Utah event-not all Sheepie, but fun

This is the second time I've organized this event. It's worth the time, as we are able to make donations to all of the rescue organizations that attend.

We do have Sheepies in the mix, so I'm hoping some of our Utah contingent will see this and attend.

Daybreak in South Jordan is puttin’ on the leash with their second annual Bark in the Park, Saturday June 7th starting at 9:00am until 3:00pm. The agility demonstrations promise to be lots of fun! There will also be training demonstrations and a police K-9 unit on hand to show off their skills.
Entertainment and games through out the day, starting with a best dressed dog contest, Frisbee catch, pet/person look-a-like, and stupid people/pet tricks. There will be prizes galore for winners of the events.

Presentations on pet care will be provided throughout the day, and will include first aid and pet evacuation during a disaster. For those that have moved in from outside of the area, the South Jordan animal services officer will be on hand to provide pet licensing services. Children will have a chance to make their own dog biscuits or draw a picture of their favorite pet.
No worries about the day being to hot for man or beast, a misting tent and dog pools will be available to keep everyone’s paws cool.

Lots of great pet items on sale and raffles to raise funds for the attending rescue organizations will round off a fun-filled day for the whole family. You may even find a new friend here, as numerous animal rescue groups will have pets available for adoption. The event is free to the public and will be held at the Daybreak Elementary Athletic Field (11600 South 4595 West). Enter Daybreak at 11400 south and Bangerter Hwy and follow the signs.

I can't commit to being there because we have overbooked ourselves in springtime projects...but we're going to try and show up with Sunny.
Wow, it's over and I'll have a little portion of my life back. :D Seemed like everything was working against our event, but on show day, the weather broke and the rescues that had enough volunteers arrived and we all enjoyed our day by the lake. The silent auction net was twice as much as last year and all that money will go back to the rescues that attended.

I'm always glad it's over, but look forward to the next one.
We recently moved to Utah and are sorry we missed it. We had to take our Sheepie, Barkley, up to Blackfoot, Idaho to get ready for shows in Idaho and Montana. We definitely plan on being there next year. Also want to make the Strut your Mutt event too. Let me know of any more playdates or events in our area. :D

I'm bummed we couldn't make it in the end. We had a family thing in the Sugarhouse area from 11-2, so we were going to try and make The Bark from 9-10:30, but things just didn't come together Saturday morning. I think Sunny is grumpy about missing it too, she's been on a toy-stealing rampage since Saturday... :x

Naw, that's just normal behavior!
I'll look forward to having a flock of Sheepies at the event next year! I'm slowly finding more Sheepies in the SLC Valley and hope to arrange a Sheepie soiree sometime in the early fall.
Just let us know when and we'll be there. I think it would be a kick in the pants to see a bunch of Sheepies running around. We could finally have our own Sheepiepalooza of the west. Wooohooo!

Wow, that sounds like a really neat event. Any chance the first aid, and pet evacuation presentations were video-taped? I would have loved to heard those two! Maybe we can try to convince the STL group to organize something like that for Sheepiepalooza.

No, we didn't video, I was lucky to get a few still photos :phew: Mooney Boxer Rescue (Pedigree Rescue Hero of the year) does the presentation. They are FEMA certified for pet disaster evacuation. They are soooo busy, it's tough to get them to show up for anything other than rescue work. But who knows, maybe we can get them to come in for a flock of Sheepies.

Several years ago I found a self study course provided by FEMA, it's great information, http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is10.asp .
Thanks! I'll check that out!
