Lamb as Rich as Duck?

Hi! Steve needs to go out the store tonight for more dog food. Foz has been on Eagle Pack Duck and Oatmeal and his gas has been HORRIBLE and he has soft poops! Will the Lamb variety be equally as rich? We're trying this for allergies and can't switch him back to chicken. The allergy options are duck, lamb or salmon/anchovy. I'm concerned that his breath will reek from the salmon. Your thoughts soon, thanks!

I found lamb products too rich for my dogs, but every dog is different. Mine did really well on salmon, but, you'll want to get some green cookies for their breath.

Hey!! What is this prejudice against salmon??? Like stinky farts are any better in the olfactory department!!  :P

Of course, they usually don't kiss you with their, oh, never mind...

Okay, so we got Wellness brand Whitefish and sweet potato. We'll see how that goes. Although, my gas doesn't smell so sweet after them potatoes :D
Go with the Salmon one, it is not bad and if something Foz has not had before then hopefully no reactions. Duck can be quite fatty so hence the sloppy ones and gas.

If all else fails, look to a dry kibble that has NOT got too many ingredients in it, Eukanuba had one from memory just made from Fish and Potato and take them right back to basics not too many ingredients in the kibble. Then you can start adding one thing at a time and see if there is any triggers later on and then you know what to avoid with him in food.

Proplan has Turkey and Barley, Barley is wonderfull it cools the blood and that is a good one too for allergic dogs.

Best wishes stacy it is a hard one to find out what his triggers are and what to avoid. We did with Kelsey when she was young, the vet took her off the kibble she was on and took her right back to basics. Months of a Fish and Potato formula then we started to introduce different things in her meals one at a time to find what her trigger was, turned out it was beef. Long process but have him on something that does not involve lots of ingredients, something he has not had before also, like fish, so you get an idea over time what to avoid.
and don't forget wheat and other grains can also cause allergic reactions
i have derby on the salmon and sweet pototo for his skin and have no problems with the smell and it is really helping his itchys
We purchased Wellness brand whitefish and sweet potato which I believe also has the barley. The salmon of the brand he's been eating (Eagle Pack) also has primary ingredients of anchovies. We thought it was too many new primary ingredients so we decided on the whitefish variety.

Annie got new food too as the venison we've been giving her is giving her too many farts. Annie probably likes all these food changes. The changes are really only made to prevent Foz from eating her tasty poop. Annie has always been so easy...her stomach tolerates almost anything. It's the difficult Foz man.

I'm so sad today. I've noticed some lesions on Fozzie and just thought it was due to a horrible "fill-in" groomer who gave him major razor burn. I think the burns are gone (it was 4 wks ago), but he has these lesions behind his hind legs and next to his privates. I've put a call into the vet who deals more with the difficult issues. Maybe there is a stronger antihistamine or shampoo for him. My allergies have been HORRIBLE and I notice Foz is bad at the same time so I know a lot of it is environmental.
Poor Foz. Barney and I know exactly what you're going through  The food du jour that we're trying for his allergies is Canidae Venison and Sweet Potato. But Barney has a stomach of steel so he's been fine with it. Aside from farting when he sits down, I haven't noticed an ill effect with him. I'm just afraid that the food isn't helping his itchies
I could not feed my 3 salmon, the gas could clear a whole room out :!: So I switched to VanPattons fish and sweet potato, no gas :D
