your guys have the positive energy and sense of fun that is seriously waning elsewhere in the clubs. One major drawback would be that the breed judging needs to be inside - I believe they may have added that requirement after Hurricane Floyd in '99. (I also believe I still have my "I survived Hurricane Floyd" t-shirt  )

Otherwise I think it would be entirely appropriate to watch our conformation dogs make fools of their handlers while dodging cow patties and sheep poop. Instead of a big trophy, the Best In Show winner gets first dibs on the best piles to roll in. [OK, so maybe not  ]

It may not be doable and it is a few years till the national comes back to the midwest again, so Judi may have hunted me down well before that and killed me on your club's behalf for even thinking it out loud.

Thanks a lot for getting me in hot water, George!!! :x

LOL......
Yes, we were talking about how nice it would be.
New motto for St Louis: Gateway to the OES

My turn to fade away......
Allow me to add my thanks and appreciation to the chorus of "HURRAY FOR ST LOUIS OES CLUB"!!

Having organized events myself for years, I know what work and effort goes into something like this and I just have to say BRAVO!! It was wonderful!! It was fun, well organized and just the right "pace" to keep us busy & entertained but not too tired to enjoy ourselves.

The wigglebums were exhausted from having such a great time. It was a pleasure to meet you all and we're already looking forward to the next one.
I need to add my Big Honking Thank You to those that organized everything!!! My family had such a great time. I've got lots of pics too. It will take a bit for me to get them posted.
I want to add my thanks as well - I just got in. I chickened out and stopped in Harrisburg last night so I didn't drive straight home like I did on the way down.

Anyone who hasn't gone yet needs to start planning for next year!! And be prepared to stay an extra day or so - ST Louis is a beautiful dog friendly city.

It was great meeting everybody.
Our thanks as well. Karen used to do event planning for 2 national associations and she kept commenting on how well everything was done. HUGE KUDOS!!!! :yay:  :go: :cheer: :clappurple:

This was our first sheepie get together (we've only had Ralph 10 months) and I had a blast!!! I've wanted a sheepie all my life and there I was among 20 or more.

I also want to extend thanks to all of the rescue people. You do an amazing job. Some of the stories we heard were heartbreaking. Tell me how I can help.

Ann, Karen, and Ralph (the barker)
Just want to add my thanks to all as well. We skipped out early to visit family, but it was such a pleasure to meet you all.

STL OES Club, you guys are an amazing group. Keep up the great work!

Judi, you did a great job planning and organizing. I couldn't imagine the event any better!

Looking forward to next year!
I want to thank everyone who helped plan this event I had a WONDERFUL time and so did Guinness. The OES club of St Louis really made us feel welcome :D
A great big thank you to Judi, Val and George and whoever else was behind the scenes in organizing sheepiepalooza 2008. Our family had a great time once again. Though it is very challenging running after a toddler and minding Barkley, everyone still made the best of the trip. Thank you to everyone, including Joey (Sue's daughter) who helped entertain our toddler.
I would've loved to be able to meet and spend time talking with more people. I guess that is what an "annual" event is for. We may leave the toddler home next year and enter Barkley in events. He's got soccer down which maybe means his potential is endless.
It was so fun meeting new people and getting endless sheepie kisses.
I'm also totally in love with Wynette/Joe's rescue Rodney and wanted to take him home so badly. Someday we will add to our family with another sheepie.....
God Bless all of the people that rescue and volunteer so much time in the care of sheepies.
Doreen
We had a great time!! It was our first year to attend and we loved it!! Frank, Daphne, Daisy and my daughter Joey slept the entire way home. (3 hours)
Thanks to Judi and everyone who helped organize. I want to say a special thank you to Kristine who took some time to teach me a few things and also inspired me to sign up for agility class with Frank.

Wild elephants could not keep me away from coming next year!!!

I took so many pictures on Sunday, I need to edit my take there are just too many to post. I have some uploaded now.
Image
This is me and my girls talking about how fun Sheepiepalooza is!!
And all my tattoos were hanging out!!
Wendy....that is such a cute picture.....(I have a daughter Joey too!!!)
Yeah Val I had heard your daughter's name was Joey too. I was hoping to meet her. My focus was so off, I was too excited. I felt like a 5 yr old on candy and red bull.

Wendy, it was my pleasure. Any dog who jumps 5' + straight up in the air surely needs a job!!!

Nice to finally meet you in person!

Come to think of it, I seemed to say that a lot this past weekend :D It was fun.

Kristine
I've got more pics!! I'm not sure who this is but I love the pose

This was Daphne watching me eat a hot dog.

This is Quiggly. I thought he was about 6 months old. NOPE he is 6 yrs old. Extremely cute!!!

Kristine had Sybil (I think) on the agility course and had a little mishap. I hope she is ok

Sybil fell off!

But Kristine picked her up and put her right back on top!

And it did seem to take a little coaxing but she made it across.
Image

I couldn't keep my eyes off this guy. Bear not James. James was nice and all but ooowee his dog ruled!!
Image
And of course our trip home pic.

THOSE ARE GREAT!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing them...(how bout another Sheepiepalooza next month...We had SOOO MUCH FUN..................JUDI????? you can handle it, can't ya????)
Hey Wendy,

Thanks for posting the agility pictures.

Quigley is Harry's Dad! Isn't he cute? He and Harry were smelling each other like "I think we have met before". Harry had a half brother that was there earlier in the day and on Saturday morning at the paddle boats. His name is Dudley and Quigley is his dad too!

I didn't want to have to tell everyone on the forum but Val is senile and we just kind of deal with it.
Yeah, she's fine, Wendy. She was back to doing my dogwalk at warp speed at lunch time today with me yelling "easy! easy!", or doing 360s midway if she decides to sightsee, so I think she'll be OK. Still, I'll print your pics and bring them to class tomorrow so her instructor can see    I'm sure she'll have some choice words to say about putting a green dog on such a bouncy dog walk.

I had warned Pam, Simon's mom, about that dog walk earlier in the day and told her not to put Simon on it even though he was more advanced that most, and after Sybil and I came off the course she looked at me and essentially said: "OK, now I get why you said that..." 8O

They will come off periodically. You try to build as much confidence into them each step of the way that they can take the unplanned dismounts in stride. She's still a bit too green for that, but evidently not green enough to learn her lesson

I told Mandy about it when I got back home and she has promised to teach me a fancy move to gracefully catch the dog as she comes off. Her book, "Dogwalk Dog-Catching 101 - What Toby the OES Taught Me" should be out later this year I think...

Kristine

Next thing you know she'll be calling us old farts and worse...

I don't understand why Judi is sooo mean to me....I try really hard...I worked sooooo hard at Sheepiepalooza and she would call me and say ....DO MORE!!!!!

I am a good, kind person   ....I just thought we should get together more often....once a year is just not enough   :yay: :yay: !!!!

Kristine.....We need to join forces...against the  "evil" one.....Who else will join us?????? Who else????
My vote is to have you all drive up here to Minnesota!!!!

(Personally, I hesitate to take sides in this one..... :sidestep: )
Oh cry me a river you two. (Where is that damn violin emoticon when you need it?)

Kristine, were there no witnessess when I introduced you to my husband Saturday morning? I believe you threw down the gauntlet then with your comment!

As far as the senility reference to Val - I believe if I just show that post about Sheepiepalooza again next month to any member of her family they will be pushing me out of the way to have her committed before I can do it!

I am going to have to ask to have my room at Nationals switched to one adjoining yours with a connecting door. I already have Val rooming with me. I need to keep an eye on you two while I am there. Otherwise you will be telling stories about how you are both so mistreated. Wahhhhhh!

No - we'll just go running up to Minnesota to visit Dawn so our dogs can play her sheep's poop!!! [where's the pouting emoticon when you need it? ]

Val??? You game?

Oh, wait, I think the national is in MN. Which way is that? I spent the weekend following anyone with GPS. Maybe my brother is right and I should join the 21st century.... :lmt: The bread crumbs Dawn keeps leaving me so I can have Sybil track her back to MN keep getting blown away... :?:

Yeah, maybe that whole adjoining room thing, not such a bad idea. I'll have Dawn take the room on the other side and then Val and I should be able to make it to the events on time...

<shuffle, shuffle...>

SNORT!

I cannot possibly recall any gauntlet throwing when I met your husband. You know, being SENILE and all...:cow:

KB
LOL, yes, I do have plenty of sheep poop. Good goopy stuff too at the moment. They had been in the barn the last 2 months during their "confinement".
They just have been out in the pasture about a week on all that nice fresh, rich new grass......
We all know what different rich food does to our sheepies - well the same goes for SHEEP!
Finally getting to the computer tonight....and just unpacked today... :phew: ....

Judi, Val, Jill,Jil,James,Dawn,Erika,Joshua,Leslie,Tammy,Stacy,Steve,George,Joe,Wynette,Kristine,Linda,Julie, and countless others (soooo bad with names, my apologies).....it was an absolute pleasure to meet you and put faces with names....
Judi,Jil and Nita it was great seeing you again!!!

We had way too much fun this year (although I can't believe I overslept saturday morning...still upset over it).....

It was an all out fun weekend from start to finish. Theresa and I couldn't shut up for hours after we started driving home about all of the fun things that happened or the people we met and simply how much fun we had. It was a very relaxed and warm atmosphere and we felt very welcome.

It was a pleasure meeting the "Mafia" 8)

Hats off to the St. Louis OES Club....KUDOS to you for all of the planning and hard work. Judi and Val (and others whom have put this event together), I was genuinely tickled pink at the time we had and truly understand and appreciate how hard it is to put something like that together for everyone. You've done it flawlessly!!

I met a lot of wonderful people and made some new friends.
Thank you much for having us there, and having SheepieDreams there too!!!

The one thing all three of us agreed on was a comment I made when we left Purina Farms.... "Wow, now that was an event!"

Rescue, rally agility, cgc testing, parks, the city, party, and picnic rolled into one....The entire weekend was perfect. Thank you again!!

Michelina~
You guys are just TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!!!!

Just wanted to add my thanks to the St. Louis OES crew for a fantastic weekend. George, thank you for opening your house for us on Friday. Not a lot of people would be so kind. Though I know Judy had a LOT of help from the other members of the club, whom we thank very much, she seemed to be the "ring leader" at all the events.

We, Randy, Simon, Garfunkel, and I had a blast and it was nice seeing "old" and new faces and making new friends.

I also want to apolagize(sp) to any person or dog that Gar hit, bit or rolled.
He is just a "little" high strung.

Wyn, we should have put Simon and London side by side for a picture and see if people could tell them apart. It is amazing that they look so much alike.

As soon as I can get Randy to sit long enough, we will get our pictures posted. I think we got some good ones.

If Gar was highstrung what were London & Rodney?

I was looking through the pictures and on some of them I am not sure it is Simon or London I am looking at. :lmt:

I need to apologize to Jil and Bentley. Every time I got Lucky (alpha male) next to Bentley (alpha male) Lucky wanted to tear into him. So Jil I am so sorry - maybe when they are really old males they will laugh about it. Sorry
Woo Hoo! Someone is apologizing to Bentley! :-) :P

No worries whatsoever, Wyn. Sheepies happen. I wasn't phased a bit and Bentley doesn't even remember what you're talking about.
floofdog wrote:

Jil - I think you owe Bentley an apology for always thinking the worst about him.
Oh yeah, like no one remembers his pilfering at Culpepper's last year. And I do recall you blaming him for something this weekend! 8)

I have been told that I am not allowed to mention any bad Bentley behavior next year. He completely went above and beyond what I expected this year and I've already apologized, thank you very much. :P
Hey Jill how does your T shirt look?? Fantastic I bet. Next year I won't be so nice

It was fun to meet you and bid against you if only for a little while.

Cindy
Okay Cindy, that's bizarre, because I was going to post something about this awesome t-shirt I'm wearing today! It's got a lovely sheepie on it and makes me look oh so thin!

I'm saving up my change for next year ~ let the bidding begin!!!

You'd better start those ventriloquist lessons.

It was great meeting you too. I'm sorry you had to spend Sunday working but very nice for the rest of us and your sheepdog artwork is incredible!!!!

Kristine
Jill,

Guinness is on the streetcorner with a cup singing for donations so his momma will have money to get the shirt at the next sheepiepalooza!!! Ohhhh it makes you look thin .... Drat I should have kept bidding

Cindy
Did anyone get a video of Guinness singing? I was laughing so hard. It is hilarious.

And did anyone get a good picture of Jazzy, my former foster?

I would love to have a video of Guinness singing...I would play it all day in the hopes that my Heart and Pearl would pick it up!!!!!!!!!!!
That was the cutest thing!! He's got quite a talent!! 8)
I know this is a little late , but my husband, Winston and I wanted to thank everyone for everything they did to make SheepiePalooza so special. We had a wonderful time and it was so nice to be around people thant just loved thier sheepies as much as we do. We hope to see everyone next year - - -
Stephanie...

It was soo nice to meet you and your hubby...Winston is soooo handsome...

I saw Heart looking at him...I think she wanted to play, but she is such a little baby still....very shy...Hopefully, next year she will have more confidence to "mix it up" with the big guys....

See you next year...FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!
