My Leo (cat) is starting his journey to the bridge

We have 2 cats. Khobi, the Siamese (and a real pain in the tush) and Leo, a lovely, sweet gentleman of a cat.

They are both around 15 years olds.

I'm so sad and heartbroken to report that my little Leo has started his journey to the bridge. He is just old and winding down. He is not sick. His previously fat body is now just bones (you can't even feel muscle) and his eyes are tired. He doesn't leave the basement. He lays either on my dest, or under it. He seems confused about eating and drinking, and for the first time ever, has no desire for his beloved catnip.

He's not in any pain, so we are letting him stay home and make his passage on his own terms. We don't want him with needles and cold tile around him for his last earthly stop.

I'm so sad. Its very hard to say goodbye to a lovie that grew up with your children. If I ever call you, you see "Leo Cramer" on your caller ID. That's him. We've used his name as our listing for the last 14 years.

Please say a little prayer that his passage is smooth and peaceful and for his sake, quick. I know he will be met by so many of my lovies that have gone before.

He's just a sweet little grey and white guy, who has touch my family deeply.

:( I'm so sorry to hear this, Deb. :( I hope his passage is swift and peaceful.
I am so sorry. Leo sounds like a wonderful little guy. I hope his passing is peaceful. :ghug:
This is Leo, with his good buddy, Pirate (about 3 years ago)

What a beautiful boy Leo is. I am sorry to hear that his journey is ending. I can see that he has been much loved. Please give him a gentle hug from us and purr purr from Pearl who is 13 and so not much younger then Leo.

Peace,
My heart goes out to you in this heart wrenching choice. Wish I could give you a hug in person and Leo a pat. I'm going through the same thing with Ole Blue, and some days I'm accepting that his body is tired and old as you probably have with Leo. We wish they will live forever but they will in our hearts and minds.

I'm praying Leo's passage is smooth and peaceful. He obviously had many happy years which he shared with you. No cat could ask for a happier life.

Leo, all my kitties here are sending you well wishes on your upcoming journey and I'm sending my thoughts to your family.

Marianne
Deb - best wishes with your Leo. He sounds like such a nice cat.

I just love that you used his name for your phone listing. :D What made you think of that???
My heart goes out to you. I hope sweet Leo has a very peaceful passing.
I'm so sorry that Leo isn't doing well... letting them go is the hardest part.... :ghug:

I was a single mom for many years. I didn't want to list a woman's name in the phone book, and the phone company wanted to charge me $7 to have an unlisted number. The woman at the phone company, told me, to avoid the charge I could use any name. Leo Cramer sounded like a nice man's name to me, so that's what I did.

Over the years, Leo has received much mail, many job offers, credit cards, and even an AARP card (which we keep on the fridge).

He's had a rich life!
:ghug: We are thinking of Leo, and praying for a painless journey to the bridge :ghug:
It sounds like Leo has the heart of a lion. Give him an extra rub from me tonight, please.

I was wondering if it was something like that. :D Very cool idea. That way people you know would know the "code".

Love the AARP card -

What special memories your family has intertwined with Leo.
Oh, I'm so sorry. Even though he's had a long and happy life, it's never easy. I lost my childhood cat about 2 years ago. Give Leo a little pet for me.
I'm sorry to hear about Leo. This is Leo Lapinski in the witness protection program, right? I think it's very sweet and thoughtful of you to let Leo pass on his own.
Hugs to you and Leo during this tough journey.
Wishing you both peace and reflections on a life well lived.
Yes, it is Leo Lapinski aka Leo Cramer (new name while in protection). When the kids were small, they used to make up stories about Leo. He once was an opera singer in Italy, got mixed up with the mob, and had to go into witness protection. That's when he came to live with us...according to the children.

When I went home at lunch, he was still laying under desk. Hadn't moved all morning. He meowed, Hello, to me. I opened a can of cat food and left it for him.

Before I left I went back down, and he had licked up the juice, but didn't eat. I couldn't find him at first, but then found him in a dark closet where the sump pump is.

It's tearing me apart. But I'm determined as long as he's not in pain, to let him do it his way.

Maybe one day, we'll write a book about his adventures.
It is so hard. I went through this last summer with my boy Simon. He was the first cat I had on my own when I moved into an apartment. He was 17 last summer when he passed away. He wasn't in pain either, but age had gotten to him and the morning we had finally decided he'd had enough, we found him already gone to sleep. I was grateful that we didn't have to make the decision for him after all. He was a prince and I loved him.
This is so sad, for you and Leo. I pray that the end will come soon for Leo. Hopefully he will just fall asleep. He does sound like he is almost at the Bridge...hugs for you and your family.
Deb,
I know this is so hard. But it sounds as if Leo has lived a wonderful life and you have a lot of wonderful memories that include him.
Please give him a kiss from me.
Deb, I am so sorry to hear about Leo and my thoughts & prayers are with you guys.

I know how heart breaking it is to know that they are on their way to RB. Our cat Ebony wasn't in pain but one day just started not eatting, didn't look right, didn't really move at all. Knew she wasn't in pain but we let her just go at home also. She was 16 years old and it's almost been a year.
Deb..just catching up.

im sorry to hear about leo. may his journey to heaven be as fun and adventurous as his journey here on earth....

give the ki-ki a kiss from me!
Update on Leo. He is still pretty much in the same condition, although, last night he meowed quite a bit. I'm getting concerned this isn't as painfree as we thought.

Today he came up the stairs for awhile, and it totally wiped him out. I carried him back down after letting him stay up there for awhile.

He's barely eating or drinking. Not really interested in either.

We are starting to think, he may need help crossing over. We leave on our trip Saturday, and don't want to leave him to pass with a housesitter.

We'll take this week one day at a time, and watch him for signals.
 Sorry you are going through this. Perhaps, and I know it isnt my business, it might be kinder to have the vet come to your house. My last yorkie I wanted to leave to die by herself but in the end I looked into her eyes and I knew what she was asking me to do. Sorry, I dont mean to interfere.
Hugs to you and yours xx
Sue, please don't apologize. I didn't know vets would do housecalls. I think that would be ideal.

I will call and ask if ours would do that. That is a very comforting idea.

Thank you.
:ghug:
My last yorkie had been asleep on and off for most of her last few days. I carried her out the garden for a wee about 6.30 on 7 July 2004. She weed and then looked at me I carried her back in. Sat her on her chair and then she vomited.. nothing really. I looked at her little face and rang the vets at 6.50, wrapped her in a blanket and took her straight round there. The vet was so kind she didn't mess her about, I had to come out of the room but she was so far gone hubby stayed with her and he said he was stroking her head and she went so quickly as she was weak. We were back home by 7.10 pm. we brought her home with us. Why do I remember such morbid details. Sorry Deb...
He cried all night. He actually come up on our bed, laid with us awhile, left and spent the rest of the night meowing.

He's so weak.

As I type this, Tony has taken Leo to the Vet to help him cross over. I just couldn't go. I spent most of my lunch hour cuddling him.

Tony will bring him home and we will bury him in our yard with some catnip.

I'm so heartbroken. Bye bye, Leo. Rest well.
:ghug:
Ah, Deb, I'm so sorry
I'm so sorry Deb
So sorry to hear about Leo. What a beautiful cat :(
I'm very sorry Deb :(
I think this tough choice you made will help
Leo find his way to the bridge a little easier.

:ghug:

My Snowflake and Cat will be at the bridge
to greet him and will celebrate his arrival.
So sorry Deb...Leo is at peace now and he is as he was when he was a kitten. Happy memories will come back.... not yet, but soon I promise. xx
Honey, I'm so sorry to hear about Leo. Bless Tony for doing this by himself. I hope your heart stops hurting soon.
Deb, I'm very sorry about Leo.

:ghug: to you!!
Deb, I am so sorry for you. We all know how hard this is and how much this hurts. We are here for you to lean on.....my thought are with you.
Deb,

It's so apparent that Leo was dearly loved by you and Tony. I'm so sorry for your loss. Leo was an aged boy and had a wonderful life, logically you knew that, emotionally it's much harder to say goodbye. He was indeed a lucky cat to have lived with you.

I had to smile when I read you are burying him with catnip as even in his passing over you, are thinking of him. I wish I could find the right words to say as I truly understand your grief.

May Leo be running free at the Bridge.

Marianne
I'm sorry about the loss of Leo. Having lost our own senior cat this past February there is still an empty hole without him here. My heart aches with you, these little critters truly touch our lives.
I am so sorry for your loss, Deb. :ghug:
Aw, Deb, I'm so sorry for your loss of Leo. It is always so hard when we lose one of our furbabies. Leo's now pain-free, running at the bridge with all our other cats and dogs, having a grand old time, just waiting until he sees you and Tony again. I hope your heart stops hurting soon.
I am so sorry about Leo. Please know we are thinking about you at this time, and wishing your heart well. There will be an extra star in the sky, shining upon you from now on.
I am so sorry to hear of Leo's passing. He had a great life with you.

Extra hugs for you, Tony and the fur family. :ghug:

Laurie and Oscar
Deb, I'm sorry I'm late posting my condolances. I have been hitting the forum sporadically between work stuff and missed the post. I know you miss him terribly. I'm sorry for your loss. :(
