VIDEOS from "Learn to Groom" Harrisburg 2008!!!

Here are the links to the video clips from "Learn to Groom" Harrisburg 2008! These are rather large .wmv files (too big for oes.org), but they're DVD quality. They're linked from my husband's website. Ron is in the process of creating smaller files (thank you Ron, because I am no good at that part!) that will remain permenantly on oes.org and will be easier to view if you have a slower internet connection. In the mean time, since I know you have all waited so patiently for these videos and can no longer take the suspense, I will post the links for your viewing pleasure... (I was having a little trouble opening these links on my PC, but my husband's they work, so let me know if you have trouble, I may have to reload them)

It took a video to bring that to light? Myself, I don't even need a mirror.
Great video's I could not pullup the on for stripping chest and shoulders, it said it did not exist, or had a wrong address, or uploaded wrong, sometjing to that effect.
How FABULOUS!!
Thanks so much to everyone who participated.
I learned a lot just from watching the videos. :D
Strewth Mandy you have an accent 8O :P
So COOL! Thank you!!!!!!!

I also couldn't watch the stripping video. :?

No, I totally knew it! It especially comes out when I teach anything because I teach for retention, not just "passing the test". So as obnoxious as I am, you remember the stuff!!

And, there is an easier way to trim front feet, especially for people new to scissors. I should tape it and post it too. I don't know why I didn't show it to you guys then.

Look who's talking uspide down girl!!
The videos were great. I want to show my groomer these videos. Especially about the butt angles. I still would like the see the stripping the neck video too. Great class!!! Ahh, the drill instructor, reminds me of dear ole' mom and weekly house cleaning!!
Great idea to make the videos, it was interesting to see some different methods. I really want to see the stripping neck/chest etc one, but it won't work for me.
WOw I forgot a lot! I can't open the stripping one either. and who added the dog barking? I swear it didn't sound that loud when we were there :)
I tried the face and head trimming (small scale, I'm afraid to take too much off) But Daisy head looks more round. So I had to go wash her dirty beard too. So does look cuter. I had no idea that was possible.
Thank you for video

Oh no!! I waited so eagerly for these but I can't get them at all

The OK button on the thing that says save file as/ open with is not lit up so I can't click it :?:
Watching the video was helpful. Thank you.
Oh hooray hooray I got them- BRILLIANT!! :D
Thank you SO much!! :yay:

Ok so..... how do I get my dog to stay still 8O

You make it look so easy- I can see this taking me a few weeks for my first go :D Poor Rufus, oh well, we gotta start somewhere haha
These clips are in Windows Media Format.

I understand that some folks with Macs (sorry!) are having trouble viewing them.

Apparently Microsofts has a "component" for viewing wmv on macs called flip4mac.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... p4mac.mspx

I know NOTHING about macs, so use this tool at your own risk! I won't be able to help you if you have a problem.
I've sent Ron an email with the new link for stripping the neck/chest so he can just replace the bad one and keep them all together. Check back later. For you mac users...I don't know what to tell you, i'm not very techy. Perhaps Ron will have a suggestion? :)

I do apologize about the barking dog....it was mostly my Onyx...(although not soley her, so I do feel a little better about that!) She is quite obnoxious and barks neurotically for attention when lots of dogs and people are around. Its actually a problem that I would love to address if anyone has suggestions (i've tried the milk carton with rocks, squirt bottle, the Cesar Milan "shhhsssh" and simple begging and peading for quiet) But yeah, it does sound alot louder in the videos.....I know there's a way to edit that kind of background noise out, but I don't have the patience for that...it took me over 2 weeks just to get these clips edited!

And Mandy, you're not that mean :) You taught us like a coach would....tough love makes people remember what NOT to do!
LOL @ grooming boot camp 8) I need a teacher like you!

Can anyone explain how to cut the undercarriage? Should I use thinning shears or normal scissors? What angle should it be?

I love these clips, they are so helpful, thank you SO much :D
Thankyou for sharing the videos - very useful :D

I second the comment on how do you keep them still
Oh, and Mandy- What do I do with his rear end, mine has a tail??!!
If it is anything like Archie, wait until he is asleep and pounce  I only get about 30 senconds this way, which is better than none when he is awake, he still is not comfortable with me going anywhere near him there!

I still have not managed a fluff free drop shoot!

What is this thing you speak of, tail?
I would be as lost with a tail as you are! Maybe we can get Tove to say what they do with tails? Maybe Lisa has gotten some tail training already?
I do know you'll want to do the same "vent" trimming as we do. There's a part in the butt trimming video where I pick up the hair in the middle, straight down from the vent and trim it off, then smooth it back down. That's one thing that will help with the puffiness and the cleanliness.

As for laying still, you just have to be the boss. My dogs have learned to lay still but they still need that reinforcement from time to time. I can't remember which of the videos its in but you can see me or maybe Dee put one of the dogs back down by placing a hand right where the head and neck meet. Anatomically, its like placing your finger on the forehead of someone laying on their back. It's minimum pressure and effort and doesn't hurt but it makes it so that unless they are crazy struggling, they can't get up.

The undercarriage can be cut with straight scissors. just follow the natural line of the topline. I'll see if I can find a picture for you.
Very helpful videos - thank you! It makes me wish Tucker had his long hair back again so I could go try some of them! Although it's probably best this way...we have an old kitchen table I'm going to set up in the basement to use as a grooming table. Since his hair is so short he'll only be up there long enough for me to do his face, head and ears (just combing/brushing/de-matting), and as it gets longer he'll gradually need more time up there, so it won't be suddenly, "Alright, Buddy, here you go. 6 hours on the table, please".

Thanks again! I found it really helpful that you were instructing other people who could ask questions and clarify, instead of just an instructional video for the camera. Great job!

Lisa's getting her tail training from Tove, too. Tove is evidently going to have to be our resident tail expert!
Excellent teaching tools!

OK I spent yesterday doing all the things on the videos :D

My Rufus now has lovely neat feet, a CUTE snout, better defined shoulders & chest and a round (ish!) head. I must have taken about 1 1/2 inches off the bottom of his ears

Not sure what to do with the hair behind his ears that comes down to make his head look a bit square, I sort of blended it.

For a first go I think he's OK, I didn't do his butt (he has a tail so not sure) or the main body of hair as he's 9 months & I want the hair to grow a bit first- I think.

Oooh my back![/quote]
This was Archie engrossed

I was so excited to see the video clips and could also hardly wait to try them out. I finally ordered nice scissors to use instead of my playschool ones. They came today. WOOOHOOO!!!

So I start to do Edgar's ears and everything is going well. I'm on top of the world with happiness about my wonderfully SHARP new scissors. Sigh.....

So here I am typing with one hand now because I took the top skin of my finger off. I didn't know that fingers would bleed so much. Talked to my honey over the phone and he suggested that clotting powder for animals. "Brilliant idea" I think!! It was like hot he** shooting through my arm. 8O Now I feel sorry for my pets the few times I used it on them.

Anyways, I think there should be warnings on these video's about nincompoops using sharp instruments. Now I am actually a little afraid to use them. Has anybody out there ever cut a dog using sharp scissors??
OWCH!

Don't get the skin graft, fingertips will probably grow back.

Just sayin'.

Your looking at her! It was Labor Day weekend. A nice long weekend a few years ago. So I decided to give all 3 dogs (I only had 3 at the time) shave downs & baths. That requires bushing then out, shaving them down, bathing them, drying them & then shaving them a second time to get that nice velveteen look. Of course some places need to be trimmed & shaped with scissors (like the feet & chin) to get all the stray hairs. I should have known that Melody would want to tell me how to trim the stray pieces off her chin by using her tongue! You guessed it! She stuck her tongue out just as I closed the blades on the scissors. Blood everywhere & when it hit her legs she licked her white front legs to try to clean the blood off! Result? even MORE blood on her legs. We couldn't get the tongue to stop bleeding so we had to take her to the emergency clinic & $185.00 later we came home with a tongue with 1 stitch in it that finally had quit bleeding! For that price you'd think they could have cleaned the blood off her legs for me! 8O

Me too. I chopped Clyde's ear once. I think I was more traumatized by it than he was. It bled like crazy so I thought I did some serious damage but it turned out not to be too bad. Scared the heck out me though and I've never done it since!
Ladies... stories like these are going to give me nightmares
HEHEHE! I could post a picture of my nasty looking finger tip. That will for sure make you have nightmares.

On a side note I was almost afraid to go to sleep last night. I was scared that I would have nightmares about the cutting my finger or cutting Edgar. Thankfully I didn't. Or at least if I did I don't remember it. :D
I nearly preformed a Neutering on my first sheepie boy

Have nicked the girls too on occassions as well as myself OUCH, good sharp scissors do need to come with a warning label

"Keep out of reach of mad sheepie owners"
I am lucky not to cut Archie yet, but one of his days he is going to kick his paw at the wrong time when I am trimming his pads.

As an aside I cut my son's ear tip off once, whilst cutting his hair!

Yes there was quite a bit the red stuff.
Morgan had a sliced tongue for a bit. wasn't as bad as Marilyn described though.
Did anyone put up smaller sized videos yet?? thanks!
I cant load them either I'm just getting a general site full of adverts :?: :?: :?:
I was looking too. Nothing yet... :lmt:
