I thought I'd share this rather hilarious story with you guys.
A few years ago my brother in law whom worked for a famous hotel chain mentioned that the hotel frequently sells their furniture if it hasn't been used in some time. I needed a bed. He then told me there was a bed available - it had been specifically purchased for Queen Elizabeth on one of her visits to the city. Now protocol requires the Queen to sleep in a brand new bed and hense this bed was bought for that purpose. After her visit the bed was stored. Now back to the story. ...
I bought the Queen's bed which apon delivery I was shocked to find it was a Kingsize bed!! Now who woulda thought that her bed would be King Size! From day one I disliked this very heavy bed as it took three people just to move the thing and made my room look so small. I was always complaining about this stupid bed.
Recently, I have done a lot of home renovations, laying down laminate flooring, washing, spackling and painting walls, installing a new sink..then finally on to my bedroom. If I paint the walls a very light color It should make the room appear larger, I thought. Still cursing this massive bed so as to move it away from the wall it was no secret to anyone whom would listen.
I arrive home one day to find a message on my answering machine," Marianne, we're coming over Sat to get the bed". Whazzat? I wasn't trying to get rid of it, wonder what my sister meant by that? We had discussed a computer table I no longer needed but not my bed. Ah well I'll call her later and ask her about her message. At this point I should mention my sister suffered a brain injury a few years ago and often has memory lapses much to her dismay. She gets quite sensitive when her husband or son comment on her memory which she feels is fine.
I listen to the next message. "Marianne, we're coming on Friday instead to get the bed." Whazzat? Today is Friday!!! Oh I have to call her right away!
Next message" Marianne, Marianne ...are you there?" Kevin can't do it later it's now 1 o'clock and he and Darrell are on the way to get the bed".
I should mention I arrive home from work at 3 pm daily.
Next message."Marianne? I hope you're home cause they've left, I think I still have your house key."
At this point I get a horrible feeling in my stomache and race into my room..eeks!!! The bed is gone!!!
Now I have to phone and say "Where's my bed" and "don't you think if I got rid of my bed, I'd have another one to replace it?'
Now my sister insisted I did indeed say she could take it and how I always hated it (the latter part is true.) Hmm now this is a delicate situation as now I don't want to make a big deal out of it as her husband and son are not going to be happy that they moved this humongous bed. So the next month the phone calls go back and forth, while I slept on the couch!
The people at work are chuckling at this rather funny story, afterall it's not everyday you come home and find your bed gone. In the month of it's absence I realize how much I really did like this bed. I can't deny it's a pain to move but wow the size is fantastic..I mean 6 sheepies can sleep on it comfortably!!
To make a long story short , I finally got my bed back, refusing an offer from my sister that she would buy me another one..a nicer size..Queen even! Nope much to the grumbling of her husband and son (whom stand at 6'6 and 6'4) and a friend they have to carry the darn thing back to my bedroom on the upper floor.
Slept in it last night!!! Boy I sure missed my beautiful, wonderful bed!! Ha Ha!! Funny how you don't miss something until it's gone!
Hope this story made you guys chuckle like it did me. The nice thing is I hope to get rid of these bags under my eyes now!!!
I bet your furry buddies missed it more than you!!!
|Marianne...your family sounds as crazy as mine! Thanks for making me laugh till I cried.
