RIP Dear Fluffy (Pomeranian)

I have posted a few times about Fluffy, my friend Tom's dog.

I found out this morning that Fluffy went to the Rainbow Bridge yesterday.
She was 17 years old.
In the past couple of year Fluffy was diagnosed with an enlarged heart, cancer and a whole slew of other things, including cataracts and deafness. But Little Fluffy just kept trucking along.

Last week Tom had someone come to the house to clean Fluffy's teeth.
Since then Fluffy had not eaten or drank. I think the woman either bruised her jaw or fractured it as she had not even opened her mouth for water.

Tom had been pouring water in her mouth and force feeding her.
When he brought her to the Vet the Vet said that there was nothing they could do. She was also in Kidney Failure. :(

So he did the right thing and let her go.

Here is a pic of Fluffy that I took last year

Tom sent out an e-mail this morning with a poem and this is what it said.
Quote:
Yesterday was and will remain the hardest and saddest day of my life as I had to put Fluffy to sleep. She had kidney failure as was in pain. The love that Fluffy gave to me for 17 years cannot and never will be overshadowed by anything in my lifetime.

For those of you with dogs, read the attached. for those who do not have dogs, understand it.

I will love and miss her dearly.

Tom

Quote:
Friends come in all different shapes and sizes,
Who cares just how they appear?
One doesn't question the why and the where,
As long as they always stay near.
A fellow's worth is not judged by his looks
Nor how much money he'll own,
But more likely by his genuine care
And the amount of concern which is shown.
No matter how independent we are,.
Nor how much we might face alone,
The day will come when we need someone's help
And a friend we can call our own.
Don't search for true friends, for they'll find you,
Even though you try hard to hide,
And even if you should try to avoid them,
They'll find you and stay by your side.
In times of stress I soon ask myself
Who my true friends really are
And I'm forced to admit, though with some regret,
There are very few who really care.
So when numbering my friends, the virtues I count
Are loyalty, sincerity and love -
Regardless of age, shape, wealth or size,
I give thanks to Heaven above.
And the friend that I treasure most dearly of all
Is quiet and shy, and quite small, her name was Fluffy.
She was the best and dearest friend of them all.

I was hoping since Tom doesn't have many friends with dogs that we could all show him and Fluffy some love and support as only dog lover's can understand what a hard thing it is to loose your dog.

Fluffy was beautiful. My last yorkie was 17 years old, that is a long time to love a dog and I can imagine what your friend Tom is feeling right now. Give him my condolences and say that time is a great healer, and it is fine to feel really sad but he gave Fluffy the greatest gift he could give her. She is out of pain now, and running at the Bridge like she did when she was a puppy. xx
Even in old age, when you know your dog has had a full and wonderful life, it is still so hard to see them go. :(

:ghug: to your friend Tom
Thanks for being a good friend to Tom.

Tom, I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved companion, Fluffy. What a beautiful little girl. Please take comfort in knowing that you gave her a long life filled with love. I think she's puppy smiling down on you now... while she would want some tears to be shed for her, she would also want to see you smile again. She'll watch over you 'til you meet again at the bridge.

Hugs to you at this very sad time~
Please tell Tom I am so sorry for the loss of his Fluffy. She was quite a beautiful little girl. You could tell from his poem and her picture she loved your friend with all her heart and he loved her with all of his. I am truly sorry.
Please tell Tom that I am sad for the loss of his precious Fluffy. My thoughts are with him.

Tom,
I'm so sorry for your loss! And, equally as sorry for your friends that have missed out on the special, unconditional love that our babies offer.

Their companionship, loyalty and love is such a great loss when they're taken from us. But, the memories and the love they leave behind is indescribable!

Seventeen years! WOW! My oldest was just a few weeks shy of her 15th birthday.

I made the choice to breed her parents, so it was because of that choice that she entered this world. I watched her birth, and held her in my hands as soon as mommy had a chance to clean and inspect her.

I was forced to make another choice in the end, one that was almost unbearable. I held her in my arms for the final time and watched her exit my life.

How do you explain those feelings? You can't. I'm sorry your friends don't understand your loss, but it is they that suffer the greatest loss of never experiencing the love and joy before the pain.

Rest in peace Fluffy. Tom, you'll find comfort in your memories, but it will take time. God bless.
Please tell Tom I'm very sorry for his loss
Tom,

It's so very hard to lose such a faithful companion. We are sorry for your loss and wish you peace.

Tom, I'm so sorry about your girl :(. It takes lots of love to let them go when your heart is breaking :ghug:
Poor girl. She had a nice, long life though. I know your friend will miss her a lot. Having a friend with you that long, it's like losing a piece of you.
Please don't blame the lady who did the tooth cleaning unless one has proof. Just the action of opening her mouth could have been painful if Fluffy had arthritis in the jaw. Plus the cleaning may have left her mouth extremely sore.

Kidney failure is often linked with poor dental health, the bacteria gets into the blood stream and seems to beeline it to the kidneys. Could be Fluffy was already in kidney distress before the cleaning but the stress of the cleaning, knocking loose the plaque and tartar, was enough to tip her over. When my older guys got dental work always by the vet, they were put on antibiotics before hand........come to think of it, so are some of my older upright friends. (I assume they are not going to their vet though)

No matter. Tom has lost a long time companion. Seventeen years is a long time with a dog and I'm sure each moment was treasured. My condolences to Tom.

Some people are so kind, only dog lovers know.
Ya know it amazes me that there really are people left in this world that care. Unreal.
thanks..............................

You are right, Susan. Tom decided to try this lady because the Vet said he would not put her under for a cleaning because it would probably kill her. She was in poor shape before this.
Such a beautiful dog. To live that long it had to be loved.
My condolences.
