Help! Moved to a new city and now my dog wet in the house!

My job has recently taken me to Chicago. I went back to Ohio this past wekend and brought my 2 friends, Chauncey and Dottie, back to their new home. My problem is that for the first time ever, Dottie wet in the house. I let them out in the yard, much smaller than they are used to, and walked them both but neither one of them relieved themselves. I figure it is probably just getting used to a new home. They were both crate trained when I first got them so should I go through that process again. I feel so bad for them because they are very confused and lost. Help or suggestions please. Thanks!

This is pretty typical behavior for a dog that's been uprooted or had major changes in their lives. When we take in a rescue dog, they usually potty in the house at least once before they learn the routine and we learn the dog's.

Two of our adopters had problems with their dogs while doing major remodeling in their homes. One reverted back to puppyhood and soiled the floor repeatedly and chewed the bedroom furniture. Crating him until the work was done got him back on the right track. The other dog snapped at the workers at the home when the owner was not there. She's not sure if they did something to initiate the confrontation but sending him to doggy day care is helping resolve this.

I would suggest trying the crate until things calm down and your dog understands that this is his new home. Not only will the crate keep accidents from happening in the house, your dog will more than likely feel more secure in the crate. Think of how your dogs must feel, a strange new place so different from before. It will just take some time to settle in.
When we moved last fall Barney peed in the house (and he NEVER pees in the house) when we took him for a tour of the new house right when we were moving in. I think he was just overstimulated. He hasn't done it since.
Thanks for your replies. I know they have to be very upset. I feel so bad having to uproot them and bring them here, but my only other choice was to find new homes for them and I couldn't think of doing that. I am going to pick up some crates today and I,m sure that will help with that problem, plus like one of you said it can be their security blanket.
Time will probably fix everything on its own. Like the others said, urinating in a new place is really common behavior. They'll be fine and happy in no time-- the most important part is that they got to stay with you!
Being a publican we moved around a bit..
Since we got ollie we have moved 3 times, and every time we've moved the 1st day ollie would poo in a room, only the once, then no more after that,
Bizzare, but hey we love them and their ermm house warming gifts :D :D
The night we brought our Maggie home (she was a 2-1/2 yr. old) she immediately went to Winston's bed and squatted in it. Never had another "accident" after that.

Think there was some sort of subliminal message there....
