Neighbor noise issue

I have a relatively new neighbor (since Christmas). They're very nice people. Our houses are probably 30 feet apart, so a good distance but not 'far' from each other.

They have a teenage son. He blasts movies and music. Not at bad hours of the day necessarily, but like yesterday I could hear the bass through our walls. And that's what it is. The bass gets to me. I can't hear the music or movies themselves all the time, but the bass is a constant noise in my house. I don't know if it's worse now because the weather is nicer and windows are open (not ours, theirs).

It's not loud, so it's not like I can say please turn it down b/c it'll wake the baby (when she's here). It just makes me feel like I'm living in an apartment again and can hear the neighbors through the walls...

Is this just me being old and should I just accept it? Or should I say something to his parents?

Say something to his parents because you actually have Supreme Court backing on this one. If you don't get satisfaction from them, call the cops. It falls under that "nuisance complaint".
technically, that is right but there is the neighbor thing. I also (almost) always worry about complaing to any of the neighbors because - well I do have four big dogs :) I did nail one for not picking up poop though - that hasn't been pleasant.

Well, they have 2 yappy dogs who they leave in the garage when they aren't home and bark when something walks by. And they poop in our yard (although I've never seen them, so I technically don't know it's them for sure), so I'm not worried about the dog issue. Besides, Barney's an angel  so how could anyone complain about him!
You are perfectly within you 'neighbourly rights' to complain. Changing the bass level on their TV or sound system is all they need to do.
If I was annoying my neighbours I would rather know about it, it's not a huge life changing thing to turn your bass down. The teen son needs to learn consideration at this stage too.
Yea, I'd try to nicely mention it. It's a real pain to have to worry about that kind of thing but you have every right to be comfortable in your own house.
I would go over and chat up the parents about this. Who knows, they may have been telling him this all a long and so now they can say "see now the neighbors are complaining." It is best to nip this in the bud before you start having bad feelings about your neighbor. A simple stop in and say "I am sure you don't realize that your son's bass when he plays his movies and music carry all the way into my house. Do you think he could please turn it down a few notches. Oh and welcome to the neighborhood!' I know it is hard for teenagers to believe that the world does not revolve around them. Some times they have to be reminded. lol

Good luck!
I agree with Helen, but also see if certain hours are acceptable for his practice.......hopefully you'll be away from home. Yes, it is annoying plus if you can hear it, what about him and his parents....they'll go deaf. I believe there are setups where he can practice in silence to others with earphones so only he destroys his hearing, not the rest of the family or neighborhood. I realize it's not the same.......as blasting into space.

No, it's not him playing bass...it's the bass on the tv and stereo making the noise. I'd feel better about it if he was being productive and playing an instrument! 8)
I have a similar problem when I drive my convertable...if someone has their sound in their car turned up and the bass is turned up it bounces off of my windshield and is very annoying. It sometimes hurts my ears. lol
the heck with neighbors kids, I have to get after my own..... on the plus side I win.
