There will be a vidio comming from our grooming weekend in harrisburg See thread whoo wants to groom or what did you leard We had excellent teachers who have show OES
I cannot wait to see that video that is a great idea!
Did we do video of the show grooming stuff? I don't think Sara taped that. If someone else did, I was unaware and we need to make sure they got my good side!

Susan, what are your questions about the head? Teasing, trimming, product?

Yay!! I didn't know it was video taped!! :clappurple:
PLEASE let me know when the video is available and how much it is?
I have a question about...I'm not even sure what it is....

I started conformation class with Daisy last week.

The instructor started pulling her hair out (quick pulls) he said all that needed to go. It was like he was plucking feathers from her. What was he doing and am I supposed to pull my babies hair out? How do I really get that hair out?

Another question..I noticed the day after class that Daisy had gone into heat.
I didn't take her this week. Am I doing the right thing by not taking her to class while she is in heat?

Hopefully your instructor was only pulling the hair out in the neck & chest areas. You can do it by hand, but most show people use tools to pull the undercoat out. I only usually do the hand pulls if I see that there is not something laying flat. It would be best if you can have someone mentor you about styling the OES coat for show.

You have to use your discretion whether or not to bring her to class in heat. I've only had boy dogs in handling class, and it's quite a distraction when there is a bitch in season. Some teachers don't care because it's going to happen in the ring anyhow and you have to learn how to deal with it. I would say try to avoid attending class when she's at the prime breeding time in the cycle... 8)

[color=red]Let's see what I can do to confuse the situation - she does need to be thinned out (using a dematting tool) around the shoulders and the chest, but not plucked like a terrier

I always check with the instructors, but I also always take my girl when she is in heat. Other dogs need to be trained to behave properly around a female in heat as well.

He did pluck only around her head and neck.
I'm sure she needs the be thinned out in that area but I am afraid to take too much off or out. What tool is used? I have combs, brushes and a matt rake.

I think I will take her next week and see how it goes with her being in heat. I noticed her spotting the day after class, so she must have been giving off her scent during class (all boy dog class) and everybody was doing what they were supposed to do.

By the way, Daisy seemed to KNOW just what to do in class. I still need practice.

I thought of something else.
Daisy's beard is aweful. It is constantly wet and of course very stained.
1st question: Will her beard ever be dry?
2nd question: Will I ever be able to get the stains out?
You need to dry it whenever she drinks and you can wash it more often than the rest of her. some dogs have dirtier beards than others though naturally.
HHHmmm wash it AND dry it. I was hoping I could wish it clean and dry. DRATS!! OK I'm in.
I did learn the baby powder/corn starch tip. It really seems to help getting matts out.

One more thing, I've been looking for a show lead. Maddog (Kristine) happened to find someone very near me who sold them on ebay.
My husband went to a the address listed only 2 blocks from my house.

My husband said the guy looked like he was from the movie Deliverance and had a vicious Corgi that he couldn't control, and on top of that he cussed my husband out!!!
So I need to know a brand or style of lead so I can order one online.

Thanks for all the help.
