Freaky Frankie

I had Frank neutered about a month ago. He flew through the procedure with zero complications. I couldn't see any signs of discomfort at all after I brought him home.

About 2 weeks ago I noticed Daisy is in heat. No problem, Frank is fixed!!!

Ok maybe a problem....Frankie and Daisy were locked this morning!!!!!

Of course I called the vet and they assured me Dasiy could not get pregnant.

PLEASE reassure me again that she is not able to get preggers by a neuterd dog.

I was under the assumption that Frank's junk wouldn't even work anymore. How did he do this? I know his boys are gone!!! So what is making him think he is a stud?

Takes some time for the hormones in his system to neutralize out. So the will remains and apparently enough to allow penetration and the tie.

Let's hope that's not the case with any stray sperm left in a tube somewhere 8O

Now I wonder if she'll have a false pregnancy? Oh life is fun.
Ummmm, if he was neutered he shouldn't have any "noogies", thus no sperm, thus no puppies. Instinct makes them hump, gotta love horomones!
I hadn't even thought of false pregnancy!!!! 8O I'm screaming on the inside!! What happens if it is a false pregnancy? What then? Will Dasiy be ok?
False pregnancy.......she'll act like she's pregnant, gaining weight, nesting, maybe even labor contractions, (but obviously no puppies) even producing milk. Hey, you could hire her out as a nurse maid if that happens.........she really could nurse a litter.

I am NOT saying she will have a false pregnancy.........just keep this in the back of your mind if she is a little wacky these next few weeks to 2 months.

Is her thyroid OK. Bitches with hypothyroid tend to be the ones who go through a false pregnancy.

Actually in nature it helps the pack of another female does have a false pregnancy, helps feed the babies!

Bitches who just develop false pregnancies (without the amorous gelded one as in your case) often repeat false pregnancies over and over with each new cycle.

So we are hoping your girl is normal, good thyroid and she's be no worse for wear after her early morning quickie.
I haven't had Daisy's thyroid checked. But at this point she seems very healthy.

Although this morning, before the dirty deed, and yesterday morning she peed on the floor right in front of the door. It was like she couldn't hold it anymore. We have a routine that seems to work usually.

She never has accidents anymore. I thought maybe urinary tract infection. If she does it again I will make an appointment for her, just to be safe.

Thanks for the input. Oh and if she does produce milk, I insist all puppies come on over to the out of town Daisy buffet!!!
I would think . . . NOT since it's been a month. However, when I grew up we had our male neutered and apparently there were still some swimming because our sweet little BG gave birth to a litter . . . 8O However, I would think a month is probably fine.

Sorry. I know this isn't funny to you.

I once housesat for some friends for a month when I was still in college. I took care of their dogs and horses etc. They had three lovely english setters bitches, all related, all intact, all really nice hunting dogs - husband was an avid hunter. And one adopted Chow mix. Neutered. He'd been neutered for years.

The youngest setter came into season and to make a long story short I walked in to find her and the chow mix in a tie, back to back. Not knowing what a tie WAS, called my mother in a panic: "how am I going to get these two dogs loaded into the car to get them to the vet????? (I told you I had NO clue     )

Once she stopped laughing....she set me straight.

Moral of the story: he may do this for years, hormones or no, and as long as your vet says the swimmers are all gone, you're fine, but do keep an eye out for a UTI ect. I don't think that's normal, but if she's behaving differently, well, you know your dog.

There's nothing to suggest she'll have a false prgnancy just because they did the hokey-pokey. She might have one just to scare you to death - sheepdog bitches have a rather wicked sense of humor.

Seriously. Mad had a couple of false pregnancies at roughly age 2 1/2 and then again on her next heat at 3. No boy dogs involved, just her hormones being whacky. It can be genetic. (Dams that have false pregnancies are more likely to have daughters who have false pregnancies. But neither her dam, nor, so far - we'll see - her daughters ever had one - not sure about her sire's dam come to think of it, I should ask) No milk production, no weight gain, no big deal really - she was a little moody, she did nest and then gave "birth" to a few stuffies. Once her maternal instinct abated - we're talking days here 8O - she returned to her previous avocation as stuffie terminator, which led me to have a nice little chat with her breeder about whether or not we should ever risk breeding her

We did breed her when she was 3 1/2 and miraculously, the false pregnancies have not returned. Nor did she mistake her children for stuffies, so that was good.

I just had her thyroid re-checked last month, she's 5 1/2 now, and it's still OFA normal.

Try not to assume the worst. 8)

Wow, I didn't know that dogs were prone to pseudocyesis. The things you learn on this forum.

If she's in heat, all of her girl parts are swollen, could just be extra pressure on the bladder or a similar sensation.
