We start conformation classes Tuesday and I don't know where to find a lead and collar for Daisy. I can't find them in any pet store around here.
thanks in advance.

Is this anywhere near you?

Felz-Own Pet Supplies

409 E. Nebraska Ave.

Peoria, IL. 61603

He sells on e-bay, http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V ... innut20021 but lists an address and e-mail address so maybe he can help you on short notice.

Otherwise you'd either need to go to a show and check out the vendors or order online, and since you're starting Tuesday, that might be tough (very cool, by the way :D )

Ask Mandy et al what type of lead to use.

Kristine
Kristine, I can't believ this. He is right down the street!!!!
I went to check out the class last week and found out the first dog show coming up is the same weekend as sheepiepalooza. I don't know which to choose. I may have to cancel sheepiepalooza.

Unless you have someone to trim her up for you and show you how to put her up, you'd be better off coming to St Louis. Granted, I can't recall who will be there who knows all of this stuff except Nita. (Nita - do you trim that boy yourself? He always looks good).

Your best bet would have been to trek east to Mandy's seminar...Failing that, I can find out where Sunny is entered and see if it is near you. She'd help you. I'm not permitted to own scissors, my stripping skills are consistently sub-par and I can't tease hair to save my life  , or else I'd be happy to help. My "specialty" is gaiting a dog. Maybe between a bunch of us we'd have enough expertise to at least get you started on the right track.

This breed is darn hard to present well - you need all the help you can get or you'll find yourself constant point fodder and that's no fun.

Unless you already have help? In which case, then, yeah, it's going to be a tough call. Which show is it?

Kristine
No I have no help at this point. I was only considering the show as an observer this first time. I agree, I need help with grooming and cutting, stripping ( I don't even know what that is) and....everything.
I have seen Nelson so I understand what you mean about Nita knowing what she is doing with scissors. I have attempted to trim the back. I only took a little off. She was so puffy back there.

I'm not sure of the name of the show it is in Bloomington, Il.

I don't know Sunny, but I would all the expertise I can get. Fast!!!!

Sunny is Lucali on the forum. I don't know if she's going to Bloomington but I can find out.

Going as an observer is smart, but not worth missing sheepiepalooza for. Plus not every show has an OES entry, though that one might.

The first guaranteed OES show within a decent drive is probably the Chicagoland OES Specialty:

The Lake County Fairgrounds
50 S Route 45
Grayslake, IL
Saturday June 14, 2008

Specialties are a great place to observe because you are (almost) guaranteed a good entry and lots of experienced exhibitors to watch. I doubt Mace's coat will be in shape by then, but Sunny will most likely be entered and I'll probably be there with or w/o dogs. That's just one option - I'm sure there will be others.

If you decide to come, let me - or somebody - know ahead of time so we can be on lookout for you. Otherwise people are so busy and focused and it tends to seem pretty intimidating. Just something to think about.

Oh, and that goes for people in the Chicagoland area in general. You won't get turned away if your name isn't Wendy

I'll be at Sheepiepalooza, too. I know just enough to be dangerous, lol. Learning to groom for a show is a slow process best described hands on. I can tell you, "this need more teasing or that needs to be shorter and the shawl needs to be thinner or the hock needs more angle," but don't ask me to actually do it! The more people that you can get around you, the better.
I would really hate to miss sheeiepalooza, so I (we) will be there.

I will plan on coming to the specialty show June 14th also.

I have so much to learn!! And I want to learn it NOW!! By the way I've been reading a couple of the books you've recommended. I definatley see dogs different than I did before the reading.

I find myself watching their gait, I never really noticed before. I guess I took it for granted like I do with the car. It runs and I know what color it is.
Don't even think about missing Sheepiepalooza for a dog show!!!

By then, Jill and I should both know enough to be extremely dangerous and can give you some grooming help after the daily festivities. (I have some "killer" shears, BTW)

I know of someone closer to your home who may be willing to help but I can't make any promises.
Our local KC show is the same weekend as Sheepiepalooza as well. We skipped it last year, and it was a great choice. We don't have high enough OES entries anyway, so we would have entered rally and obedience. BUT, rally and obedience trials are easy enough to find, but Sheepiepalooza is a once a year event!

Seeing you are just getting started with entering events, the learning experiences will be much better in St Louis. :D There will be people who have experience with pretty much anything you have questions about there.
I will be at Sheepiepalooza!!!!! I can't make it until Saturday, my son graduates on Friday night. I am so excited!!
Okay my plans have changed and I may be able to go to Sheepipalooza. Any hotel recommendations?

I finished one of the books and started on the other. I tend to be a book hopper and can have several going at once depending on my mood, so right now I'm spending more time with Jane Savoie's "That Winning Feeling" (thanks, Sunny! :D ) which is also excellent, but a totally different topic. I know what you mean though, when you get really focused on something, you want to work on it NOW!

We'll pull together a selection of volunteer OES for you to go over at Sheepiepalooza so you can get your hands on some dogs and see if you can feel and see what you've been reading about. After I read the first book I told Nancy I thought I KNEW movement - it's about the only thing in my environment I'm not oblivious to   But, yes, this really makes you look at things differently and break it down in your mind what is contributing to what. Fascinating.

Did you find a show lead?
