TLC Pet Food

Is anyone familiar with TLC pet food? We have a new puppy and our breeder has strongly recommended this food however he hasn't had a firm stool in over a week. She gave us some pills for him to take to ease his nervous stomach coming into a new home but still it's awful. Our Vet is totally against the food and suggested Purina Pro Plan for large breed puppies so we are making the switch to see if this helps.

The people at TLC says wonderful things about their food (obviously) and the breeders dogs are beautiful however it doesn't seem to be agreeing with our dog. We have been told by a few people to try Pro Plan.

Any comments?

We have tried the TLC food and had the exact same results as you. Diarrhea. On the advice of the sales rep we stayed on the food for over a month and at the very best had really mushy stools.

We have now been feeding Purina Pro Plan Large Breed puppy and adult food for 4 years and have had great results. My dogs are show dogs and the coat is great....and no more mushy stools or diarrhea.

I should add one more thing. Was the pup on TLC at the breeders and just now starting the diarrhea since being home with you? If so you may want to bring a stool sample in to make sure your pup does not have parasites that are causing the diarrhea (eg coccidia)
Thanks so much for your help. Our puppy was on TLC dog food the entire time with the breeder (we took it home at 13 weeks) and have since had mushy stools. We had him to the vet last week for his last needle and brought a stool sample in with us and all was good. We have now switched him over to the Pro Plan and are hoping for good results. It sounds like you had great results so I am hoping we are just as lucky.

Thanks again for your reply, it puts my mind a little more at ease.

Check and make sure the vet checked for parasites as well as worms. surprisingly some don't.
Thanks, I am going to take him back to the vet and make sure they check for everything in his stool again as it's still runny................. I just feel badly for the poor guy.
Hi,
I have 2 dogs that I am just switching from TLC because their stools are too runny. I had both of mine checked by the vet and they were fine. I have friends that have their dogs on it as well and are switching. I have labradors, so it sounds like this food just isn't great overall.
We have been using TLC for over 4 years and the dogs love it. We often get compliments about their coats. I know that many breeders around Ontario have been using it for years as I have bought several dogs from different breeders and they all recommend TLC. I wouldn't trade the free home delivery for anything as I hate going to the stores. I haven't found any food that has everything that this one does. I have had zero luck with Purina products over the years. I would endorse TLC for anyone.
We have used TLC dog food for many years and LOVE it! We have a standard poodle and a golden - both dogs have amazing coats, and are in excellent health. The secret to our success is TLC Whole Life Natural dog food and daily walks.

I agree with Lablover - the free home delivery service is a perfect fit for our busy schedules. Give me quality and convenience any day.

I wouldn't consider Purina because they are a very large company that sells food to the grocery stores and Wal-Mart. I'd rather buy from someone who specializes in premium food.
We have had Archie on Purina Pro Plan Puppy food since getting him

Most of the time it can be fine but you can also suffer loose moments, normally down to over exercise or him not immediately taking to the increase in amount when we have increased.

Maybe you are suffering a similar effect with the TLC.

At the end of the day you'll find a food that suits, when it does don't mess about changing because we as humans think they may like a change.

Purina does specialize in premium food. They have an entire range of foods that cover a wide price range & a wide varieity of ingredient combinations. If you ever have a chance to visit their facility & see the lab work that goes into creating their food & how they test it please do. I feed Purina Pro Plan Lamb & Rice & Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach. Both of these are NOT available in a grocery store or discount store & need to be purchased at a pet specialty store. I have been very satisfied with their foods for decades.
I think its important to note that alot of sheepdogs simply have really sensitive stomachs. Tonks and Luna are just now, at almost 11 months old, getting regularly firm stools. I found eliminating most treats help; but that was tough while we were doing treat based training.
I was on Royal Canin and switched to T.L.C. Beet Pulp is a carb filler and Labs and Goldens are usually allergic to it and get hot spots from it. T.L.C. does not have Beet Pulp. Try and find a dog food that does not have beet pulp .... most do. Since I switched, my Golden has not had a hot spot. It is human grade meat with Glucosamine and Chondroitin for joints... ... (which only the Large Breed Puppy has on Royal Canin) It has Omega 3 and 6 . I would never feed anything else.
we also has a breeder that used and recommended TLC and we have had good luck. Most stools are firm or reasonable. The only time he had soft stools was when he got into the cat food or the baby's left overs...
We have been feeding our Golden Doodle TLC pet food for a year now. We have had no issues.
My large breed puppy has had soft stools for 2weeks until vet gave him meds? He is on Whole Life puppy food from breeder and I am told the guarantee will be null and void if I don't keep him on it? The ingredients look awesome and it gets 4.5 stars on consumer dog food sites? I looked at the top 100 recalls of dog food and it is not on there? I hope this stools stay stiff after the meds?
I am a miniature Schnauzer breeder. I have been looking into the TLC dog food. I have been on Pro Plan vet recommended and have been completely satisfied but I do like to stay educated on what's out there. Here is my complaint. If you have a breeder that offers a guarantee on their puppy and tells you that your guarantee is void if you don't use the food that they have chosen, then you should probably not buy from that breeder. I could however understand if they offered an additional guarantee if you used there dog food. TLC is a breeder based dog food and the breeders do get a kick back of everything that is sold. So this is why they attach this to their guarantee. TLC does look to be a good food and it does not matter where you buy your dog food from someone is making money. So it's not a bad thing to put money in the little mans pocket. This program is a great way for breeders to be able to feed their breeding crew a high quality dog food at a lower cost so this I don't have a problem with. It's breeders that abuse a good thing and manipulate people that I can't stand. Your breeder should only recommend a dog food for your new puppy.
I have an 11 week old puppy and brought her home at 8 weeks. She was on TLC w breeder when I brought her home so I am giving her the same food. She tested negative for parasites. Her poop is complete diahrrea or very soft stool at best. She goes every hour and the poor puppy sometimes soils at night even though I take her out every hour and a half. I am complet exhausted and take her out constantly which is part of pupp y training but soft mushy diahrrea stool does not seem right. I am going to make a switch to royal canine. I already spoke w my vet at week 8 and I have endured enough to try an alternative food to see if it helps.
Our 1 year old has had diarrhea every day. We changed from Canidae to Wellness about a bag ago... Maybe a little better.

No grain in either
We found that Jameswellbeloved, turkey+rice was the only kibble that hasn't upset our oes's tums. Until tried Burns- that seems ok also but not as good as jameswellbeloved. xx
This week I switched my puppies over to TLC and ever since they have had toxic smelling gas and very bad diarrhea. I’m putting them back on their old food and they seem to be back to normal. The ingredients in TLC seem good as far as I can tell So I’m not sure what the issue is

I don't know what the issue is, but when switching food it should be done gradually if at all possible, first mix in a little of the new food and a little less of the old give it a.day then a little more new and a little less old, another day then 50/50 and so on.

Good luck ❤️ :hearts: :hearts:
Read all the reports for TLC puppy food and diarrhea and it’s the same with my puppy. Took him to the vet and changed to prescription can food and it immediately stopped and then went back to TLC and immediately diarrhea again. Took him off completely and now give him science diet puppy food. No problems. Talked to the manager at PetSmart and they said company’s like TLC market thur breeders and you have to buy it online. They use breeders to market their food and the breeders get paid or get their food with a large discount. It’s crap. Don’t feed your dog TLC. Go to science diet or Royal Canin. Two of the best.
