We're getting our first Old English Sheepdog puppy in August

We are getting our first OES puppy in August and are very excited. We didn't go through the OESCA, and the breeder isn't a member, but she answered all the questions right. All her dogs are OFA certified, and she is sending copies of the certificates, and all that business. While I NORMALLY would throw a stink, and just say no, it seems to me that she may as well be a member. I could go through everything she said, but at this point, that is not what this post is about. Anyway, I also live in *Omaha*, and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have some sort of OES get together when we bring him home!!! How awesome would that be?!?! OOOOHHH I can't wait until August!!!

Just me being protective but you probably want to nix the get together for a while. Remember that you'll want to protect your pup's immune system until the vet says he/she is immunized by the puppy shots you'll have done. This means be very careful who you expose your puppy to and not taking him/her for walks in public for a while. You want to be certain he/she doesn't contract deadly and expensive to treat Parvo... affected poo can be simply tracked in on shoes too. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... icleid=467

Ask your breeder and vet to share preventative info with you.
Congrats on your upcoming puppy! I will also be bringing home an OES pup in August for the first time and I am super excited. I was wondering what the best puppy food is though, any suggestions!?

I thought the EXACT same thing. My 2 pups are now 6 months old, so it wasn't that long ago that we were doing vaccinations and staying away from the park.

I would recommend enrolling your puppy in a puppy class. Almost any reputable trainer will ask for the papers to prove that all participants are up to date on thier vaccinations. Plus its a great way to keep your puppy well socilalized. Otherwise from week 8 when you get your pup to week 18 or 20 (depending on the vet) you have to isolate your pup to insure that they do not come in contact with something like Parvo.
Ahh yes, I am aware of all of the precautions to be taken with a new puppy. I have sang them from the high heavens for years :)

I am also getting my new pup in August. Where is yours coming from, mine is coming from a woman in Florida. Would be something if we are getting it from the same lady. We will have to share pics. You getting a boy or girl...boy here
I am getting mine from a woman in Kansas. It was the closest breeder that I liked. There were a couple closer, but I could tell that they didn't care about their dogs at all. It's a shame. Anywho, the woman I am getting Sprocket (its just a working name) from LOVES her dogs, and I really liked her. So yeah. The only reason that we are waiting so long, is because we are moving on the 17th of May, and going on a week long trip to Texas in July, so I don't want to put a puppy through that at such a young age.
Congrats to all who are getting new puppies soon !! My wife and I lost our last OES 9 weeks ago and will be picking up our next pup in July from a breeder in Toledo. We can't wait.

If you've never owned an OES before, you're in for one heck of a ride. They're wonderful animals!
Congratulation on the the puppy ! :)
