1...2...3...sheepies

I've been meaning to post a thread about how many sheepies each owner(s) have or dogs. But specifically those who chose to get a 2nd OES.

We have two sheepies, we got our second one last August because prior to then I would browse through all the owners here who had two dogs and I have to admit I was jealous! So we actually by chance found our 2nd dog on a listing, we were not searching but if we came across one we would have considered it. Aside from me personally wanting 2 dogs we thought it would be a good idea for our first dog Koda to have a friend :)

Long story short...they are the best of friends!! Two complete personalities that match!

I would like to know for those of you who have 2...3...or 4 sheepies what made you decide to get the same breed. I LOVE old english sheepdogs...I think they are the cutest, loving dogs...no offence to the other breeds but I am truly in love with this breed. If I had the property, time, and money I would have 20 of them in the yard!

Also, I seem to get a feeling that everyone that has an OES loves them just as much as I love my boys. Sometimes I feel silly about talking about my dogs ALL THE TIME! I take pride and care for them like humans...it's kinda weird, but I can't help it!

I only have Chewie, but have 6 other dogs. Chewie is our 3rd one - each seperately.

Sad to say, I will need to wait until after some of my old dogs pass to the bridge before any more come. I am in no hurry to have that happen, so I will be waiting a while, I hope!

Plus, I foster for basset rescue, so we are busy here. :D

I truly love dogs, I wish I had the space to foster them - we live in the city and limited on space :( I need to find a way to post my photos of the dogs :)

The left one in my avatar is Chewie - the other 2 are his sister Martha, and uncle (sort of) Clay. Martha and Clay actually belong to my daughter. But, they live nearby and they all get together often. :D

Yeah, the butt shot is funny....

I took the front shot first, then decided the back view would be crazy too.
I have three, and often there's a foster floating about...

I can't imagine that we'd ever be without one or more in our life.
We currently have two sisters; they had the same sire and two different dams:
Tonks and Luna

But growing, we had four OES in the house at one point. We had a Dam and three of her puppies. I'll see what I have in terms of photos and upload so i can post when they get approved.
We have four dogs - the two sheepies are mine. Hubby has two dogs - an Irish Setter and a Newfoundland.

I am looking forward to getting another sheepie - just need to tell my husband....
I have 2 sheepies....one rescue and one suricruzlike...

and of course Cosmo, my Beardie BYB rescue......

I currently have 3 OES. My first OES passed away 2 years ago, just short of his 14th birthday. We originally chose an OES because we were looking for an excellent family dog--and we got one. So excellent that eventually, when Merlin was 7, we added Archie.

After Merlin passed away, we got Sherman and Sophie, littermates who just turned 2 years old. Archie is now almost 9 years old.

I love my OES but I am also the sort of person who enjoys variety and so I would be happy to try a different breed of dog. My husband, on the other hand, is not interested in having any other breed. Ever. Not sure how that one will be resolved, but we won't be crossing that bridge for some years to come.

My husband grew up with Scotties and his parents still have one. I grew up with a variety of hunting dogs, but for my childhood, most were beagles.

Advantages to 3 OES: well, there are 3 of them! A lot of fun.

Disadvantages: Also, a lot of work, a lot of food, a lot of attention when we are out and about. A lot of grooming. It is hard to adequately pet 3 dogs simultaneously, somethng that my crew press me to do better with on a daily basis.
i am the new proud owner of 3 as of yesterday

I agree with the disadvantages!! and understand!! Alot of work and maintenance, food, time to train, and attention! The puddles left from when they drink water...ahhhh...it's my life!! But as mentioned on a previous note...As, much as I have to clean up water, dirty paws, brush out mattes, and clean up the yard...I wouldn't have it any other way...I can't imagine my life without either one of them!

It's so funny that OES truly have the same traits...sleeping, laying, how the paws tuck in when they lay down!! it's so cute!

that and those big black noses... I always think of sheepdogs when I see those noses!

Here are those photos I promised; they are from the mid 1970's:

thats my younger sister standing up; I'm to the right with the pigtails.

I received our Ben as a Christmas present. Before long, it was painfully apparant that the other two dogs. who were older, would not play with him.

I adopted Fozzy at eight months old from NEOESR. He was a pogo stick, but he and Ben really hit it off and they are good chums.

Now, I do foster work for NEOESR. I currently have the two sheepies and a sheltie with the occasional foster coming and going.
Darth Snuggle - the picture of you and your sister and the sheepies is great!
I actually had pigtails just like that too!!! We were stylin' !!! 8)
Allison, that picture is adorable!

We have two sheepies, Annie and Foz :D

Thanks for sharing!! My fiance' grew up w/ OES, he got our first dog Koda for me as a christmas gift in 2005...ever since then I'm hooked!! I would love to get another breed but I just can't pass up an OES!

That photo is precious!! You must know the breed really welll!
I also grew up with a Sheepie
This was my Daisy with my sister, my Dad and mine and my sister's hamsters.
Image

It took me 20 years to get my very own Sheepie.
I found Pepsi in the local shelter... definitely meant to be! 8)
We rescued Rags a year later.

Can you tell they are best of friend?
Image
OMG!!! I love the hamster on Daisy's head!!! :D

Isn't it funny how many of us had a sheepie as a child, and grew up needing to have our own? I too waited over 20 years to get my own dogs, knowing that there was no other breed for me.

And everyday I watch my boyfriend Adam slip a little more to the Dark Side.... of Sheepie Love!

I was away at sleepaway camp for a month and missing my Daisy and my Daddy. I requested a picture of Dad and Daisy and Whiskey aka J.D., my Hamster. I was very disappointed to see my sister and her crazy Hamster, also named Daisy (How original! ) in the pic.

Me and my sister did not get along too well. As a matter of fact we still don't get along very well.

I am going to my parent's house tomorrow and plan on scanning some more pics of Daisy. Mom and Dad recently got a scanner and I will be at their house tomorrow. She was the best big sister ever!! Dad had her in full coat up until my sister was born. She was so beautiful. Too much to do after my sister was born, so Daisy got the puppy cut from then on out. Which she seemed to enjoy. :D
I still miss her very much.

I have 2 younger sisters; only Rachel and I are in the photos with the Sheepdogs. I don't know that I didn't get along with my youngest sister, or if we just never connected. But I hear where you are coming from!

Elsa (the Mom Sheepie) died of cancer when I was maybe a little older than those photos. Molly, one of her pups, was given to a friend in our town (or sold perhaps?) and we kept Mopsey. Mopsey was so dear to us all; the sweetest soul there ever was! I have her to thank for my love of the breed...!
We have 3 Murphy, Bella, & Elliott, and I am on the prowl for another pupper for show :D
When my kids are/have been off to college or living far away, they never, ever talk about missing parents or siblings. Missing the dogs, well, that's certainly something I hear about. And then they complain that I like the dogs better than I do them. I explain that the dogs are cheaper, more obedient, less demanding, more affectionate, and smell better. What's not to love???
Am I the only one that noticed that the dog on the left is dropping a deuce in this picture?

Image
I love seeing all these pics! My husband grew up with an OES, Nicki who died at 13 years old....I grew up with Labs, but was open to the OES experience, so glad I did it :P

Tgir, do you keep yours in full coat all the time? Beautiful pups!

Darth snuggles, awesome pics! I sure wish my in-laws had nice pics of the 3 boys with Nicki. They were also in the late 60's, early 70's...will you also keep Tonks & luna in full coat?

Living in Atlanta, I had originally thought we'd keep them in short coats for 2/3 of the year. But I am reading alot of information that suggests that their coats help to insulate in both Winter and Summer. So I'm unsure right now as to what we will do. As it gets warmer, I'm going to try and gage the girls response to the temperature increase, and go from there. If our air conditioning was more reliable, I'd say we'd keep them in long coats. But our home is pretty old, and once it gets to a certain temperature, theres just no cooling it off.....
